Dosa Corner8248 Fraser Street, #110, Vancouver
Best dosas in the Lower Mainland -- that I have found!
Submitted Monday, December 23, 2013 - 6:24pm [Dine in]

This little restaurant is a bit out of the way, half a block south of Marine Drive on Fraser Street but well worth going out of the way for a lunch or dinner if you love dosas. They opened only in October 2013 but already are attracting a steady clientele despite the location. Now for the food: some of the best dosas this side of India, could compete with the best in Madras! Something like 40 varieties, both veg and non-veg. Every dosa is served with a bowl of sambar and two types of condiments (spicy and cool). They also serve various curries that come complete with rice and naan or roti. Prices are unbelievable on lunch dosa specials ($5.25 veg, $6.25 non-veg) and truly reasonable for the quality at dinner time. Staff are also very friendly and helpful. Try it!

A Middle Eastern Odyssey
Submitted Sunday, September 2, 2012 - 4:58pm [Dine in]

This simple, unostentatious restaurant was a total surprise for the excellent food. Their menu is mainly Lebanese with some Saudi offerings. The baked lamb dish with rice was succulent and tasty. The falafel platter was well-presented, fresh, and surrounded by tabouleh and humous and tahini with very generous serving of fresh falafels. All the food was of high quality. The interior is very simple and unadorned, but go here for the food, not the decor. Service was attentive and friendly. We found other diners from (probably) middle east and northern Africa, some eating their entire meal with fingers. So take a short trip off the continent and enjoy some generous servings of great food at very low prices.

Mirchi7964 Granville Street, Vancouver
Great neighbourhood place
Submitted Monday, July 13, 2009 - 11:14pm [Dine in]

Food here is very good, every dish cooked from fresh ingredients, so may take longer to get served but worth the wait. Very friendly family run restaurant, simple decor but comfortable. All dishes that I've tried on multiple visits have been excellent, wonderful curries, lovely naan (though may be served after food arrives). The meals are around $12 each and include all the extras that other restaurants charge a la carte for, such as rice, naan, small salad; so this represents incredible value in view of the outstanding food. You may find better Indian food on occasion at a very few other restaurants in the Lower Mainland, but not reliably and you will pay significantly more for the complete meal. Try Mirchi if you have not been there before. (Lunch specials here, like at many other restaurants, are cheap but not up to the standard of their dinner menus.)

Boundary Bay Cafe6679 1A Avenue, Delta
Italian pasta gem
Submitted Sunday, March 22, 2009 - 12:11am [Dine in]

The pasta dishes in this simple cafe are outstanding. They would rate full stars even at an upscale Italian restaurant, and here they go for $12.95 per dish. My partner and I had a superb dinner consisting of a penne dish with thick and scrumptious tomato sauce and a ravioli dish with a tomato cream sauce. Each dish was clearly made fresh on the premises. Not a lot of choices on the menu, but if you want simply the best quality and taste, nothing lost by ordering whatever dishes are available on the night that you dine. Simple cafe furnishings and ambiance. An interesting and slightly out-of-the-way location in Tsawwassen, in a residential community near Boundary Bay and the US border. The proprietor/chef is also delightful. Well worth the trip.

Triumph of quantity over quality
Submitted Saturday, October 4, 2008 - 1:10am [Dine in]

This place is busy, but I suspect it is because you get lots of food for your money. But quality is another matter. Wife and I took a large doggy bag home ... and yes, this time it really was for the dog. At least he enjoyed it! Rekados on Main is a much better bet if you want to try quality Phiippino food (haven't reviewed it yet).

Original Tandoori Kitchen7548 120 Street, #2, Surrey
East Indian food at its best
Submitted Saturday, October 4, 2008 - 12:53am [Dine in]

Tandoori Kitchen in Surrey serves some of the finest East Indian cuisine available in the BC Lower Mainland area--regardless of price. There are others in Vancouver that charge more, but the food is best here. In fact, this location is just one of five jointly operated (and with similar names), but this location is clearly better than the two in Vancouver. It must be the kitchen crew and chef. Don't miss out on the malai kofta--heavenly. On occasion we'll take the big drive from Vancouver to Surrey just for another fine meal here.
I'm quite surprised to be the first reviewer of this restaurant; it is tucked away inconspicuously in a little strip mall just north of the big Future Shop on Scott Road.

Green Lettuce1949 Kingsway, Vancouver
Unique and wonderful
Submitted Monday, October 31, 2005 - 9:22am [Dine in]

We've been going to Green Lettuce occasionally for about six years, perhaps once or twice a year, and have never been disappointed. The food is a unique fusion of Chinese and Indian food, a bit closer to Chinese in ingredients and preparation but with Indian seasonings and flavours. By all means try the garlic eggplant with ground chicken, or whatever suits your fancy. Patronage of the restaurant is diverse, many East Indians as well as some Chinese and "Westerners". The hosts/proprietors Rosie and Peter are wonderful, friendly, helpful, and they may remember your name even if you have not been in for a year. Physical ambience of the place is fairly plain, but pleasant and comfortable. Don't miss this place if you like Indian and Chinese food and want a real treat!
