A group of 7 of us went to this restaurant Sunday evening at 6pm for hot pot! We figured it was a large enough restaurant and it was early enough in the evening to get a table without a reservation. Well, we figured wrong! The place wasn't packed (maybe less than half full), yet we were not granted a table.
First off, I (the only white person in my group) approached the host to ask about a table for 7. He ignored me, and proceeded to speak Cantonese to my friend (who didn't speak Cantonese), which I found extremely disrespectful. (I found out later, he did speak english, he just chose not to) Then there was confusion ontop of confusion... on top of... more confusion! Thanks to the language barrier!
Can we have a table? 730, you say? We can have a table at 730? no? What did you mean by 730 then? After speaking with more than three hosts (none of which wanted to speak English), it turned out that we could have a table, but only if we left by 730 because of previously booked reservations. Fair enough. But the process to arrive at that was incredible and extremely unnecessary!
Overall, the food was ok, value was average, and the speed of service was excellent (because they wanted us out asap). However, the quality of service and professionalism was awful. The place shouldn't even bother with english menus!
