I frequent The Cascade Room a lot. I love the atmosphere. The food is also great and the service has always been fantastic. The location for a restaurant like this is great. I live in the area and like that I don't have to go downtown for the lounge-like ambience. There are very few places like this in Vancouver, outside of Gastown. I would highly recommend for Thursday night dinner and drinks. Their burgers (both beef and veggie) are fantastic.
I went to Le Crocodile for a romantic dinner...not ideal. The food was delicious. The service was wonderful. However, the atmosphere was similar to a cafe. The ambience didn't seem to fit with the quality (and price) of the food. It was very loud and not at all private. It makes a great lunch spot, but wouldn't recommend for dinner.
We came across Crepe Montagne as we were walking through the village looking for a quick breakfast on Sunday, Feb 8th. We were very pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is really cute and the service was super quick (and the place was very busy). The food was delicious (I had the Freestyle Crepe)! I would highly recommend this restaurant (the lunch options looked really good as well).
I went to Caramba this weekend. We had a reservation for 8 pm, which we had to wait until approx. 8:30 to actually be seated. The service was decent. The food was nothing spectacular. The restaurant music was very loud and slightly annoying. I had been to Caramba twice before and enjoyed my experience, but this last experience will deter me from going again. I also wouldn't recommend it for couples. Perhaps the atmosphere is best suited for a large group.
I recently went to Cin Cin for the first time. The ambience was quite nice and the service was excellent. Our server did a fantastic job of recommending items, without coming across pushy. I had the bison gnocchi, which was amazing. The wine was a bit overpriced. It was my boyfriend's birthday and they were great with the desert including; helping to choose the right one, writing happy birthday on the plate and bringing it out with a simple candle.
My boyfriend and I went here for a romantic dinner, which the atmosphere was ok for. The service when we first came in was terrible. We had a reservation and we told the older gentleman and then he just walked away without saying anything and started taking a tables order. We had no idea what was going on. He then proceeded to seat people who came in behind us whom didn't have reservations. Once we were seated our waiter for the rest of the night was a younger man, which we thought was great.
The food was ok. My lasagna was good, but my boyfriend's meal (a chicken dish) wasn't.
It wasn't the worst place I have been nor was it anywhere near the best. Glad I went so now I know.
