Tucked away in a quaint area of "Trounce Alley", this little establishment is a hidden gem that mostly locals frequent. Sitting on the outer deck makes you feel as if you have been transported to a unique little eatery in Europe. Bring friends...because it's wonderful to chat over drinks and everything is Tapas style so each dish can feed up to 4 or 5 people. We order a variety of dishes and always try something new. We have never been disappointed and each dish offers unique flavours that will make your tongue and tastebuds come alive. Both the meat and vegetarian dishes are equally tastey, so have no fear. The service is friendly and attentive, and it's very reasonable price-wise. But shhhh! Don't tell anyone I told you....we locals are trying to keep this one a secret so it won't become to over-run and we can still get our favourite seats on the deck :)
As a native of Victoria who has tried every afternoon tea service in town (and then some) I can honestly say without hesitation that this is the BEST afternoon tea in town. Quaint and cosy with a friendly staff, you can order off the regular lunch menu, with daily specials, or go with one of their "tried & true" tea services. Either way...you can't go wrong. Everything is fresh and tasty and the variety is a treat for your tastebuds. You will be absolutely stuffed when you leave, but they will package up any leftovers in the event you can't finish everything. Be sure to make reservations, it is a very small establishment and you will be disappointed if you just try to show up for a seat. Also, they are not open on Sunday or Monday.
Yuk! The first time we ate here, we were extremely unimpressed. I could make better pasta at home. We tried it a second time, since I always like to give an establishment time to work the kinks out. Believe it or not...it was even worse. Over-cooked pasta, flavourless sauces, un-imaginative italian dishes. Just "blah" all around. The third time, we were forced into eating here due to a friends birthday celebration. All 11 of us were extremely unhappy with our food. The Ceasar salad tastes like wilted, watery lettuce with miracle whip and garlic salt. Horrid. Those that had pasta still found it over-cooked. The service is fine and the ambiance is so-so...but I will never waste my time or money again. If you want REAL Italian food with flavour and ambiance, try Il Terrazzo instead.
This little family-owned and operated business is a true gem. My husband and I dine here quite often and really enjoy the simple, basic German food...especially the schnitzel's. The staff are extremely friendly and the decor lets you escape to Europe...even if only for a few hours. Delightful ambiance and food that you can count on to be great each and every time. Be sure not to miss the "Apple Strudel" for dessert....the best in the city!
I have fond memories of visiting Nottes Bon Ton when it was a cozy little Patisserie on Granville street with my grandma. We would take the bus down for tea and I would pick out something different each time, then we would purchase a few goodies to take home. I ache for those days, and while the ambiance is nothing like the magical place I once frequented on Granville street, the pastries, confections and cookies haven't changed a bit. The flavours still take me back 25 years to my childhood and even having travelled extensively, I haven't found a bakery that even compares to Nottes to this day. Make sure that when you leave with your cakes, cookies, pastries, or whatever you fancy, that you don't forget to also take home a package of their divine rum truffles. Absolutely mouth watering. Thanks for the memories Nottes, and thanks for continuing such a wonderful, high quality tradition.
This is definitely NOT a family style Italian restaurant. The menu here changes often and always offers wonderful, eclectic "grown up" cuisine. It is very Tuscan/Sicilian style with unique flavours and combinations to match the unique and absolutely beautiful decor and ambiance.
We eat here at least once every 2 weeks and I have never had a bad meal.
The service is second to none with friendly wait staff who are ever attentive and always happy to have a chat.
The free foccaccia bread with olive teppenade that you get before each meal is enough to keep us coming back for more.
They have the best caesar salad in all of Victoria and possibly North America from what I've tasted.
Try the roasted vegetable crepes, or the veal with pancetta and mushroom sauce...absolutely delicious!
Fresh tasting pastas with a variety of sauces are always favourites of ours too.
It's generally packed at lunch and dinner in the summer months so reserve ahead. You won't be sorry.
