Sushi Mori is definitely my favourite sushi restaurant in the Tri-City (Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody) area. I go there often and so do many families I know.
When you walk in, you'll see beautiful artificial cherry blossom trees and hanging oragami paper cranes. I really appreciate the aesthetic attention to detail. You also always get a small free appetizer, usually some pickled vegetables. And you usually get a slice of orange at the end of your meal too.
Also, the lunch teriyaki bento box is a really great deal at $8.00! You get your teriyaki with rice, a salad, some tofu, 2 pieces of dynamite roll and 3 pieces of california roll, assorted tempura, and a couple other special things. The quantity is good and so is the quality -- you will leave the restaurant full and satisfied.
Aside from the lunch specials, there is an extensive menu and, truthfully speaking, I've always enjoyed everything that I've ordered.
The service is also good and very friendly. The only thing is that since the restaurant is such a great place, it can get pretty busy at times for lunch and then, of course, the servers are very busy as well, so you'll have to work harder at getting their attention or you might want to just go to the till to pay instead of waiting for your bill.
That said, Sushi Mori is the type of place where they really do seem to care about your whole dining experience. And of course, the food is great! I can't say enough good things and I can't recommend it enough.
My friend, a Richmond local, took us to Pearl Castle and I really liked it! There are 2 menus: an extensive drink menu and a food menu. Depending on what you order, the drinks can be pricey, but my drink ("Floating Ice" - milk, coconut, and ice cream) was really delicious. I also ordered rice with Taiwanese meat sauce ($4.95) and wasn't expecting much, but was impressed with the generous portion which included accompanying side dishes (spicy tofu, fresh broccoli with dressing, and some bok choy), and dessert of a single cream puff.
The atmosphere was bright and fun. Also, our server was really nice, friendly and helpful. It's clearly a popular place, so be prepared to line up and wait a bit on Friday/Saturday evenings.
I would definitely go back and recommend the place to others!
In the Coquitlam area, Pearl Fever is my favourite place for bubble tea. The service is always friendly and I've always been a satisfied customer with my bubble tea there.
They've spruced up the place a bit over the last year or so, giving the place a much cleaner and classier atmosphere. The only problem is that it can get really busy at night and on weekends so if you're looking for a place to sit down and hang out with friends, this might not be a good place for that. I really think this location would benefit by doing renovations and expanding their seating area.
Pearl Drops used to be my "go-to" bubble tea place whenever I was in that area of Burnaby, but the last couple times I have been there, the bubble tea has been really watery and didn't taste good. I like that they use fresh fruit and loose teas to make their bubble tea, but the watery taste is just not good at all which, in turn, makes the teas seem really expensive for no reason. I won't be recommending this place anymore. :(
