A Lovely Evening
Submitted Sunday, December 5, 2010 - 10:03am [Dine in]

What a surprise! I had little or no expectations as to how the evening would be, but I walked away pleasantly surprised and thinking about going back again. My friend and I were seated at a comfy spot right near the fire. We were greeted right away by our server and wine was on the table before we knew it. I did think the wine list could be a little more extensive for by-the-glass choices. It would be nice to see more local, BC wines featured.

For starters we shared the Pear & Frisée Salad, which they kindly separately plated for us. It was tasty. The Stuffed Mushrooms with Dungeness crab & mascarpone were fantastic. We almost licked the plate! We each had the Seafood Risotto with prawns, scallops, fresh fish and chervil. It was amazing. My friend thought this was the best risotto she had ever had, even after eating it in Italy.

The evening was finished off with the Chocolate Heaven Bar-dark chocolate ganache and house made marshmallow. It was so heavenly!

We sat there chatting and enjoying ourselves so much that when we looked at our watches it was almost 11pm! A very nice experience was had and I look forward to going back again.

Nook781 Denman St., Vancouver
a wonderful addition to the west end
Submitted Sunday, July 5, 2009 - 9:52am [Dine in]

We headed over to try Nook last Friday night and we were very pleased with this new little gem. Having heard Nook was the newest venture of Mike Jeffs, past owner of Tapastree (one of our favourites!), we were excited to try this new restaurant.

We went at around 5:30pm, knowing they open at 5pm and don't take reservations. We started off with the ricotta, grilled radicchio, pistachio and fireweed honey crostini and all I can say is "mmmmmmmmmmmmmm". We loved this started. I had the prosciutto, arugula and roasted garlic pizza. It was delicious. My husband had the gnocchi with baby meatballs, which he thought was fantastic. He only had one complaint..the portion size. He could have eaten more. Good thing I had pizza to share. To finish it off we shared this fantastic chocolate pudding dessert. A huge hit at our table.

Overall, we walked out very satisfied and excited to have a fresh, new place to eat in the neighbourhood. Can't wait to return!

Lovely Meal
Submitted Sunday, April 26, 2009 - 2:19pm [Dine in]

My husband and I went for our 1st meal at l'altro buca last night and enjoyed ourselves very much. Being huge fans of the Parkside, we were not disappointed.

We started off with a starter special of morel mushrooms stuffed with king crab. So, so delicious. We wished there were more than 2 on the plate. We were told you could order any pasta in a half order as a starter, so we opted to try the pasta special, which was venision ragu. It had such a wonderful, rich flavour. The portion was the perfect amount for a starter, especially considering it was so rich in flavour.

For our main we both had the Bistecca alla Fiorentina -Dry aged Tuscan style steak with arugula, Parmesan, crisp onions, warm vinaigrette. Let me just start off by saying the portion was HUGE. We could have shared it. The steak was tender and the 2 onion rings on the top were a treat.

For dessert we shared a flourless chocolate cake. Rich and delicious.

Overall, we enjoyed our evening very much. The service was great and the food was fantastic. We definitely look forward to going back.
