I love the Gillnetter. It's a consistant, easy-going place to hang out and enjoy a pint. There are very limited choices for places like this in my neighbourhood, so I gladly travel to PoCo for the Gillnetter. My favourite aspect of this bar is the boat dock, as it makes for a fantastic day to float up the river, grab lunch, and head home. Prices here are decent, as you can get a good pint for under 5$, and the half-priced appies on weekdays provide great value. Service can be slow, but it is always pleasant.

I headed to Black Frog a while back with some friends for a pint. There were about 8 of us, two of us were driving. It was 4:30 in the afternoon, and it certainly wasn't busy. I had two beers, but had to drive all the way back home, and refused more when they were offered. Each time I turned down a drink, the waitress simply rolled her eyes and walked away. When business started to pick up with the afterwork crowd, the waitress announced into space that anyone without a drink or food would have to go elsewhere to "hang out". She told me that I had to leave, very rudely, and I replied that, "I was the DD...what did she want me to do, have my buddies drive home drunk?" She said that I would have to buy a coke or something in order to stay because I was taking up valuable space. So let me get this straight.... I have to leave, but my friends can stay because they're leaving. At this point, we all collected our bills and left. We didn't put a cent down for tip, because, being forced to leave, we felt no obligation to do so.
I guess you can't head here unless you're willing to drive drunk!
