Gratuity Mix-up spoiled a great night
Submitted Tuesday, February 10, 2009 - 10:42pm [Dine in]

A group of us tried this out after being told how fabulous the desserts were. It was a two for the price of one promotion for Jan/Feb.

You could tell the staff were still learning the ropes and lacked the pizazz of professionals but they were still very amiable.

I had two seafood dishes as an appertiser and a main both of which were great. The salmon entree was one of the most generous portions I've received and the rice was fabulous. The others in the group had lamb which they raved about and cornish hen which was apparently only ordinary.

All in all everyone was happy with the night and overwhelmed by the presentation and the taste delight that was the dessert.

The only gripe I have with PICA and unfortunately it left us all with a sour taste in our mouth was the gratuity. A 15% gratuity/service charge is added to the final bill which is fine and not an issue for anyone however the service charge is added to the full price of the set menu rather than the discounted price. This essentially creates a service charge of 30% and while I was very happy with the food and satisified with the service it did not warrant a 30% service charge.

Tasty take away
Submitted Friday, January 30, 2009 - 10:41pm [Dine in]

I've only had take away from here (be warned they only deliver where they can walk...or perhaps that was just due to the weather). The food was really good - spicy (tears to my eyes) and authentic tasting. I love Thai food and will definitely be going there more often, I'm not sure if the atmosphere is necessarily great (just an observation from walking past) but the food makes up for that and the staff that I've dealt with on the phone and getting my food delivered are really nice so I imagine serice would be good in the restaurant too.

It has really grown on me
Submitted Friday, January 30, 2009 - 10:37pm [Dine in]

I had heard great things about this restaurant and I'm a vegetarian so I was keen to check out "the Naam" and see what the fuss was about. The first time I went there I was a bit jet lagged so wasn't too aware of what was going on but on subsequent visits it has really grown on me. The staff are friendly, efficient and just really pleasant with out that tip hunting smile you get at some restaurants. It just represents solid value and it has got a wide variety of food to appeal to any diner (vegetarian or not). The line can sometimes seem dautning but it seems to move fast and you're never pressured to get out to make way for the next diner. My only complaint is that the meals are huge so you've either got to take home the left overs or feel guilty about wasting food.

Trattoria Italian Kitchen1850 West 4th Ave, Vancouver
Good Value, decent atmosphere
Submitted Friday, January 30, 2009 - 10:32pm [Dine in]

The smell of the food here is amazing but the taste never quite lives up to the aromas despite this Trattoria Kitchen represents really good value. They don't take reservations which can be a pain if you've got plans but there's usually space at the bar or waiting area to have a drink while you wait (or plenty of nearby restaurants if you don't want to wait). The service is pleasant although the music is too loud and detracts from the atmosphere. The decor is nice although it is nice in that bachelor pad type way that seems popular in a lot of restaurants in Vancouver.

always satisfies

I go here a reasonable amount and the food while not necessarily the most interesting in Yaletown is always tasty and the atmosphere is nice and the servers are always pleasant and efficient without being in your face and bothering you all the time. I often go here with people from outside of town that aren't into anything too flashy but like to know Vancouver is a cool place.

Nice comfy night out
Submitted Friday, January 16, 2009 - 11:58pm [Dine in]

Ukranian food is never going to blow your taste buds but it is always tasty and filling. The staff at this restaurant are absolutely lovely, they're so friendly and pleasant and the atmosphere just makes it a nice place to go once in awhile. The food is excellent value for money and I walked away swearing I wouldn't need to eat for a week.

The dessert and appertiser was great, the main/entree was nice but I've had salmon tastier and in BC there are no excuses for less than great salmon. I would recommend going there although my only complaint was I said I didn't want a sweet wine and the wine I had was sweet. The server however did give me the chance to taste it etc but was too polite to turn it down.
