"..... where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came." That's what neighbourhood pubs are all about. I have eaten and "hung out" at the Beagle on 2 occasions, once in summer of 2008 and again in summer 2010. The food was more than acceptable on both occasions although the revised menu that came with the new facelife has a definite edge. The new decor is fitting for the establishment, prices are fair and the service is friendly and efficient. I had the opportunity to have a "close" look and I can assure readers and potential patrons that there is no visible reason to question food safety as indicated in another review below. As for the other review, this is afterall a neighbourhood pub. If patrons want a white linen experience, I can recommend a few alternatives. I have to wonder about the reviewer that had no nice thing to say but admittedly keeps going back. What's up with that?
The Lift offers great coffees and tasty breakfast and lunch fares as well as a relaxed comfortable atmosphere. It has recently undergone a facelift under the watchful eye of Chef James and is definitely worth visiting, and they use only local natural ingredients. I had the opportunity to visit there this summer and I would definitely recommend it to others. It will surely be on my list of places to visit the next time I am in BC.
I was in town from Halifax visiting my sons who treated me to dinner at Rodney's. I loved it! The food was great and the dining experience was fun as well as tasty. The ambience made me feel right at home. The servers and bar staff seemed to genuinely like their jobs and they were entertaining to watch. I ate at many great places while visiting BC this summer (2010) and Rodney's rates among those at the top without a doubt.
