Great sushi for dine in or take out!
Submitted Saturday, June 13, 2009 - 5:07pm [Dine in]

I've eaten here many times and have always enjoyed the food. The sushi combo's are quite a good deal. The place can get quite busy so with that in mind I've usually been happy with the service except for the odd occasion. I am going to try other sushi places in town but definitely will go again as well.

DQ ... Cool treats!
Submitted Saturday, June 13, 2009 - 5:02pm [Dine in]

We always enjoy DQ treats and this one always satisfies. The location is old (no real seating area), but is great to pick up a couple cones on a hot day. You may encounter a line. The neighbourhood has a park down the road if you want to go for a stroll as you eat your treat. As for the service, it has lacked several times when I've gone, but who cares? It's DQ! Recently it's gotten better so I cant really complain. I have no issue with the neighbourhood or customers who go, and recommend it to anyone, kids included.

Great bakery and cake shop in New West!
Submitted Saturday, June 13, 2009 - 4:55pm [Dine in]

When looking for a nice birthday cake we stumbled across this place in our own back yard... what a gem! The owners are very friendly and accomodating. The cake we got was fantastic (white cake with fruit), and the pastries we grabbed to go were great! They were also very willing to look at ingredients to double check allergy concerns which we appreciated. We wish them the best of luck and will return!

Davie Mongolian BBQ1161 Dave Street, Vancouver
Best value on Davie
Submitted Saturday, June 13, 2009 - 4:51pm [Dine in]

I ate here so many times when I lived downtown. The best value is the take out dinner, which I almost always had. Some prefer to dine in as you can go up for seconds. Good selection of ingredients (and as much meat or veggies as you can pack in to your bowl). As shady as it might look to a first time diner, I never once got sick or felt unsure about what I was eating. Greasy decor, yes, does it matter when you take out your food? No! Go try this little place for lunch or dinner and I bet you'll go back!

Papa Dave's Pizza820 20th Street, New Westminster
Great pizza in New West
Submitted Saturday, June 13, 2009 - 4:43pm [Dine in]

Every time I get a pizza, its from Papa Dave's. The day I moved to New West we got a couple pizzas for our buddies who helped us out. Ever since, we've gone there. So, to be fair, I don't know all the other pizza joints in New West, but I dont need to as this one's got the pizza, the price and delivery! Pretty good pizza for a solid price. I recommend it if you're looking for regular fare and dont want to pay what the chains call fair.

Great breakfast for under $5!
Submitted Saturday, June 13, 2009 - 4:35pm [Dine in]

We've gone here several times and always have a laugh at the decor... but really enjoy it because of the food and value. You can get breakfast (eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and toast) for less than $5. Coffee is good too. The servers are busy but try to get your refills done asap and are quite friendly. We'll keep going if they keep it up! The 12th st location is just as solid but I have'nt gone in a while.

Good food, great patio
Submitted Saturday, June 13, 2009 - 4:27pm [Dine in]

We went here last night for a late dinner and drinks. The place was pretty empty for a Friday night so we were able to get a nice patio booth immediately. Great little patio set up with comfy padded booths, tvs to watch the game, and a trendy fireplace. The beer special was offered twice and when I said I'd take one, she said they might not have any left (which they did'nt). Why offer it then?? The food is solid. I had the Bacon Chedder Burger and my wife had the Applewood Chicken Pizza. Both were quite good. The pizza would have to be rated a 4/5 and the burger a 3/5. Dessert we had the white chocolate brownie... very nice. They were accomodating to allergy concerns, and overall quite helpful. We'll go again but it's gotta stay solid to keep us coming as there is plenty of competition in that neighbourhood...

Joe's Grill... I still crave your hot sauce!
Submitted Saturday, February 9, 2008 - 12:07pm [Dine in]

Since moving out of the west end recently, I still crave my Joe's Grill breakfasts. Whatever you order, be it eggs, pancakes, omelettes, eggs benny, or a chicken avacado club, it is always great. They also make their own hot sauce which is excellent! The decor is simple, functional, but the food and service are the real deal. It often gets quite busy, but the servers never rush you out of the door as soon as you are done. Thanks for the many great breakfasts and lunches Joe's. I will visit again when I am downtown.

Hamburger Mary's Diner1202 Davie Street, Vancouver
Yummy eats at late hours
Submitted Monday, July 31, 2006 - 11:52am [Dine in]

Hamburger Mary's is a great place to get a good burger late at night. The place has a nice 50's decor. The service is friendly but slow. The burgers are pretty darn good, and the appies are smokin hot (try the jalapeno poppers). The best part is their big beer deals.. For the price, and convinence, you will be satisfied!

Thanks for the food poisoning
Submitted Monday, July 31, 2006 - 11:45am [Dine in]

It was a while ago when I ate here, but my memories of the food and the food poisoning have not faded. I was somewhat pleased with my chicken curry dish when I ate it, but it made me very very sick that night. I was unable to eat for 2 days, and could only manage diluted gatorade to rehydrate myself. My friend had the Pad Thai and was dissapointed with it as well. He was lucky and did not get sick.

All India Sweets & Restaurant6507 Main Street, Vancouver
Try it for yourself before passing it by.
Submitted Monday, July 24, 2006 - 10:07am [Dine in]

All India Sweets and Restaurant may be lacking ambiance, I'll agree with other reviewers here. The service that is not in your face all the time, but there when you need it. The vegetarian buffet is pretty good! Obviously buffet food isnt going to be the crem de la crem, but what do you honestly expect for all you can eat for about $8? The Naan is usually very moist and fresh, and if you get some that is a bit crusty like one of the other reviewers had, then just ask for some fresh stuff. Its usually brought out every couple of minutes anyways. The butter chicken is the best that I have tried thus far. Try it, and then decide for yourself. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Takis Taverna1106 Davie Street, Vancouver
No Line-ups Here... but there should be!
Submitted Monday, July 24, 2006 - 9:48am [Dine in]

Taki's Taverna is a great little Greek restaurant on Davie st. Just doors from the popular "Stephos" restaurant, Taki's offers great food without the long line up. For under $15, you can enjoy a calamari platter (grilled or deep fried), Athenian Chicken (really yummy), Roast Lamb or any other great Greek foods. The service is good, and the ambiance is inviting and fun. Try Taki's today and you will return time and again for great Greek food.

Good Downtown Indian Food
Submitted Monday, July 24, 2006 - 9:39am [Dine in]

India Gate offers wonderful cuisine, at an affordable price. If you are looking for Indian food downtown, this is a good place to start. The food is delicious, with varying degrees of spicyness depending on your taste. Try the Butter Chicken! I have gone here three or four times and have enjoyed it every time. The decor is dated, but if you dont mind the 1970's wood paneling, you will be in for a treat. India Gate was also in the Entertainment Book in 2005-06, so check your book if you have one!
