Too bad. It used to be so awesome
Submitted Monday, October 27, 2008 - 4:45pm [Dine in]

I have to agree with the comment below. This place used to be so awesome, we've been going to nevermind for years too. But about a month ago they sold the place and is no longer being operated by the crew that runs Hell's, Abigails etc...
The crappy thing about this place is that the food is still okay, the lamb burger has been my fave forever, but I will never go back. We used to go every wednesday like clockwork for the burger and beer or to watch the hockey game but since having TERRIBLE service as most of the long time staff have left -we've had to go to The Shack instead which btw is awesome.
Anyhow, the last time we went to Nevermind there was a crazy fight inside the restaurant where glasses/cups were thrown, yelling and full on fighting was happening which later was lead outside but not stopped. The worst part is that the new owner/manager didn't want to call the cops continued serving the people sitting at the table and was telling all of us to shut up or get the F out. Also, the servers were laughing at everything while it was happening and did nothing to reach the cops. It was bad.
I think that if you've been going to nevermind for a long time you'll have to agree that it's crap now; and it wasn't like it was the best place before they sold, it was just a staple in our week and that 'go to' spot because it was close and familiar.
I haven't been back and won't go back but more for principle than anything else. Too bad.

Vampire Christmas
Submitted Monday, October 27, 2008 - 4:16pm [Dine in]

We went to Sweet Revenge after having dinner for some sweets. The friends who took us there had been several times before and really loved it. We were greeted by the owner and given menus right away. I really enjoyed the novelty of the place. The matching teacups for each table were neat, and the dessert/drink menu had decent variety.
We ordered specialty coffee's and the boys ordered raspberry ales. After looking through the menu we decided to get the apple pie crumble which was lovely, a chocolate terrin tart type dessert and the raspberry creme brulee; everything was great and hit the spot.
From what we were told the place fills up in the later part of the week and is only open late night; from 7pm on or so. The decor was interesting; with rich reds and dark blacks but a cross between a room in your Grandmother's house if she were a Vampire
Overall a neat spot worth heading to after dinner treat.

Keg Steakhouse & Bar, The1499 Anderson St., Vancouver
Stick with the steaks
Submitted Monday, October 27, 2008 - 3:22pm [Dine in]

I don't have a whole lot to say about the Keg, they have a great value priced steak menu that we've been enjoying for years.
However, we went for dinner last night, everyone ordered steak or prime rib, it looked and tasted awesome but I decided to change it up a bit and try the Chicken Fajitas. They were okay, nothing had and special flavour, the chicken was plain grilled chicken, the onions/peppers tasting like they should.
I felt like everything tasted fine but once put together in the tort it didn't really come together at all, pretty bland.
If anything kids could share it - it was huge portion with 4 tortilla shells and a full breast of chicken with the fixings the flavours are "mild" enough.
My girlfriend told me to just stick with what they do best, if they're a steakhouse just stick with the steaks; next time I will.

Not worth a second try
Submitted Monday, October 27, 2008 - 3:08pm [Dine in]

A group of 8 of us dined here over the weekend expecting a big buffet with salsa dancing to follow our meal that was to start at 9pm as told by the person taking our reso early that week. When we arrived the restaurant was super dead, maybe 5 other tables total. Once seated we waited and were greeted by a manager who mentioned to us that "he's not supposed to be working tonight so that's why he's wearing jeans", we thought that was random but didn't really pay any attention to his pants.
After waiting more than 5 mins for a server to come by to take our drink order we decided to go up to the buffet.
It was the smallest buffet ever, minimal selection with a small variety of sushi, sashimi and warm dishes. The rolls were obviously pre made well in advance which made them crunchy and dry, the sahsimi was a little suspect so most of us avoided it which is a shame because we all enjoy it. For $22 a person I was super disappointed - the minimum effort that was put into preparing the dishes was not worth the money, they should be charging around 12 bucks for the dinner buffet.
The ambiance was also disappointing, we asked several people working when the room starts to fill and the dancing begins; some had no idea what we were talking about and others said they think it may be on another day. In the end we didn't stay for the show - if there was any.
Overall the room was big but oddly lit with bright spotlights in some areas and dim lights in others. The music was very sombre and quiet; 80's and 90's love ballads making it very boring and sleepy. The service was slow and the servers were uninformed and forgetfull.
Everyone agreed that the room and food were nothing special. The crab legs were cold and soggy, the rice was crispy and over cooked, the sashimi was opaque looking, the veg were good but how can you screw up steaming veggies, the gyoza's were warm on the inside and rubbery on the outside; although the short ribs were quite nice. The list goes on and on on how everything could have been good but just wasnt. Also all of us were surprised that they didn't have miso soup which was odd.
In the end we all decided that it was worth a try but not worth going back.

Proof that I'll never go back
Submitted Monday, October 20, 2008 - 4:45pm [Dine in]

This place has been awful ever since it opened and is getting even worse. I stopped going to room 18 two summers ago, but over the weekend had decided to give it another try since it's been almost 2 years. It was AWFUL.
Everytime I've gone they've only had one server and 2 bartenders for the whole place, it would makes sense to have more people on the floor than the bar. In any case, the food was terrible, they have about 12 different wing flavors but when we asked about a few the server said they only had hot and salt and pepper available, so the rest of the flavors were all for show. The rest of the menu was terrible, 3 out of the 6 people ordered quesa's; they were awful, the first bite was actually quite good but my second bite was a mouthful of oil. Another friend ordered the chicken burger which she didn't eat.. other's had wraps and whatnot. I can honeslty say no one like their food; and no one finished their meal.
As an appy we had the spin/art dip - the pita's were deep fried so much that they were completly saturated with oil, so much so that the color was a dark orange not a golden brown.
The baked brie was deep fried- not baked - it was gross.
A friend made a good point that the only reason why this place is still open is because they get the overflow from Hell's and people that can't get a table there or Las Margaritas or anywhere else on 4th.
I don't recommend this place at all. After our meal there we all went somewhere for more drinks, the food was so awful that one of our friends had to go home because she felt so sick from the food.

Boo-urns to everything minus the patio
Submitted Wednesday, October 15, 2008 - 6:25pm [Dine in]

Watermark has been a last minute spot for us to go for a glass of wine and a nice view since it opened..
I've tried it over and over again and came to realize that it sucks.
For the people that don't live in the area I could definatly see the attraction, but after going there, giving it several tries, I have never left satisfied.
Ther service was okay, the basic "order-taker" which is fine - I get it - coming from restaurant background myself I could see how a ton of tourists could be annoying after awhile, but what killed me the most was the over priced everything and the just okay food.
I've been there with with a group of girlfriends, one friend, my parents, basically quite a few time and have always been disappointed.
The last time I went a friend had ordered a diet coke and was charged full price for the refill - which the server offered but didn't mention there would be an extra charge, after mentioning to the server that it's not a huge deal to us but to others it may be a surpirse to pay 6 bucks for 2 pops she told me that they were fine dining and that's what fine dining places do...after telling her that the straw she puts in my pop is more than the syrup they use in the drink she left and was obvioulsy embarrased as she realized we weren't tourists but people living in the neighborhood.

In any even, the place is nice, great view and an awesome patio to watch the sunset, but that's it. They food is a miss. Perhaps others have had a better time. For a drink in the lounge I'd come back, for food I'd rather go to malone's.

After work drinks!
Submitted Tuesday, October 14, 2008 - 1:03pm [Dine in]

Some colleagues and I went to Boneta after work on a friday. We were greeted promptly and were seated right away. The food was delicious and the service was good. We shared a few plates between 4 of us, the poutine was a hit as was the duck confit. It was starting to get busy with the same after work crowd and by 630 pm the lounge was full.
I've been there after work before and have always had a lovely time. It's a great spot to go to if you're looking for a quick bite and a drink to unwind.

Great Vietnamese Fusion
Submitted Tuesday, October 14, 2008 - 12:42pm [Dine in]

This new restaurant was a great spot to go to on a Tuesday night. We ordered a few appy's and a bottle of wine, the food was very good and the value was amazing, the short ribs were fantastic. They have a great wine list to chose from that wasn't over-priced.
The restaurant just opened so it was apparent that the servers were getting used to working there but all in all we had a lovely time and will definatley be back to try more from the menu.

We'll be back
Submitted Saturday, October 11, 2008 - 9:06pm [Dine in]

We headed to Bin around 8pm on a friday night accpecting a half hour wait at the least. We were greeted by a server who told us that it'd be about 15 - 20 mins which was awesome, I asked if we can grab a drink and stand near the door where there was a small ledge she said no problem and gave us a menu and shortly after brought us our wine. The one thing I thought was odd was that she said if we wanted a table right away we can share a table with another couple - who were making out - we thought that was wierd as they were obviously on a date.
Before we could finish our wine our table was ready, a booth no less. We looked through the menu and ordered the coconut mussels, great flavour, nice broth - Tuna 2 ways which we both agreed was our favorite of all the dishes- Ceasar salad I thought it was over dressed but still quite tasty and the Seared Prawn and Scallop which was okay, nothing special, shrimp was a bit over done, scallops were perfect but just okay.
Our food came out quickly and one plate at a time which was lovely as we could enjoy a dish while it was hot (or cold) and fully enjoy all the flavours. The menu is decently priced, some things more overpriced(prawns and scallops) than others but nothing to complain about.
The service was great. Prompt, fun, and attentive. Half way during our meal one of the servers changed our plates and napkins which I thought was a nice touch. They were also always topping off our water and cleaning our table as we finished each dish.
The room is awesome and the music was great. We really enjoyed our dinner and will definalty be back.

Pretty Good
Submitted Thursday, October 9, 2008 - 1:22pm [Dine in]

We went to Crave the other night for dinner, we were actually hoping to try Grub down the street but couldnt get in. In any event we hit up Crave knowing what to expect. It was a Wednesday night and it was full, we sat in the bar and ordered a drink while we waiting, since there was 4 of us if there were more people waiting we would have had to wait outside as the entrance is pretty tight. After 15 min or so we were seated by a server who throughout our wait updated us on the status of our soon to be table. The 4 of us ordered another round of drinks and dinner, our food came out a reasonable time and our server was very attentive. I ordered the mussels as my entree, they were good but not great, I found them too big and the broth lacking flavour, I was also hoping to get some bread to soak up the broth but didn't receive any - in the end no big deal. From what I saw everyone at my table liked their meal.
I've also had brunch at Crave, its good but a bit expensive for what we got. Dinner menu is much better. Also the Iced-Tea is unsweetend, I wish I was given the heads up on that but I drank it anyways, it was refreshing.
It worked as a great alternative to our change of plans that night
