I've eaten at the Cascade Room about five times in the last three months and I've always enjoyed it. The food is just good to solid but the inspired drinks menu and good little wine list makes it rise above the ordinary. The food is tasty and fresh, and I have always had excellent, professional, attentive service.
I took my friends to Thea's Taverna based on the good recommendations here and I was really disappointed.
Food: My $16 seafood souvlaki was one small portion, three scallops and three shrimp. The shrimp were tasteless, and the scallops tasted horrible (but at least did not make me sick). $16 chicken special was only barely adequate. Appetizer plate of four dips were tasty, but they came with only one pita and we were charged extra for more bread.
Service: Even though the place was empty, we got a nasty look from the hostess when we said we didn't have a reservation. Huge place, nearly no guests, and attitude? Not nice. There was only one server for the whole huge room and she was run off her feet.
I definitely would never go to Thea's again.
The service is very unpracticed -- servers seem to only have the barest idea of what they're doing. However, they were attentive with our water glasses and they were pleasant enough, so I can't really say the service was poor. It was just... unprofessional. Presumably they'll learn.
Chicken Katsu was overly breaded, but the sauce was tasty.
The rolls were fantastic, though, and worth every penny. Two of us filled up for $25, making this our new favourite sushi place.
They also offer local delivery on orders over $20.
