Great Bridesmaids Brunch
Submitted Wednesday, September 3, 2008 - 5:14pm [Dine in]

I took my 3 bridesmaids, Mom and Step Mom to Glowbal on a Saturday morning in June. I made a reservation in advance and we got a gorgeous round table on the outdoor, heated patio. I loved the ambiance! I had a very stressful, pre-wedding morning and after an hour of brunch with my girls at Glowbal, everything was fine in this bride's world again.

The complimentary banana bread was a wonderful touch! So delicious and warm - the butter was amazing. Coffee was great and refilled many times. I ordered the Eggs benedict with crab, hashbrowns and it came with a side salad. Very good! Our server did a good job but was not really memorable. Everyone enjoyed our meal together.

I don't really understand how this place has bad reviews below - we had a wonderful time and I will return.

Been Twice and Will Return
Submitted Tuesday, August 5, 2008 - 5:23pm [Dine in]

I have been to the Blue Canoe twice and will return. Both experiences were positive. The first time was with a group of girlfriends for lunch on a Friday. We had a reservation, luckily, and were seated right away at a gorgeous booth inside. I love the ambiance and decor - it is so much more contemporary than other Steveston restaurants and I hope more start to look and feel like this.

All the girls ordered something different and everyone enjoyed their meals. We started off with some appetizers - calamari was great and different that I am used to(not as greasy). The corn bread was very good as well. I had the avocado and crab sandwich, which was delicious (albeit a bit small looking but I was quite satisfied at the end). Others ordered yummy entree salads and someone got a hamburger which was just okay. Service was good.

The second trip was with my husband. We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. Got the calamari again, and the crab sandwich because I liked it so much last time. Hubby had the halibut and chips. He enjoyed it but thought it was a bit too expensive for what you received and for being on a lunch menu.

Only negatives I noticed both times were that the kitchen was a bit slow and that the 45 min to 1hr wait for a table seemed unnecessary (many were open but they must have been understaffed). I think that both of these problems can be fixed with a bit more experience.

Overall, good experience and will return!

Best Sushi in Richmond
Submitted Friday, January 18, 2008 - 12:11pm [Dine in]

This is the best sushi place in Richmond. Very good quality, delicious food, and I'm picky about my sushi! Japanese owners and staff. Great ambiance, friendly people, good neighbourhood. Prices are decent and the menu has lots of options, even for those who don't like raw fish. I would suggest this restaurant to anyone.

Best sushi experiance I've ever had.

I LOVE THIS RESTAURANT! Best sushi restuarant I've been to, and I've been around. Sachi sushi in Whistler is awesome, but more expensive so this is now my favourite. You get way better service and atmosphere than your regular sushi joint for only about 50 cents more per roll. The presentation is exquisite! The service and plating makes you feel important. None of this plastic dishware and wood chopsticks. You get real ceramic plates with beautiful designs and real glass glasses. Really trendy, modern decor, friendly staff (we were sent a complimentary appetizer, the mackeral which was DELICIOUS). The rolls are huge! and well made. My regular sushi complaint is about the tuna rolls, when you get a piece of tuna roll that either a) wasn't rolled properly and you left with a huge chunck of seaweed in your mouth after chewing, and b) when you have to chew your tuna, it should just melt in your mouth.... The tekka maki at Black Tuna just MELTED in my mouth. DELICIOUS! My friend says she doesn't like tuna rolls, but I made her try this one and she LOVED it! Just goes to show how amazing this restaurant is. You should go.

I really love the look and feel of this place. The decor is amazing and keeps you interested. My boyfriend and I ordered cocktails, for $7.50 a pop, and then shared the masala fries, which were presented really wonderfully and tasted excellent, and the peanut chicken skewers, which were $10 for 4 skewers about 4 inches long each. Service was good, nothing special. I really didn't like my cocktail, can't remember the name, some banana thing, but it was for sure NOT worth $7.50! The food was excellent but again, for 2 appys and drinks ringing in at 40 dollars and not leaving full, I wouldn't come here when I'm hungry. Unless of course you have that kinda money to spend..

After reno.. I like the old Bridges better
Submitted Tuesday, August 30, 2005 - 1:09pm [Dine in]

The old bridges is better. The new decor, new uniforms, and new menus is too casual for such an expensive place. I paid way too much $ for such a small, tasteless entree. I wont be going back for a while...

A great place!

haha, although I agree about the ice water thing, as it is a major issue with me, I found the food delicious and the service good. I love the look of the place, funky, retro but classy. I took 3 of my friends there for lunch and everyone was happy with their meal. I love that it's healthy but it tastes so good too. It makes eating healthy enjoyable rather than unsatisffying. I really like Tomato, and am taking myself and 7 friends there tonight for dinner. As you can see, I would definitly recommend it.

I've been to this restuarant twice now. 1st time I got take out hummus, which is sooo cheap and you get so much!!! But as I was about pay the cook said "Hold on, that isn't any good. I just tasted it and I think it's gone bad. I'll make you something else" I was happy that he didn't let me leave with nasty food, but disappointed that I was almost out the door... and that now I had to wait longer. He made me something else.. I dont know what it was called but it tasted almost like hummus and was DELICIOUS!!! I ate it on the bus ride home and oh my god the people around me probably thought I had been starved for days before! 2nd visit- my friend and I went in for lunch. Again, I was really happy with the food, delicious! And the portion sizes are HUGE! But I was disapointed with the service. I know it's a laid back sorta place, but I think they are too laid back with their customers. Service takes a long time, but you forget about it when your food arives!

Not up to expectations
Submitted Tuesday, August 30, 2005 - 12:42pm [Dine in]

I expected more from the buzz I've hear about this restaurant. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with avacado salsa and jalapeno cheese, it was pretty good! I really liked the mixed greens salad and the dressing was awesome. Service was pretty good, although 2 or 3 servers were helping me, I found that a bit odd? As far as the atmosphere, the grudgy and dark walls, the bizarre artwork, it isn't my thing. Even with the huge windows I just found it unnecessarily dark inside. I'll go back, but I wouldn't rave about The Locus.
