This place has tired grubby 'decor' and parking in the 'hood is a nightmare.
Staff turnover is legendary they seem unable to keep anyone for more than a few weeks-plus Staff are clueless they have no training.
Last I was there the cashier couldn't even give someone directions on the phone as to where the store was-I'm not kidding-he thought the store was on Main St I had to explain to him it was on 28th-he didn't know the address!
Who would hire someone like that?
The food is oily, mass produced and far from fresh even my old favourite the Cottage Cheese Muffins aren't worth eating these days-the so called Bagels are as bad as it gets just awful little buns not worth half of what they charge-and do they charge!
Management doesn't seem to care I spoke with someone on the phone who ID'ed himself as a Manager after the last time I was there he didn't seem to be interested in listening to any complaints and even less interested in listening to ideas about how to improve the place.
Give this place a wide berth until someone who knows what they're doing buys it and puts some money/care/energy/expertise and time into making it function like a modern viable business.

This place is long gone from 4th Ave.
It' as never particularly well run and the food was always indifferent.
People in Kitsilano have no idea what decent Ethiopian is and this place never approached anything worth spending money on.
Now they have new place up on Main Street somewhere that I'll never go to being as how the Red Sea Café is so good.

Had the opportunity to eat @ this great little spot recently and was very satisfied.
The owners have put time and energy into the concept and their low key charming approach is a winner.
Don't be put off by the 'down hood'-inside is clean quiet friendly and well run-quite unlike many east side restaurants.
As per the previous post we had the Veggie Platter-all kinds of well presented tasty vittles(!)

Jolly's is quite popular with Kitsilano residents many of whom walk there.
It's a bit chaotic at times/a small operation that sometimes runs out out of various items but the food is very well done the staff friendly and efficient.
I quite disagree with the description of Jolly's as 'having a European flair'-its an Indian restaurant run by a talented and charming Indian-100% Indian flavours/experience.
