2+ Hours of my life I will never get back
Submitted Thursday, January 15, 2009 - 4:28am [Dine in]

An ex-friend took me here for dinner. Never again! The teenage server was
sloooooowww and didn't seem to take his job seriously. Also, it took what seemed like about at least half an hour for our food to come. I had wings. They were not hot. Wings should not take more than a few minutes to cook.
At other places, even pubs, I've gotten wings under 15 minutes. And we were 2 of only about six customers.

At least there's some random stuff to look at on the wall.

The management needs to overhaul the place quick. Re-train the servers or hire new ones. There's lots of eager people out there.

Do Not Eat The Chinese Food Here
Submitted Sunday, September 14, 2008 - 9:57pm [Dine in]

I got food poisoning the next day, and let me tell you, it wasn't fun. I should have known better, but the prices were alluring. There seems to be a bit of a cleanliness issue, now that I think about it, although on the upside a lot of different choices are available in donuts.

Just go to a place specializing in each, not both.

Will not be returning.

Good Delivery
Submitted Sunday, September 14, 2008 - 9:36pm [Dine in]

Had Chicken Tikka Masala, Mutter Paneer, Roti, Pappadums, Raita, and some others. Main items recieved nice and hot temperature wise, mild taste as asked for.

Roti was good for dipping, as were the pappadums.

Everything ordered was recieved, pleasant lady on the phone,
pleasant delivery driver.

Don't order during the busy dinner rush unless you want to wait.
We had to wait about an hour.

Overall, will order again.

Good Food, So-So Service

On the upside, food is good, chicken morsels could be better sized in butter chicken. Downside: forgot a few items in my delivery order, although we were still charged for them! Only a couple bucks here and there, but still.
Called back about it, got passed around.
Please check your order at the door before the driver leaves!

Closest Indian restaurant that delivers to our area, but patience is
wearing thin.

Another one a bit further, but feel bad about amount of gas used to deliver...

I had a grilled cheese sandwich with fries and my friend had the
teriyaki chicken special. For the price, just fine. Good hangover, long trip refueling food. Place looks like it hasn't been renovated for ages, but is surprisingly well preserved. Attentive, casual, friendly waitress got our drinks refilled without asking which is super and the kitchen looks very clean. The regulars look like they may have been going there since the late 50's and know the waitress by name...

Good change from tourist track
Submitted Wednesday, June 25, 2008 - 3:11am [Dine in]

We took the bus out to Fujiya from downtown Victoria and it's definitely worth it. There are many different varieties of sushi as well as snack food, meats, candies, beverages, and even Japanese video rentals.
We picked up a few boxes of sushi to take back to the motel we were staying at, and they were still fine by the time we got there. We also had leftovers for the next day. The quality of the sushi may not be up to par with the best of Japanese restaurants, but it's good take out quality and definitely nice to your wallet.

Daidoco - Overrated
Submitted Wednesday, June 25, 2008 - 3:02am [Dine in]

I went to Daidoco expecting something tasty. We just got salty and sour. The place is tiny, and was packed with customers, mainly European and American tourists. The service is fine with a smile. The menu is perplexing because there is only a few choices. The portion sizes are on the small side, even for the donburi. The sushi rice is overly sour and too firm, like it had been left in the fridge too long. All the dishes should have a more light taste. We should have gone to Fujiya. (Which we did, the next day, and the sushi rice is done right there.)

No they aren't Japanese
Submitted Friday, May 9, 2008 - 4:03pm [Dine in]

The owners are Korean. They do speak Japanese though. Must have lived in Japan. Not the greatest Japanese restaurant I've been to, but not the worst, either. I always order sunomono salad at every Japanese restaurant I go to to check the vinegar and sugar balance. Too sour here, definitely not Japanese.

Service, just ok. Pay first policy. Sushi, just ok.

Better restaurants in the Metrotown part of Burnaby for sushi.

The good old Hing

I've been eating here for years with my family, dine in or take out or delivery. The ownership changed a couple years back, but I'm pretty sure the food improved. I usually get the Mabo Dofu (Spicy tofu with ground pork and some veg), the deep fried wontons with sweet and sour sauce, Buddha's Feast vegetables, and a chow mein dish. Sometimes I'll get hot and sour soup or chicken corn soup. Yummy!

If you want to eat solid Chinese food, this is the place.

I ordered pizza one night from Bella Pizza because I've heard good things. I guess I got unlucky.
Thought the sauce on my pizza tasted strange, really weird herbal flavours. Don't understand the fuss about this place. Have had way better pizza from Panago, Roundhouse, Me And Ed's, Nat's New York, etc.

Will not re-order as the last pizza I ordered from there was weird tasting.

I like this location over the one on Kingsway. Used to go here after work many times and they remember my face. Friendly service, decent food, and interesting people watching. They have one section of the restaurant which appears to be only for the older gents.

I don't get how some people feel they've gotten bad food or service. Sometimes it's a matter of what attitude you give to them.

I've never once gotten bad food or service at either location, so I must be lucky.

Not memorable. Decor my mother would probably enjoy, but not some youngster like myself. Bland middle of the road food only someone who hasn't been exposed to ethnic food would enjoy.

The Knight & Day across the street has much better ambiance, cool people watching, decent Canadianized Greek food and decent prices.

Death by Chocolate is dying
Submitted Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 8:11pm [Dine in]

Went there to meet some friends. One showed, and we were treated to a most apathetic, pissy, unfriendly time. Same old Eastern European lady other reviewers mentioned. Dessert menu pathetic... 90% of the stuff was unavailable, and what we ordered didn't come as shown. It was missing the lady finger cookies and in their place some stale mini ice cream cones. The chocolate dip was beige and runny instead of dark and thick...

The coffee was terrible.

The owners should really fire her, she doesn't care about the business... And if you are the manager/owner, you really need to start caring or the place will be gone in a few months at this rate.

My favorite slice of pizza here is the Tomato Onion Salad. I also like the Fifth Avenue. Last visit got a few cans of Aranciata to top off my order. Service is alright. Big slices!
Prefer the guys at the Denman location.

Went here with some friends on a Saturday night. Get here quickly, it fills up pretty fast. Fairly quick service, pretty solid food. I recommend the Japanese style calamari, beef tongue and pork cheek. Only issue, dessert was slow to arrive. Fairly awesome place to go, and loud. Recommended.
