Capone's Restaurant & Live Jazz Club1141 Hamilton St., Vancouver
Go for the music NOT the food or service

Perhaps they should consider making this a jazz club and only serve drinks and bar snacks- based on our experience there, I think this is about all they're capable of. We went for our anniversary. We told them it was a special occasion, for all the good that did (none, whatsoever) The food, to use a teenaged word that fits perfectly in this instance 'SUCKED' . I don't think it could have been much worse, in any way. Our pets get better food. Our young , snarky, clueless waitress couldn't have cared less. She was much more interested in yakking it up with the girl behind the bar ad checking out her own reflection. I think she forgot we were even there. And the response from management when we complained was underwhelming, almost bored. They could possibly have been more unhelpful, but I am not sure how. And at the end of it all; they offered us a free meal 'next time'. Yeah, right. At least they have a sense of humor.
As my partner at the time said; we would have been better off going to Mcdonalds for our anniversary dinner.

Nando's Chicken1301 Lonsdale Ave, North Vancouver
A good neighbourhood eatery

I have eaten at Nandos numerous times. Mostly, the food has been good. I love the flavour of the flame grilled chicken, and the lemon & herb sauce. The salads (esp. the mediterranean!) are excellent- always a very fresh mix of ingredients. I think the portions are fine (maybe not for people who are used to "supersize" everything), except it is kinda annoying that the wings only come in 4's, not a half dozen.
The fries have sometimes been hit or miss, sometimes too spicy , or too limp and greasy. I think they have a very good selection of sides, though, and it's nice being able to get a beer or wine with your meal. I also like the reno they did a while back, the place has quite a nice vibe.
And I am really glad they now deliver! A heaven- sent healthy week day dinner when we're too tired to cook!
They could , perhaps, consider offering something other than just chicken. In the U.K., they also serve a beef steak roll, and a great couscous salad.. I wish the'd bring that over here!
Overall, a good choice; healthier options than regular fast food joints, and less expensive than some fancier restaurants.

Hidden gem

When I went to this restaurant, I was extremely pleasantly surprised by the really excellent food. It actually totally blew me away. I had the seared tuna on nicoise salad, and it was, literally bursting with flavour. The best I've ever had.
I had no idea such a simple meal could taste so good. The salad was very fresh, the dressing piquant, the potatoes crispy , the tuna perfectly seared. My companion had the lamb curry. Also excellent; tasty and well spiced without being overpowering. An all round wonderful experience, in a very cosy atmosphere with a nice vibe.
My only criticism would be that the service could've been a bit better, and it is , in my opinion, a bit on the pricey side.
But, for most people, the food and ambience would be well worth the price.
