No more buck a shuck
Submitted Saturday, June 20, 2015 - 11:22pm [Dine in]

Good food...not great but good. Very poor service. Very Very expensive for a tiny bit of food. Myself and my wife's bill 170.00 and we both left hungry and had only 2 watered down drinks and a glass of warm water. I get the whole thing about the amazing chef who's food is so great you only get a taste for hundred dollar bills but doesn't the food have to be worthy of that kind of ego??
The tiny bowls of clam chowder were so salty we could barely eat them.
Now buck a shuck is 3 bucks a shuck.... Sad

Took us 25 min to find our server when we were ready to leave

Too bad this used to be a really good place.

Still looks great with a great location. Guess that's what they're selling now.

Watery Curry anyone?
Submitted Friday, June 8, 2012 - 4:27pm [Dine in]

I agree with the last review I want to like this place.
They have to get a handle on their food a bit better. Not so much water in the curry would be a great start. Too bland in the flavor and too spicy in the hot. Medium spice means medium spice. With the detailed spicy chart you would think they would have that down.
Also I know the place is hip and all but making people stand at the counter for ten minutes while you socialize with friends doesn't make for repeat customers.
Great concept I do hope they get the kinks out this place could be really good.

Tourist Trap Alert
Submitted Saturday, May 26, 2012 - 10:41pm [Dine in]

Service was curt and quick until we needed something.
Food... I ordered the 8oz strip-loin, rare. What did I get? An 8oz strip-loin on a bed of cold french fries with a bit of watery gravy. That's all!!!! oh yes and it was medium rare, not rare.
My wife ordered the salmon which came dry but at least she got some vegetables.
The price? Well I could have gone to any greasy spoon and got a better meal for a quarter of the price.
Beware the tourist traps..... this ones a doooosey.

They did have a nice decorator though. Guess that's where all the money went because they do not have a chef.

Excellent breakfast place
Submitted Thursday, May 24, 2012 - 1:02pm [Dine in]

This place is great quality all around the food is excellent the service is friendly, even when busy. They even have excellent coffee with your choice of dark or light roast. The bill is fair and the atmosphere is funky. I have been there a few times now and will go whenever I can.
Try the waffles with the cream cheese syrup. Wow just the best.
And the benies are fabulous.

Submitted Thursday, May 24, 2012 - 12:56pm [Dine in]

I have been there twice now and have found both times very good. Excellent food and value and the environment is vibrant and exciting. Definitely one of the better places in town.
The staff however have a bit of the superstar attitude and ignoring tables certainly does not encourage tips.
I will still return if I have time to kill. After all I do go for the food and atmosphere. Poor service seldom keeps me away from a good kitchen and nice place.

Prime Steakhouse623 Courtney St, Victoria
Well decorated place
Submitted Thursday, May 24, 2012 - 12:49pm [Dine in]

We felt like steak so I took my wife out to Prime for dinner.
After a look at the menu we decided on the porterhouse to share as it was advertised as 24oz.
What came was a t-bone and 16oz at best. We also ordered it medium rare and it came rare.
She ordered the double baked potato and it was bland and dry.
The waitress was nice but certainly not the price. When you pay $48.00 for a porterhouse one expects a porterhouse.
I think I will stick to seafood in Victoria and save the steaks for Alberta.

Quaint until you get the bill.
Submitted Thursday, May 24, 2012 - 12:39pm [Dine in]

High end prices for poor lunch menu food.
Ordered a beef curry dish that was bland at best with very tough beef.
My friend ordered the seafood salad and could only eat a bit. The seafood tasted stale. She also ordered a virgin margarita that was 50 cents less than a regular one.
My other friend ordered the salmon salad which also tasted stale. No half order for lunch there.
The place was quaint but the bathrooms smelled like they hadn't been cleaned in awhile.
The service was fine but nothing special.
The price was way out of line for the place. The final bill was nearly $90.00
Definitely will not be returning.

Hairy Mushrooms and Cardboard Pasta
Submitted Saturday, April 28, 2012 - 8:45pm [Dine in]

it was 13 degrees outside and lightly raining. They had their A/C on so we had to switch tables. Then we had to sit and wait about 15min for a server. Then we had to wait another 15min for our drinks. Our appy took so long I forgot we ordered it. It was Mushooms Neptune with little black hairs and dry toast. I think it was supposed to be garlic toast but they seemed to have forgotten the butter. It went back to the hells kitchen from where it came. The wait for our mains began. Finally they arrived and to my surprise were horrible. The baked beef raviolli had no beef to be found. If you like undercooked freezdried raviolli with flour and beef bullion stuffing order this dish its a doosy. The spinich Cannaloni was bland but full of spinach. It was a little better but so is McDonalds.
The bill? 55.00
Save yourself the grief and your money.

Submitted Saturday, April 21, 2012 - 6:42pm [Dine in]

I've been reading the reviews about this place and I have to say my experiences don't match up. I've been there twice now and both times the food service and prices have been very good. The environment is nice. I had the fresh oysters and they were really good and cheaper than anywhere else in Victoria. I also had sushi rolls terryaki chicken and many other items and all came in perfect timing and excellent taste.
Restaurants can go through staff issues and clearly whatever they were doing wrong they got it sorted out. I hope it stays this way.

Needs remodeling
Submitted Sunday, April 1, 2012 - 12:29pm [Dine in]

The first thing you notice when you walk in is the place is a mess and stinks a bit. Badly needs a makeover.
The staff are very friendly that is always nice these days.
The food was ok. The dolmades were from a can and came with nothing on a dish. A bit of lemon would have been nice. Ordered the lamb. Rice was bland. Salad was plain iceburg with vinigar. The leg of lamb was well done and well seasoned. The drink selection was very poor. settled on a can of pop.
Price was very high for the food quality and service.
Probebly wont return.

Great waffles service not
Submitted Sunday, April 1, 2012 - 12:17pm [Dine in]

They do make a great waffle and as long as they can survive on that alone they should be fine. Very slow service. Ordered a smoothie that didnt come until we made two requests then when we were finished they finally decided to make it as we were leaving.
For 1 smoothie and 2 waffles we paid $32.00. Way overpriced.
Loud hip hop music which is great for a club at nite but not in the morning during breakfast.
Unsure if I will return. If I do will be takeout only.

Ordered the duck. took awhile but was well worth it. Very flavorful but a little chewy. Bread came after our meal as did our drinks which was odd. But all very good anyway. Cremebrule for desert of course and absolutely perfect.
Service was sincere polite and attentive.
Price was a bit high but typical for good french.
Beautiful decor and ambiance.
Would return and would recommend.

Best breakfast place yet. Had the Nemo Eggs Benny and the Blueberry Lemon Crepe. Everything done perfectly. They have obviously taken the time to perfect their recipes and cook with care and attention. The flavors were amazing.
Service was excellent and timely. Very attentive and polite. The coffee however was extremely bitter. I wouldn't recommend it but the tea was organic and perfect.

A little pricey but one must pay for quality.
Colorful little place, very cute.

Will definitely return to try more items on the menu.

Nice looking place thats where it ends
Submitted Thursday, March 29, 2012 - 11:50pm [Dine in]

The $30.00 steak was served rotten and served without cutlery. I actually had to get up and go find the waitress to get cutlery. Need I say more? No but I will. Our drinks were the first thing we ordered and the last thing that came. They tasted like water and voldka, they were supposed to be cesears. They were not even busy.
The place was so nice that I think they spent all their budget on decor and had none left over for food and staff.
Certainly will not return.

O the attitude
Submitted Thursday, March 29, 2012 - 11:39pm [Dine in]

The food was good and came fast. The drinks were good and came slow.
The waitress had the attitude of a supermodel but without the looks. Treated my girlfriend like garbage.
she had to ask for a glass for her cooler and when that finally came it was slid across the table at her. Then she had to ask for a straw and when that came it was thrown in her drink. The looks she gave her were ignorant and rude. I understand the competition among girls as we experience it quite alot but to be treated like that in a restaurant by the staff is very gross.
Restaurants need to hire waitresses not wannabe models to represent their establishment.
The bill was nothing to brag about either and was harder to swallow after the treatment.
When she finally picked up the bill she rudely asked how much change I wanted back. These girls think tipping is mandatory.Tipping is a gift for doing an outstanding job.
Don't think I will be returning there.

Wow these guys need to hire a cook
Submitted Thursday, March 29, 2012 - 9:51pm [Take-out]

Ordered Pork ribs, fried oysters, and poblono stuffed peppers.
The oysters were unedible as were the stuffed peppers and the ribs were tough and chewy. They tasted like they were doused in liquid smoke and then drowned in cheap BBQ sauce. There was nothing resembling a southern style BBQ.
Dont waste your money here they want alot of it for very poor cooking.
Should have read the reviews before going here.
