We joined a line up on Sunday with only a few groups ahead of us, 2 sets of couples and one group of 4. About 45 minutes into the wait we finally saw a table for 4 open up. Just as we were getting our hopes up that we could finally get out of the cold and into a warm restaurant they seated a couple at the table for 4 who were not in the lineup. Not exactly sure what happened there but they seemed to be "friends" of the staff so I guess they got preferential treatment over the customers waiting outside in the cold for close to an hour. WE FINALLY got seated exactly one hour after joining the lineup....had we known it would take that long with the few number of groups waiting we would have abandoned the effort but too much time had been invested to give up.
The gal serving us was pleasant but slow. It took a bit to get our drink and appetizer order in and during the meal we had to ask a couple times for second drinks as the original request was forgotten.
The only decent thing about this place is the lasagna and mussels, the rest of the food is mediocre at best and the way they treat the customers (unless of course you're a friend of the staff or owner) is pretty bad. I won't be going anywhere near this place again....we'll go back to Anton’s on Hastings where they know how to run a restaurant.
Let's start with the good things:
Great food
Beautiful restaurant
Beautiful scenery
Now the bad things:
The restaurant seemed unorganized from start to finish. Lots of staff but not a lot getting done.
Our reservation was for 8:30 p.m. but we didn't eat until just before 10:00 p.m.
We arrived just after 8:00 and were told the table would be ready close to 8:30 so we took a seat in the lounge. It took 20 minutes to get our first drinks.
While sitting in the lounge we we told a couple times that they were sorry about the wait but the table should be ready within a couple minutes. (Once at 8:40 and again about 10 minutes later) Had we known it would take as long as it did the staff should have just been honest so we could order an appetizer while we waited...
We were seated at our table just before 9:00.
It took aabout 20 minutes to get our appetizers and meal ordered.
At 9:40 the waitress came back to the table to say that the main dish I ordered was no longer available. The appetizers arrived shortly after that. We ended up getting our main dishes shortly before 10:00 p.m.
When we were being seated I noticed several tables that had been empty but just not cleared and reset. There were no groups of people paying or waiting to pay so the tables had been empty for a bit. Why it took them so long to get a table ready for us is a mystery. Throughout the evening we received 4 apologies for a variety of things but offered nothing to make up for the poor service.
Dinning out at a restaurant should be an experience from the time you walk in the door to the time you leave. Unfortunately our experience with the Boathouse was a bad one. The evening was not worth the amount of money we paid.
My husband and I ordered take out. We were given a 45 minute time frame for delivery but the food took a little over an hour to get to our house which is less than 10 minutes away. The food was cold by the time we got it and unfortunately not worth the wait. Two out of the five dishes were dry and over cooked the rest lacked flavour. We were definitely not impressed.
Please disregard the ratings for ambiance and service. The review requested all items to be rated but we have not eaten in the restaurant and can not fairly rate the performance.
