Our Town Is My Town!

I love this place! Ever since moving into this neighbourhood I have been thrilled to find it. Incredible coffee, great baked goods, free wi-fi, and kid friendly.

I am a coffee connoisseur, to start with, and this place not only has amazing coffee but they really know their stuff. I had a long talk with the owner, who times his shots according to the depth of flavour delivered by the roast -which he is always upgrading for his client's ever evolving palate. This guy loves his coffee!

I love that they make pretty much every thing in house, and have an super-yummy vegan pumpkin muffin. The kamut scone is also really good, and they make their own panini. And if you've never had a vegan nanaimo bar made of avocado, now's your chance!

Aside from the coffee, though, is the fact that this place is something really special. It's not your typical franchised Bean Around The World, or a big gun like Blenz - it's not even just a typical family owned joint. This place is named after the play/musical Our Town, written in 1937, though it actually reminds me of a scene from It's A Wonderful Life. If you take the time to look around, you'll see that the fixtures - from the ceiling fans to the lamps - are built to resemble the time. The bentwood chairs and stuffed arm chairs are right out of that era. Familiar old time Hollywood celebs smile at you from the wall above (ok, some of them were way after '37, but they are classics). Our Town hosts music nights, and I heard rumor that a musical theater night was on its way.

This place is a gem!
