Never fails to please
Submitted Monday, June 29, 2009 - 11:19am [Dine in]

I have been to Harambe about 5-6 times now and have never once been disappointed. I usually go with at least one other person and we always have either the vegetarian platter or the chef's selection platter, which has both meat and vegetarian food on it.

The injeera is soft and spongy and always good, especially the bits that have soaked up the meat and vegetables on the platter. My partner and I enjoy taking small pieces of the injeera, stuffing them with meat and vegetable and feeding them to each other - a very different experience and very fun!

The variety of curries and vegetables they serve are always a great mix - spicy, not spicy, lentils, beef, chicken - I really enjoy the variety and different tastes.

We will continue to come back to Harambe as the food is always good, the service is always good and the experience is great!

Absolutely Amazing!
Submitted Tuesday, June 9, 2009 - 10:06am [Dine in]

I went to Grub for the second time last night and once again, I was very pleased with everything about this place!

We were seated promptly and our server bought us water and offered a drink. As the rest of our party hadn't yet arrived, we declined the drink and perused the fresh sheet and menu. Pretty much everything on the menu sounded wonderful but luckily we were able to narrow it down to two things as I have a gluten intolerance and couldn't have two of the other options we were thinking about.

Once my friends arrived, the server was back to offer us a drink, we ordered a bottle of the St Hallet Semillon Sauvignon Blanc. It was lovely and crisp and cold - perfect for a warm night.

We started by sharing the Pescitarian share plate and the Seafood salad. These servings were both very generously sized. The seafood was fresh and tasty and I loved the mix of the seafood with spinach and strawberries in the salad.

Next up, my partner and I shared the chicken breast stuffed with sundried tomatoes, served over mushroom risotto with rocket and asparagus. The chicken was perfectly cooked, the outside skin crispy and delicious and the inside tender and flavourful. The risotto was perfectly cooked and included some nice big chunks of mushroom. The rocket added the perfect peppery flavour to the dish. The asparagus was grilled to perfection and complimented the entire dish wonderfully.

We also shared the Tuna, which was coated in a green curry sauce and served with shrimp cakes, butternut squash and asparagus. The curry sauce was a little strong and spicy but partnered with some of the squash, proved a wonderful combination of tastes and textures. My favourite part of this dish was the shrimp cakes. They were wonderfully textured and tasted very much like Thai fish cakes. The squash was served with some sort of reduction, I think it might have been coconut milk based, and they paired very well together too.

Stilton Creme for dessert once again. This time it was also served with poached sour cherries. And once again, I was not disappointed. The creaminess of the stilton creme, with the cherries, figs and pears is just the most wonderful combination.

I found the service to be very good, casual but not pretentious which fit in very well with the entire ambience of the restaurant.

We will definitely be back again and again and again......

What a pleasant surprise
Submitted Friday, June 5, 2009 - 11:27am [Dine in]

We came here on Wednesday for a quick spot of lunch. We were very surprised by the menu which does a modern take on old favourites.

I had the blackened halibut, which came with grilled vegetables and salad. The salad, although slightly overdressed, was fresh and light. The grilled vegetables were very tasty. But the blackened halibut was outstanding. It came served with grilled peaches and the fish itself was tender and flaky with lots of delicious cajun spice.

My boyfriend had the portobello burger, which was also very tasty. It came with goats cheese and the combination of the two really worked well.

We will definitely be back here for a cheap and tasty lunchtime meal!

Go elsewhere for Dim Sum
Submitted Friday, June 5, 2009 - 11:23am [Dine in]

We decided to come here a couple of weeks ago to try some Dim Sum - we usually go to The Roc on Kingsway and decided to try somewhere new, just to mix things up. What a mistake.

The food was nothing special at all, quite boring in fact. The deep fried squid, although cooked well, had virtually no taste whatsoever. The dumplings were bland. And we paid twice as much for the same amount of food than what we would have paid at The Roc.

We will definitely be sticking to what we know.

Fresh, Tasty, Satisfying
Submitted Thursday, May 7, 2009 - 10:18am [Dine in]

We finally managed to grab a quick bite at Bandidas Taqueria last night, after wanting to eat here for quite a while now.

We started with some fresh guacamole and corn chips, the guacamole was very tasty and left us wanting more! Following this, we shared the house salad with yams and the 'Estelle' tacos. The house salad was extremely good, the ingredients were so fresh and healthy tasting, the addition of the yam added almost a caramelized taste to the dish. The tacos tasted wonderful, with just the right combination of toppings - the pineapple being a great addition to the dish!

The staff were very friendly and courteous, and the bill set us back $32 including tip and two non-alcoholic drinks. I would definitely recommend this place for a cheap, healthy meal.

Love the Food!
Submitted Friday, February 20, 2009 - 12:23pm [Dine in]

Decided to stop in here after an early movie on a Saturday night so we were seated immediately. We were given a complimentary bowl of soup to start which was very welcoming. When asked about the number of dishes to order for two people, our very friendly server happily took the time to outline what the best selections would be, two or three from the top part of the menu and two or three from the bottom. We decided on two and two.
We started with the blue cheese salad which had the most wonderful, creamy blue cheese in it. Following this came the crab cakes, wonderfully crisp on the outside and served with gorgeous accompaniments. The portobello mushroom was also divine. Finally, we had the duck which was wonderful and I love duck and eat it often so even I was impressed.

Along with the food, they have a great selection of wines and the port was fabulous! I will definitely be coming back here and recommending it to all of my friends!

Don't bother
Submitted Friday, February 20, 2009 - 12:16pm [Dine in]

Stopped in here for lunch while enjoying the sunshine down in Kits. They had a patio so we decided to sit outside but that was probably the only decent thing about the place.

I ordered a chicken burger and my friend had a green salad. We waited and waited, probably about half an hour and then really started to get annoyed after the table next to us (who had arrived quite a bit after we did) received their four plates of brunch before we did. We spoke to the server about this and she didn't seem to be at all concerned which lost her a tip.

When the food finally arrived the dishes were both pretty ordinary.

I wouldn't bother coming to this palce, poor service, plain food and given the multitude of other great places on 4th Ave, this would be the absolutely last place on my list to go to in the future.

Argo is a Little Gem!
Submitted Friday, February 20, 2009 - 12:10pm [Dine in]

My boyfriend and I came here for lunch yesterday, arrived early as the other reviews on this site said it was always busy. We got there at 12 PM on the dot and got the last table available but people came and went quite rapidly while I was there and I don't think you would have to wait long for a table.

We received a small, complimentary bowl of Lentil Soup which was lovely and fresh and very tasty. My boyfriend ordered the Fish and Chips and I had Lamb Shank with Mashed Potato and Vegetables. Our meals arrived very quickly and they were large servings - three pieces of fish and lots of chips with a side of slaw and a large lamb shank with plenty of mash and freshly steamed vegetables.

My boyfriend said the fish was really tasty and perfectly cooked while my lamb shank was divine! The meat was so tender, falling of the bone in fact, the gravy was rich and not too heavy; the mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious and the vegetables were perfectly cooked - not too crunchy and not too soft! For $9.75 for the lamb, you cannot go wrong! I was totally impressed with Argo Cafe and will definitely be back here in the very near future!

Give it try!
Submitted Thursday, February 28, 2008 - 4:47pm [Dine in]

My girlfriend and I have been to this restaurant a number of times and we have been happy with the food every time. Large servings, packed full of flavour, really nothing to complain about! Although it is a Szechuan restaurant, I love their chow mein noodles, especially as we order the rice noodles. The seafood one is really delicious.

I would definitely recommend giving it a try!
