I recently submitted a review about a horrible experience that we had here a few months back. We filled out the online experience form with a request not to be contacted and the manager sent us a gift card and asked us to please return again. Well we did and we were really happy with our experience. We both had ribs and they were delicious. Our server was excellent and there was only one obnoxious birthday party there that we actually didn't mind because we weren't already put off by crap service. Our server was actually excellent and we will be back there again when we get an appetite for ribs. Well done!
I started coming here just after this place opened in 2006 and it's been a favorite ever since. They have a very good selection of gelato (laughed when I read the review that claimed that they didn't - 20+ options not enough? Really?) and other deserts. I am a pretty picky eater and the only time that I was disappointed here was with the creme brûlée because it was not hard on top. Other than that, this place makes delicious deserts and drinks.
The service is what it is; counter service. Everyone is friendly and efficient and they don't mind waiting for you to decide between the various options. And even though this place tends to be very busy, it is also kept very clean.
The atmosphere is good and is definitely geared towards either a fun evening out with friends or a nice après movie stop. Their prices are a bit high and to be honest I can understand why. This area has a lot of students who like to order the cheapest items and then take up a table for hours to use wifi. High prices tend to deter this.
To be completely frank here, I do not understand the slew of bad reviews. And given how busy it usually is here, I'd guess that a lot of other people like this place too.
We tired this place on a whim one night when we had planned on going to India Bistro downtown Vancouver but didn't want to make the drive. What a great evening!
As we walked inside, we were greeted by an older Indian man in a suit and a fedora. He was thrilled to see us and we were sat right away even though the place was pretty busy. The servers don't seem to have specific tables and they all look after every table they walk past. Their service was very friendly and it was nice to go to such a welcoming place.
Soon after being seated, another older man began playing a guitar in the corner and singing old jazz songs. He was really good! And the servers had fun stopping to sing with him too - very cute.
The food is incredible. We had a chicken appetizer to start that was delicious and then we had butter chicken and chicken korma with rice, naan and roti. The portions were very good sized and so we stopped before getting too full so that we could have desert too. They have traditional Indian items and also a really great cheesecake that was surprisingly low priced. We left with enough food for another meal and definitely planned on coming back.
We went back the next weekend and they actually remembered us! We were greeted by Sir Fedora again, had excellent service again, enjoyed great music again and had another delicious meal.
We used to swear that India Bistro was the absolute best but this place is just as good, closer to home for us, has free parking and has exceptional service. If you are looking for Indian and like jazz then this is the place for you. The only thing that I would change about this place is the lighting as candles or dimmer lights would make this place absolutely perfect but that's just me being picky. I love this place!
I have been ordering from this place for years and used to love it. The food was great and of a good value and the service was good too. My last experience was so terrible that I actually created an account here just so that I could tell you about the terrible service.
I always place my order online and then they call to confirm everything so my address is not a secret. They even charge me a little extra becasue I am beyond the 10km delivery radius. This has never been an issue in the past.
We orderd from here a few weeks ago and the food was not as good as it had been before. We were a bit perplexed and a little put out becasue we had been telling the friends who were over for dinner that this was the greatest place ever. They told us about a place that they order from and we confidently said that this was the "best" Chinese food they would find here. It wasn't great and we were left eating our words (with our not great food).
We decided that maybe that had just been an off night and so we ordered from tehm again this last weekend. After we had confirmed the order, they called us back to remind us that extra charges would apply because we were a little farther out and we agreed.
The delivery guy told us to "never order form them again" becasue we were too far for him to drive when he arrived ahead of schedule. We explained that we had been customers for years and he said that was impossible becasue he had never delivered to us before. He said again that we should never order from them again and left.
I called the manager to see if there was a problem with our order and he said that we were farther and had been charged for the additiona distance. I asked why we had not been told that we couldn't order and he just kept saying that it would cost us more money.
Considering the fact that their food isn't as good as it used to be and now we have rude delivery drivers on top of it, I don't think we'll be ordering from this place again.
