Meh overall
Submitted Thursday, August 19, 2010 - 9:39am [Dine in]

Menu items were very pricy for what you get. Appetizers, had the hearts of romaine, a dozen oysters, muscles and clams. Romaine was $12 for that you get about $0.50 worth from your local supermarket and it's topped with a bit of roasted garlic, not horrible but horrible value definitely, muscles and clams tasted like chicken not my taste, didn't like. Oysters, server didn't introduce which was which type of oyster, $40 for a dozen "miscellaneous" oysters just don't bother.

Entree items were much better ranging from $25-45 tried a t-bone, halibut, duck, and lamb rack. All solid choices but nothing more. Everyone was still hungry after appetizers and desserts.

Desserts were good, tried the cheesecake and a napoleon. although at $12 each you could definitely do better both in quantity and taste.

But worst of all was the service, food took forever to arrive, server brought us ketchup 10 minutes after fries arrived and were all gone, drinks were never refilled and when she offered, took another 10 minutes.

Overall I have to say the only reason to be there is for the view, sun setting is absolutely beautiful. But if you can do without the view or find alternatives, just avoid this place.

Not as great...
Submitted Sunday, March 14, 2010 - 8:57pm [Dine in]

Always drove by this place and finally got a chance to try it tonight.
ordered the escargot and the fettucine alfredo.
The escargot came out in a plate with a thick red sauce like a chef boyardee ravioli can
and they were the size of little button mushrooms and tasted like them too. Somewhat bland
and not worth the $7 price tag. I know many places in this city that offer a much better tasting
escargot for a similar price,
Bread however was excellent as I expected.

Fettucine alfredo, very bland and tasteless but left an oily feeling in my mouth, that's all I have to say.

service was average. food took a long time but I didn't mind and the place was relatively empty on a sunday night, server didn't make visits although thats sort of how i'd like it.
overall dinner was average but wasn't worth the >$20 per person price. there are certainly much better italian restaurants within a 10 minute drive from here.

Place stinks... Literally!
Submitted Friday, July 10, 2009 - 1:50pm [Dine in]

Once you walk in it's hard to ignore the smell of the place, It's just disgusting and it doesn't fade even as you leave.
Food was pretty good, had beef noodles, tried the pork hock, and a few others. Bubble tea was made with fresh strawberries :) but wasn't cold enough.
I would really come back here but I just can't stand the smell

Ambiance is not that great...
Submitted Friday, July 10, 2009 - 1:47pm [Dine in]

First impressions were bad, I walked in and the host asked me who I was and whether I had reservations and yelled in Mandarin at me... :( she brought us our tea angrily and sorta slammed them on the table. Service was not that great, they didn't have enough people so i can understand. Place was pretty packed, and much bigger than i thought it was, Food was pretty good and what you'd expect from a shanghai place at this price, there are better in richmond though. Decor was decent but the place was too noisy.

Amazing food
Submitted Tuesday, June 2, 2009 - 4:50pm [Dine in]

been waiting a long time to come here, very close to my house, it's a well kept secret, but reservations are a must.

Everything we ordered was amazing, daily soup was uber flavorful and mussels were gigantic. Even the simple salad was impressive, best dressing ever. Main courses were all great, Pastas are very flavorful, fish wasn't that amazing but everything else was delciious. Tiramisu is also amazing, and even these "italian donuts" that we ordered that i wanted to hate, because they look like the ones they have at playland, were oh so delicious, but not worth the $7, but tiramisu is a must have.

Service was nothing out of the ordinary, and general ambiance is pleasant but nothing special.

Worth the wait?
Submitted Saturday, May 30, 2009 - 9:33pm [Dine in]

I'm a regular here and come at least once a month.
But every time expect to wait at least half an hour.
I love the box sushi, philadelphia, and a number of other rolls.
Prices are reasonable but not outstanding value.
Deserts are a no no however, green tea cheese cake was bland.
Lineups are uncomfortably long and cramped. Hate the feeling of being watched while you eat.
So as good as the food goes, this restaurant will never get a 5 star rating from me.

Disappointing hainanese chicken
Submitted Saturday, May 30, 2009 - 7:39pm [Dine in]

This is not my first time here.
I've been here before and felt that their set meals were solid and I didn't mind the self pick 3 items menu.
However, yesterday I wasn't very hungry so I decided to go for a hainanese chicken. They had several choices and I picked the smallest one which was already $10, and I was already second guessing myself. When the chicken came, it tasted just like regular free range chicken from any other chinese restaurant, and the rice was regular plain white rice. Vegetables that came with the dish were very crunchy. and the borscht soup was what you'd expect.

I knew that this place wasn't the best or something, but thought i'd take a risk. Hugely disappointed.

Never going back
Submitted Saturday, May 30, 2009 - 7:35pm [Dine in]

So last saturday night, Felt bored and wanted to go for japanese at richmond, place was packed so we decided to go here instead, just to try.
Menu felt really complicated and as you walk in seeing only 5 people seated in such a huge restaurant on a saturday night worries you.
There's clearly more people on staff than customers.
Service wasn't enthusiastic and quiet. However when all the server ladies walk to the back to the kitchen, they're all having a loud conversation in vietnamese.
Soup didn't seem strong enough, and first time I didn't like a vietnamese meatball. Possibly one of the only places you can go wrong for pho.
Surprised they've stayed open for so long.

*also heard a story that they reuse their soups after customers are done with them...

one of the best in the area but worst overall
Submitted Wednesday, September 24, 2008 - 9:50pm [Dine in]

The only reason this place is so popular is that people who live in kerrisdale don't have much choice when it comes to chinese food, the place is dirty and smells. The decor is gross and the chairs are always disgusting, not brave enough to look under the table. This place represents the worst of chinese restaurants in vancouver, There is a very industrial feel to the food, and seems like a place for a company lunch and not a family dinner. The overall service is acceptable but food tastes oily and dirty. I can't believe the popularity of this place especially on weekends, there is a disgusting walk up the stairs or the dirty old elevator. The parking lot only has about 12 stalls and isn't enough, You'll probably have to park in london drugs lot for free parking.

I love this place! the renovation is very modern although doesn't show any signs as to what kind of restaurant it might be. Walk up the stairs may be difficult for older diners, but worth it. Service is very friendly. Food is fat but yummy, and drinks menu is great too. The place feels clean and is located in a very convenient part of town. Parking is difficult or expensive, which is the biggest problem.

Matsuyama one of my favourites
Submitted Wednesday, September 24, 2008 - 9:25pm [Dine in]

One of my favourite sushi places in lower mainland, Matsuyama is an extremely affordable place to eat with very good sushi. Although place feels somewhat dirty and floors are sticky, the lighting is great and has a North American Japanese restaurant feel. And the service is friendly, Has an X factor that just keeps me coming back, not quite sure what though. Worth trying and finding out.

Although a dirty feeling, there is a friendly atmosphere, and the food is very consistent, although not the best. Better than food court but not as great as mainstream restaurants, this little restaurant in a conspicuous part of town with few chinese restaurants, is a cozy place to dine. Parking is easy, although the new addition of Meinhardt will mean more cars it shouldn't be hard to find a spot, and bus stops all around, on arbutus and 16th. Food tastes oily but has a classic chinatown character to it, I would recommend my friends to eat here although i wouldn't treat them to dinner here. Price is Great and food tastes good but unhealthy, worth trying and take out/delivery is a great option if you don't want to cook but don't like the dirty atmosphere

Submitted Wednesday, September 24, 2008 - 9:18pm [Dine in]

One of the best chinese restaurants in the lower mainland with outstanding consistency of quality. Sea Harbour is one of those restaurants that are comfortably uncomfortable, you don't mind the upper middle class feel and the BMWs and Mercedes in the parking lot aren't intimidating. Parking is difficult on weekends but is acceptable. The place feels clean and modern without trying to hard. The Number 1 buns really are delicious and don't hesitate to ask the waiter for recommendations, Worth the money if you don't eat there every day.

Very affordable food that beats home cooking. May not be the best tasting chinese restaurant out there, but offers steady quality of food, at extremely cheap prices at around $10 per person, on weekdays it's very convenient because of parking but sunday morning dim sum is extremely busy. The overall mood isn't great, not the most comfortable environment and decor just doesn't try, and although not exactly dirty, you always get the feel that its not quite up there with the big name restaurants.

Comfort food is a great way to describe what you get for at Burgoo Bistro. Very hearty choices make you feel at home. The simple dishes are very satisfying and beat cooking at home. The overall ambiance is also very comfortable, and doesn't try too hard, it's dark but not too dark and a very cozy restaurant. Value for money is great too, and selection is great. Must Try!

Very nice decor and environment, however pricing on menu is expensive, and including tips and a delicious milkshake your meal will come to more than 15$ per person, which I believe for a place like Moderne just doesn't feel right, For that kind of money there are many better places to eat, although it has a very nice retro feel, the food definitely doesn't have a retro price tag.
