Yummy food and great specials!

I have been here a few times since this place is near my home and have had some amazing experiences and some decent ones but the food has always been delicious. Their dishes suit a sophisticated palette but sometimes their service does not. As a whole though I am very pleased to live so close by this place. The nights when they have pasta, appy and a glass of wine for one price is a great deal.

You'll leave smelling like a campfire...

Honestly was really disappointed by this place. People had talked it up and in the end it was super overpriced pizza in an improperly ventilated and kitschy space. I honestly think the contractor that built their woodfire oven didn't do it to code because I smelled so much like smoke when I left I felt dizzy from it.

To top it all off the pizza was nothing to write home about... I found it dry and it lacked toppings. I'll take an Earl's pizza for half the price any day!

It's like Miku...but with terrible service, poorer quality food and yaletown haughtiness. Stay away!

Went here with four people and the bill came to over $400... which I am fine with paying every now and then; however the food here is only slightly above regular sushi fare and the service was very poor. Let's start with the food.

Several of the roles are slightly more interesting than what you find at a typical sushi restaurant given that they are seared or heated up with a blow torch but I have been to their sister restaurant Miku and somehow the exact same roll tasted way better at Miku. Additionally, I feel that their sashimi and nigiri platters were overpriced as you can get the exact same thing and same quality at other establishments in Vancouver for half the price.

In regards to service, we had an eight o'clock reservation yesterday and they didn't seat us until half an hour later. The hostesses really need to get it together--when we arrived early for our reservations they told us to come back in ten minutes and yet didn't seat us until 40 minutes later with no apology. When I inquired about the waitress simply said "300 people came in one hour!"--well that may be so but that's why people book reservations... Additionally throughout the meal the waitstaff stumbled over explaining what was in the dishes and presented excuse after excuse "sorry--we just switched the fall menu etc". I can forgive some missteps but it was just everything taken in combination that made for a pretty underwhelming dining experience. At least my personal company kept the dinner from being a total disaster.

In the end I was incredibly embarrassed that I suggested this place to my friends as we are accustomed to much better service and value.

My favourite sushi place in the area.

Was taken here by a co-worker and was very surprised that such a gem was around the corner from our office!

They have lots of great lunch specials, it's clean and the service is fast and polite--miles above typical sushi restaurant service.

I have been there twice and I have been impressed by their presentation and quality of food. I hope this place keeps up the good work.

I didn't like Indian food before I tried this place...
Submitted Monday, February 28, 2011 - 10:34pm [Dine in]

I honestly could not stand Indian food before I was dragged here by a few co-workers. I had the lunch special that day--butter chicken, tons of naan and palak paneer and I was completely blown away. After that I was hooked and I probably went at least once a month for a long period of time. I only stopped going so frequently because I changed jobs and it's very out of the way for me now.

I would highly recommend this place...the naan is tangy and delicious! Service is what you would expect for a small hole in the wall type of place.

Love this place!

I am very picky when it comes to sushi. The place needs to be clean, the food fresh and it's nice when the cook is actually japanese. Well you get all of the above with this place. It also happens to be steps away from my door as well. It's somewhat annoying that they are not open on Mondays and Sunday but it seems like it's a very small, family-run place...so good for them for taking some time off!

I definitely think it's the best sushi for miles and you would never expect it in such a low profile area.

Highly recommended.

Very underwhelmed...
Submitted Monday, February 28, 2011 - 10:22pm [Dine in]

My brother and I were looking to grab a quick bite and saw this place on the way home. It stood out a bit from the typical asian fare all along Kingsway so we decided to try it.

I have to say that besides the ambience--kind of reminds me of a place found on main or commercial--it was pretty disappointing. I was thinking about ordering fries with my dish but the server assured me that sharing with my brother was probably a better option due to their large portions. Well, that was definitely not the case. The portions were extremely small--a lot less fries than your typical restaurant.

I order a salad and their seafood special. Honestly I could hardly believe it when they served it to me--it was a half of a hamburger bun in a ramekin with a oyster motoyaki type mix on top of it. Then it was smothered with cheese. It was a greasy mess. My salad was small but decent to go with. My brother did not particularly enjoy his burger either.

We were probably there for 20-30 minutes. It was one of those meals you wish you could take back so you could go eat something better!
