Mr. Mikes Steakhouse & Bar2991 Lougheed Highway, #32, Coquitlam
Pleasantly surprised
Submitted Sunday, June 13, 2010 - 10:37pm [Dine in]

I went to Mr. Mike's tonight with my 2 sisters. I was a bit hesitant to go because of the reviews I've seen on here in the past... but the food and the service were both pretty outstanding. I had the chicken breast wrapped in phyllo and it was delicious. the value was pretty good as well at only 15 dollars for my entree. i've been to places that would charge much more something like that. my sisters both had steaks which they said were also great. we all shared an awesome pineapple cheesecake afterwards that was pretty amazing. Service was fast and friendly as well. I'm usually wary of these "steakhouse" joints as you never know what you're gonna get, but I can honestly say it was a great experience. Definitely would go back.

Andales Mexican Restaurant3211 W Broadway St., Vancouver
Not too shabby....
Submitted Sunday, February 10, 2008 - 11:12pm [Dine in]

My experience at Andales was pretty solid, from the service to the food. It's a dim, cozy little place, one that had the feel of a family restaurant.

Our server was a bit late with taking our order, but by the time our food came (which wasn't that long of a wait) all was forgiven. The fajitas were great, with lots of fresh guacamole. The chicken enchiladas were also really good, with a nice cheesy ancho sauce. We paid just under 25 bucks for two very decent meals with the entertainment coupon. I will be back.

Service and ambiance were awesome....value not so much
Submitted Sunday, January 13, 2008 - 11:22pm [Dine in]

I went to Le Marrakech with a group recently and was impressed by the high level of service we were given. The owners seem to really care about their customers and tried hard to ensure we all were taken care of. It couldn't have been easy trying to please a crowd of 20 people in a small space! I also loved the atmosphere and the entertainment - the belly dancer was incredible!

What I wasn't so impressed with were the prices. For what you get, it's not really worth the money. The food was quite tasty though, had the short ribs with cous cous and the scallop/prawn appy to start. Had to admit that the scallops and prawns were pretty skimpy, come to think about it, there was only one scallop on the dish!!

I would try Le Marrakech again, given how nice the service was and that the food was reasonably good. But I may have to save up first!

Me-N-Ed's Pizza Parlor7110 Hall Ave, Burnaby
Great service, great pizza
Submitted Saturday, January 12, 2008 - 4:25pm [Dine in]

I was at Me-N-Ed's last night with 4 other people during their peak dining hour. Our waitress was very friendly and quick, and delivered our drinks immediately. The food came within minutes of our ordering. as well. The pizza is great here, not the standard greasy stuff I've had at other restaurants. Try the Godfather or the Chicken Pesto, you won't be disappointed. Their crust is thin and crispy, and you can order it as whole wheat which is a nice alternative. They'll always have my business.

Bad service, okay food at best
Submitted Saturday, June 9, 2007 - 1:14am [Dine in]

My experience at Savory Coast was doomed from the start. Our waiter was arrogant and inattentive, and proceeded to ignore our table for a good 20 minutes after our drinks arrived and we wanted to order food. Once we ordered, we were made to wait around 45 minutes for it to arrive. By then we were ready to high-tail it out of there but wanted to give the food a shot. Unfortunately it was nothing to write home about. My salmon was okay but the portion size was small. My sister's and friend's pizzas looked like something I could have made at home myself. All in all, a disappointing experience. The food actually wasn't so much the problem as was the crappy service. I will say one thing - it's a beatiful, spacious restaurant. Not enough to bring me back though.

Glowbal Grill and Satay Bar1079 Mainland Street, Vancouver
Will never return
Submitted Sunday, May 27, 2007 - 9:43pm [Dine in]

Beware the terrible service at Glowbal/Afterglow lounge. I am really fed up with trendy Yaletown joints with staff who have their noses up in the air, in particular the management. What ever happened to putting the customer first? Their food is not great, the prices are inflated, and the only kind thing I can say is that the drinks are fairly good. As one can obviously tell, my experience was a disaster and I will not be coming back.

Old Spaghetti Factory50 8th Street, New Westminster
Not bad

The OSF is usually not somewhere one would go for Italian fine dining, but in my opinion if you're looking for decent pasta at a good price I'm all for it. The Manager's Special with mushroom sauce and mizithra cheese is the usual for me and I've been pretty happy with it. Last time I went the server was quite friendly and efficient. Overall, it's somewhere I don't mind visiting. I do have to say that the New West location is probably the least favourite of mine given the area, although that doesn't affect my opinion of the food/service.

Poncho's827 Denman St, Vancouver
Bad Service
Submitted Sunday, April 8, 2007 - 2:30am [Dine in]

I read the reviews of Poncho's before visiting there over the weekend. I should have known that my experience wouldn't be any better. First, my fiance and I had to wait 15 minutes for a table after being promised it would only be 5 minutes, and with two tables having already been cleared and ready for customers. After finally being seated, we had to wait another 5 minutes for our menus and no one took our drink order until well after that. After almost walking out at that point, we grudgingly decided to have fajitas and the tostada. They were okay at best. The margaritas were really good though. And they give you chips and salsa to start your meal which was pretty good. That's about all I can say that was positive about our experience. We probably won't be going back as we didn't feel valued as customers at all.

Hamilton Street Grill1009 Hamilton Street, Vancouver
A nice experience overall
Submitted Sunday, February 11, 2007 - 7:18pm [Dine in]

My fiance and I headed to Hamilton Street Grill on a recent Friday evening. The food was stellar, beginning with beef carpaccio which was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I had the salmon on a bed of red pepper and shrimp risotto. Needless to say, it was incredibly flavourful, and the portion was generous. My fiance had the New York steak topped with bearnaise sauce and crab meat which was also very nice, although it was a tad cold and my entree was very hot, so we figured that the steak may have been plated prior to my dish. Besides this small complaint, we were both very pleased with the service and the food and plan to return. A great place for "date night" in my view.

Great food at Chilli House
Submitted Sunday, February 4, 2007 - 2:01am [Dine in]

My fiance and I had a great dining experience at Chilli House Thai Bistro recently. Their Bangkok Platter is excellent, with plenty of crispy wontons, awesome chicken satay, spring rolls and four different dipping sauces. The platter was worth coming for on its own, however we also had mussels and clams in a spicy chilli sauce and yellow curry. Both were excellent. Service was a bit slow, but still friendly and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will be sure to return.

Zefferelli's Spaghetti Joint1136 Robson Street, Vancouver
A decent experience
Submitted Friday, January 5, 2007 - 10:42pm [Dine in]

My sisters and I went to Zefferelli's on Thursday night and made a reservation beforehand. Turns out one wasn't needed as the restaurant was less than half-full. Atmosphere is okay, really just a bunch of tables and a few lights strung up at the windows. Our waiter was pleasant enough and knowledgeable, however he neglected to tell us the specials (we ended up having to ask ourselves) and he pretty much vanished after our food came.

Our food was good overall. I chose the fettucine with chicken, leeks and a tomato cream sauce. My one complaint was that the fettucine stuck together a bit, like it was overcooked. One of my sisters had the delicious chicken parmesan. The other sis had pasta with prawns in a pesto sauce which was quite tasty.

Would I visit again? Yes, probably. The food was good enough for a repeat experience.

Great pizza and spaghetti
Submitted Saturday, November 18, 2006 - 8:54pm [Dine in]

I went to Gigi's recently with my fiance and had the chicken and spaghetti special (he had pizza). I was impressed by the portion size and also the wonderful flavour of the BBQ chicken. There was so much food that we split it and I still had to take some home. Pizza was great too.

Service is pretty good. The food came quickly and the prices are also reasonable. If you are craving tasty Italian, in my opinion this place delivers the goods.

East Side Mario's2929 Barnet Hwy, #1050, Coquitlam
Food consistently under par
Submitted Saturday, November 18, 2006 - 8:19pm [Dine in]

I've been to Eastside Mario's three times now and the food seems to be getting worse and worse each time I go. First time my sister and I went, the place had just opened in Coquitlam and the food was pretty tasty (the risotto was quite good). But since then it seems that the entrees are bland and the bread that comes with the food is hard and unappealing. It is a bonus that the bread and salad come with the meal. Service is ok, but drinks usually aren't refilled and the wait times for the food can be quite long. Not sure if I'll go back for a fourth time.
