My favourite izakaya
Submitted Tuesday, June 30, 2009 - 10:45pm [Dine in]

I love qyoza king! its one,if not my favorite japanese restaurant in vancouver. I have late night cravings and i'm so happy that they are open late...everyday! i always try something new, specially when they have specials. but i always have to get their Tofu Salad and salmon sashimi. It is sooooooo good. it is a little bit of a wait, no surprise there. But the servers are always so nice and the food is well worth the wait.

This little 20 seat restaurant gave me and my husband such an incredible meal. although very similar to a restaurant on 4th, we were later informed that this was the original one.
I had the special, it was fresh seafood in a light tomato sauce. Amazing.
My hubby had the steak that was tender and so flavorful. We obviously had to get dessert and we're so glad we did! They had one of the best tiramisu in the city and these little donuts were just so light and delicious.
The place is quite small, but felt nice and intimate. Our server, was very familiar with all the wines and described the food very well.
We ordered a bottle of wine and the higher priced items, but it was definitely worth it. They also had, average priced items, like pastas that we'll definitely try the next time .

more like circus..and not in a good way.

Granville wouldn't be the first place i would go to for good food. there's a few, but majority its more a place for clubbing. but i went here with a few girlfriends. The room was really oddly designed, roman and very godly like. you can tell they spent money, but obviously lack of taste. and the music, house music, just didn't feel like the right ambiance for us.
our server was nice and had great knowledge of the food and wine. But the guy in the tie, i'm guess the GM, just talked too much, seemed like that was all he was doing that night too. Surprisingly, the food was good. didn't match the restaurant because it seemed more sophisticated and seemed like they have a very good chef but holding back.
overall, very very confused restaurant but tasty menu.

Cool Place

Don't know much about Latin food so I had nothing to compare it too. But I wouldn't call this place authentic, nevertheless it was good food and the dishes were fun and exciting. Our server was very entertaining and he made our night enjoyable. A vast selection on wine and cocktails, and of course tequila. I would recommended this place for a fun and exciting night out with friends. Cool vibe.

Great Brunch
Submitted Saturday, January 24, 2009 - 7:01pm [Dine in]

Had brunch here and I was pretty impressed. The room was vibrant and cool. Really modern. I don't often talk about bathrooms when it comes to restaurants, but this one was worth mentioning, really sexy bathroom, like the rest of the restaurant. Our server seemed a little inexperience, but otherwise very attentive.
I had the Lobster Eggs Benedict, sounds good?Tastes even better. Price point is quite up there, but for a quality brunch, it was worth it. I have yet to try their dinner, I'm sure it won't disappoint.

Great Thai Meal
Submitted Saturday, January 24, 2009 - 6:52pm [Dine in]

I've been here a couple of times before, I always loved it. It was one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the city. Clean and classy decor, nice ambiance. The service was great, they knew me by name by second visit. Great standards. The food was something I often craved and came back for. Delicious curries and the Pad Thai was very authentic. Good selection of wine and beer. Recently came back and had a different menu. Smaller than before and a lot changes, but had a great meal. I ordered the Duck and it was cooked perfectly and the Panang sauce was very tasty. Looking at the prices they were pretty reasonable, but wished the portions were a little bigger. It would match the prices more. No complaint about the service, but wished it was more personable. Wine and beer selections was small, but matched well with Thai cuisine. At the end of the meal, It was very satisfying and enjoyed it very much. Will be back again.

Fantastic Place for a Dinner
Submitted Saturday, January 24, 2009 - 6:16pm [Dine in]

The wait is definitely worth it. I'm happy there's a place like this in the neighbourhood, its about time! A different take on what I usually know of French cuisine, it a little bit more rustic and home-style, which i love. I enjoyed our cheese place and the chocolate mousse is something I would come back for. I had the duck for my main and it was mouth watering. The only dish i was disappointed in was the mussels. I did not like the sauce, it was a bit bland. Besides the food, the best part was the bill at the end. Great value. The portions were generous and it was very flavourful. The service was quite fast for me and very attentive. I love the room, it was casual yet a great place to take a date. Can't wait to go back again.

memorable meal
Submitted Saturday, January 24, 2009 - 5:57pm [Dine in]

I've never been to Italy, but I can say that this meal is probably the closest thing to being in a real Italian restaurant in Italy, and its right here in our city. It was simple and fresh. Clean flavours. The pasta was unlike anything I've ever had. The fish was cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. It was a fantastic meal. Yes, you do have to pay a little more, but its a lot cheaper than taking a vacation to Italy! The room was very tiny, but it felt right. Definitely going back for a special occasion there.

good spot on main st.
Submitted Wednesday, January 21, 2009 - 10:39pm [Dine in]

Main st. is full of great, small, cozy restaurants, and crave is one to check out The room is a little tight, if it was a tad bigger, i would have liked it a little more. Nevertheless, i had the tempura roll and the steak, and i was stuffed and satisfied. the food is consistent and is a great alternative to those big chain restaurants. feels a little bit more intimate, good size portions and flavourful.Servers could be more attentive. It was pretty busy when we went. A great neighborhood spot.

almost perfect

I love finding a restaurant, hearing so much about it, expectations are high and getting more than you expected.
Food was fantastic. Whether it was a simple, poutine, or their maple glazed pork belly, it was incredible. The texture, flavour, and the presentation, just perfection.
The service was friendly and attentive, great knowledge of the food and wine. Even entertained us a few jokes, it was a good time.
Really funky and cool room. it was a great night out. Prices are up there a little bit. i would probably be go there more often if i could afford it. But it was more than worth it. The quality and flavours is almost priceless. Will be back again.

Charm Modern Thai and Bar1269 Hamilton Street, Vancouver
boring
Submitted Wednesday, January 21, 2009 - 1:33pm [Dine in]

I had dinner here just a few weeks ago and my experience wasn't too bad or good. Expectations was high, since it was recommended by a friend who said they had a great time. I had an opposite experience. Reading their website, I was expecting a big wow from the ambiance, food, and service, and I was far from being even satisfied or wowed. We ordered a few entree, the typical chicken satay was just that typical. The duck confit spring rolls were okay, but its not a thai dish, and didn't execute a good duck confit. The curries were good, you can't really go wrong with it. But other dishes that was off the chart, like a green tea chicken? just plain weird. there's a difference between being innovative, but you want the food to taste good and to be what it is saying it was. i think this restaurant is quite confused.
The service was not attentive or "charming" at all and didn't seem to have a good sense of knowledge about the food or the restaurant. Calling itself a lounge, we had expected great cocktails, and it was watered down juice with alcohol.
the decor, it was nice, but nothing too exciting. Spending over $100 for four people, not worth it. Unless they make some changes, i will not be coming back. a waste of time and money.
