Pretty decent for being in downtown

I have come here for lunch with 14 other people (work function) and it was pretty good. They seated us pretty quickly, as the place was quite empty.

I ordered the salmon burger, and it was awesome. It was not dry, but very very moist. It was not falling apart, or anything, and the salad that came with my meal had a really good dressing. Everyone enjoyed their meals, and we all had a good time.

The only drawback to this was that only half the table had received their food, while the other 7 still had to wait. I realize that a group of 14 is pretty big, but the restaurant was practically empty with only about 6 other people there for a 1:30PM lunch. We had already waited for nearly 40 minutes before half of our group received food, and had to wait even longer before the other group received theirs.

All in all, I think this place served decent food. The atmosphere is great, especially if you're into the gothic-industrial feel. I will probably return but in with less people. ha

Definitely stands out from all sushi places!

I have been to this restaurant only twice--and if I lived closer to Kitsilano, I would probably eat here regularly. This place does not get old, and there's so much to look around when you get there.

The food takes awhile, but I won't complain because whenever I've been there--it was PACKED. I've always been lucky to get there before the lineup starts, but when the food comes, it's great. I have never left there unsatisfied, or hungry. Their sushi portions, I find, are a lot bigger than if you went to Nagano's or Sui Sha Ya(sp?).

They have such a varied menu, I think for first comers--you should take a look at the menu online before going in, so you have a better idea of what you want. =)

My favorite Thursday hang out

I'm actually quite surprised from some of the lower ratings of other users for this place--but since I don't go here other than for half price appies (Thursday after 9pm), I guess I can't say much.

This place only attracts me for the fact it has half price appetizers. They recently got new menus, and they look nice--but it still seems like the same food, with some things cut out. All in all, I would recommend coming here only for Thursday evenings, and that's about it.

I've gone to Samz four times so far, and every visit gets better. I will admit my first visit was really disappointing. I had read these reviews, and so when I went--I ordered a beer with yam fries. Not a good combination--haha! The place was really nice, but the yam fries reminded me of some McCain's fries that were crimped. They weren't very good.

With the above being said, I think the place has slowly gotten better for me. I think it's a really great "lets sit down and have drinks" type of setting. The beers are pretty pricy--but if you go on the Mondays, I think you probably get the best deal. A cheap beer, with a cheap burger--is awesome, especially if you are a burger person. Add the $1.50 for cheese, and it's still a cheap burger ($3.50). You can't beat that. Also, if you want to go there for hot wings on Thursdays--its on par with the deal you would get at Mr. Mike's.

All in all, it's a great atmosphere pub, but the prices could probably be a bit lower.
