Fantastic Brunch...Plan to become a "regular"
Submitted Monday, January 21, 2013 - 12:41pm [Dine in]

Went for brunch yesterday on the recommendation of friends and will definitely be back! The room is a great size and with the big glass windows it’s a great place to watch the Drive. The buck a shuck is a crazy good deal. I expected low quality oysters (like Rodney’s does for their low-tide) but was pleasantly surprised. All the oysters we had were small and delicious. I don’t like a ton of sauces ruining the taste of the oysters so what they provided was perfect. The lobster benny was to die for. All the food we ate was amazing. Considering the quality, the food is a really good value. It would have been nice to maybe have maybe one cheap wine options....for that third bottle but then again with the food being so reasonable it makes sense. The guy working was super friendly even though he was clearly really busy. This place being slightly more upscale than other places in the area but still well within reach is a great addition to the drive. We’ll be back soon!

Great Neighbourhood Spot
Submitted Tuesday, February 14, 2012 - 1:20pm [Dine in]

I'm so mad at myself for not trying this place sooner! The decor is cute, nothing fancy but it feels authentic. Service was great (I went with a fairly large group). I wasn't blown away by the appetizers but my main (chicken soulavki) was fantastic. The prices are incredible.....you can get a litre of wine for $25 and a great two for $20 dinner. If your in the neighbourhood (and tired of waiting in line outside the fantastic Red Wagon) give this place a try.

Never Disapointed
Submitted Tuesday, August 10, 2010 - 11:52am [Dine in]

I've only been twice, but the food has been excellent both times. I love the steak and blue cheese salad and the mussels. The baked brie is also an excellent deal. The service is always great. Last time we were rather demanding asking for certain drinks to arrive with specific parts of our meal. The server must have been watching us closely because she was bang on. My only complaint is that the music was quite loud and you had to yell to carry on a conversation. I get it for the evening but this was six o'clock!

Amazing Service
Submitted Monday, September 14, 2009 - 3:16pm [Dine in]

The service in this place is really exceptional, from the woman at the front door, to guy behind the bar to the server. They all seem really happy to be there. We went on the open mic night and despite it being a bit loud at times (but what to you expect at an open mic night!) the atmosphere is really great. We were really impressed with our food and while the prices are a bit high for that area, the food is totally worth it and the place is clearly on a higher level then everything else near by. Try the soup it's great!

Amazing Dinner
Submitted Thursday, August 27, 2009 - 4:54pm [Dine in]

My boyfriend took me to the Cannery for my birthday dinner. It's been a week and I'm still thinking about how great it was! I loved the ambiance. You can tell that it's old but it's unusual and the style suits its location right on the water.

The service was great from beginning to end and food was fantastic. We started with oysters, the mussels and the trio of tartar, all were excellent. My boyfriend had the Arctic Char for a main which was fabulous and I had the Mahi Mahi. Both portions were large and the vegetables that accompanied the fish were perfectly cooked. A small portion of garlic mash finished off the plate really well. We're not big dessert people so we didn't bother.

Our dinner, including cocktails and a bottle of wine came out to just over $200. I thought that was great value for what we received.

I would recommend this restaurant for special occasions and to take out of town guests. Hurry up though, they still haven't found a new owner!

Great Drinks!
Submitted Friday, August 21, 2009 - 1:58pm [Dine in]

I just had to respond to the comment about the weak margaritas. I have had the exact opposite experience. My boyfriend and I were in a few months ago and ordered a pitcher. It's pretty steep at 27 bucks but went for it anyway. We couldn't believe how strong it was. We actually still talk about it! I really enjoy this place. The food is good, the patio is great and in my experience the drinks are stiff. The only downside is having to wait for a table for a while but they do give you that handy little pager.

Good food, Amazing price
Submitted Tuesday, August 4, 2009 - 4:27pm [Dine in]

This place is a real bargain. It can be quite busy so be prepared to wait but the service is really good, especially considering they could probably use a few more staff members during the rushes. By no means is this the best sushi in the city but the quality is good, the portions are large and the price is very fair. The sashimi is good and very big, would totally recommend this place if your in the area.

I Love this place
Submitted Wednesday, January 23, 2008 - 12:18pm [Dine in]

I agree that the service is pretty bad here, you just have to expect it when you come. Its not that they're lazy they're just incredibly understaffed. The Alaska roll is the best anywhere, I leave downtown (often in rush hour) to have dinner here. The food is great and the price makes it even better.

Best Chicken wrap in the city!
Submitted Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 1:28pm [Dine in]

I have to agree with the comments below regarding the service. The service is terrible at this place. I've sat for over 25 minutes without a menu before and finally had to go looking for someone, I've frequently been forgotten when I've put my name on the list and once you receive your food, you rarely see a server again. HOWEVER, the chicken wrap and mojito's are so delicious I will continue to frequent this place...that and the wonderful patio on a sunny day.

The decor is the charm
Submitted Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 1:25pm [Dine in]

I am always baffled by the comments about the decor at Nick's. The whole point is that its a hole in the wall from the 70's. I love the fact that this place looks exactly as it does in my childhood memories. There is not restaurant like Nick's, the location, size and decor are all part of the experience. If your looking for a fancy restaurant this is not for you. If your looking for an authentic pasta place, try Nick's. The food is excellent and the helpings are huge. I cant recommend this place enough...in fact, I'm going tonight!
