Amelia Restaurant640 12th Street, New Westminster
Like homemade, in a homley establishment with great value and friendly service.
Submitted Thursday, September 9, 2010 - 1:39pm [Dine in]

I heard good things about Amelia Restaurant so i decided to check it out. We went for breakfast. There is no parking so you have to park on the street or pay the meter. The place looks very old, and when you enter it smells very old inside. The decor is dated, it's like being in someone's home. Service was friendly and prompt. I ordered the #5 veggie omelet with pan fried potatoes and toast. It was a fair portion and it tasted pretty good although a little under-seasoned. I usually like the food to be pre-seasoned. You shouldn't have to add anything like salt or pepper. But i understand they cook for a variety of diets and tastes and this is the norm for practically every restaurant out there except the better ones. For 5.75 it was a great deal. My partner ordered buttermilk pancakes, i guess you can't go wrong for 4.95. She did say it was kind of soggy and doughy as opposed to fluffy and light. I rated a mediocre for food because it wasn't really anything special, it was just ok because of lack of seasoning. But i think i would return here, the value and service make up for the shortfalls. I would pick this place over Denny's. I am looking forward to trying their Curry Laksa and Malaysian fried rice in the future.

The best Pizza's and Calzones in Merrit, B.C.
Submitted Sunday, August 29, 2010 - 12:20pm [Dine in]

OMG! This is a little gem in the middle of nowhere. I have heard good things about this little pizza joint in Merrit, B.C. So i decided to check it out and i was not disappointed. I was with a large group we all ordered Calzones which is just a pizza folded in half. They are huge, and they are really good. Definitly have to go back there. If you are passing Merrit, you have to stop by this little place.

Sun Gong Chinese Restaurant504 Clarke Road, #A, Coquitlam
Sun Gong, not what they used to be.
Submitted Monday, June 14, 2010 - 8:23pm [Dine in]

I have been ordering take out and delivery from Sun Gong for maybe the last ten years. They used to be the best in town, but i'm sorry to say that is no longer true. It's maybe the worst in town now. The food used to be outstanding, but now it's just ok. The service (delivery, phone ettiquette) was the usual, now it needs some serious attention, i feel like i am being barked at when i place an order. Value is still ok, but considering the amount of times they substitute ingredients, this brings the value down.
I know this is a take out restaurant, and there really isn't much to be said about the cleanliness of the place. have you seen the place lately? If you saw the kitchen you would not be ordering from there anymore. I swear i could see cockroaches peaking out from the corners. It is a total pig stye. I can't beleive they are even still operating. Have they had a health inspection lately? I was disgusted that they serve food to the public out of that place. Shut it down!

Capilano Sushi1240 Marine Drive, North Vancouver
Cheap sushi with bad service
Submitted Tuesday, April 13, 2010 - 10:17pm [Dine in]

i frequent Capilano Sushi for lunch on a regular basis. Mostly because the price is very reasonable and it beats a burger and fries any day of the week. I usually get take out and the orders are usually ready in about 10 minutes if they aren't too busy. But i always seem to get really weird looks when i pick up my food. They are quite rude. Other Japanese restaurants i have been to the people are very polite and friendly. But not this place. Have a shot of Saki and take a chill pill or something, a smile wouldn't hurt anyone. Tempura is a little greasy and the rice from Chicken teriyaki dish tasted funny on a few occasions.

Keep on goin
Submitted Monday, March 29, 2010 - 10:29pm [Take-out]

I have driven by this place a few times and decided to try it. The woman serving me was very pleasant. I ordered some take out hot wings. The lady there told me it will take baout 15 minutes since they make everything fresh. It felt like i was in for a treat. So i took em home and tried some. The wings were way too salty and tasted stale. They were also quite rubbery. I thought the regular chicken would be better which i havn't tried yet. BUt after that experience, i think i will just keep on going. I noticed someone else had the same comment about the chicken, i wonder if they change their oil regularly.

How does Boston Pizza stay in business?
Submitted Saturday, March 27, 2010 - 3:58pm [Dine in]

I have been to this Boston Pizza at Metrotown several times and each time i have been disappointed with the food. Why do i keep going back? Because some friends like going there, it's open late, they serve booze until 2 am. No wonder the place is always full of drunks stumbling in from a night of drinking. No complaints there. The service was quite relaxed. The food is gawdawful. I stay away from the pizza and pasta. They are extremly cheap with the toppings on pizza and the pasta has no flavour. So i order chicken strips, can't go wrong there i'm thinking. Who could screw up chicken strips. WRONG! Chicken strips were made fresh, but they were dry. The best thing about the Boston Pizza dining experience was the drinks. Get really really drunk and maybe you won't notice how bad their food is. Oh the water was really good, 10/10 on that one! -3/10 on the food. Try your luck at McD's instead.

Mr. Pickwick's Fish & Chips1007 Denman Street, Vancouver
The best fish 'n chips on Denman
Submitted Saturday, March 27, 2010 - 3:42pm [Dine in]

I don't think there are any other Fish 'n Chip restaurants on Denman or am i wrong? I heard so many great things about the fish and chips at Mr. PickWicks i had to try it since i love fish'n chips and credit myself as being somewhat of a fish'n chip connoiseur. The service is very good, very friendly people working there. The price was not so friendly to my wallet. I'm sorry to say I found the food to be mediocre at best. The fish was cooked well, but i found the batter to be lacking flavour. I ordered halibut and chips. The chips were good, but i was unable to satisfy my fish'n chip needs because i was fish hungry. I found the fish portion to be kind of small. C-Lovers and Cockney kings has one up on Pickwicks in my book.

Donair Affair2540 Mary Hill Road, #105, Port Coquitlam
Donair affair rocks!
Submitted Saturday, March 27, 2010 - 3:05pm [Dine in]

I have been going this this little Donair shop for many years. When i lived in Maple Ridge, i would drive all the way to Poco just for the Donair. The best chicken donair in town by far. The lamb is pretty good too. Carribean and lebanese are my favorite flavours. Fresh ingredients, and a generous portion of meat with tasty sauces to tantalize your taste buds. Yes it can be quite messy to eat so you will need some extra napkins, but it's worth it.

Church's Chicken1470 Prairie Avenue, Port Coquitlam
The best Church's chicken location
Submitted Saturday, March 27, 2010 - 2:51pm [Dine in]

I have been frequenting many Church's chicken establishments in the lower mainland for several years and this Poco location far exceeds the other places in the service category. The chicken is very good, other locations have had dried out chicken, but this location is very consistent. The coleslaw could use some work. The mini chicken burgers are kinda ridiculous. They occasionaly give me an extra piece of chicken, which is nice.

This is the best pizza in town
Submitted Saturday, March 27, 2010 - 2:40pm [Dine in]

A great little pizzaria with amazing pizzas. Their pizzas are healthy and hearty, they don't go cheap on the toppings like so many other pizza joints. The generous portions are so big i would be amazed if someone could eat 3 slices. Two slices and i am stuffed to the hilt. They have very nice desserts and the service is friendly. You definitly must try their pizza! You will be amazed.

Me-N-Ed's Pizza Parlor7110 Hall Ave, Burnaby
I was a little disappointed
Submitted Saturday, March 27, 2010 - 2:26pm [Dine in]

I've always enjoyed Me-N Eds pizzas for years. But i was a little disappointed at the last pizza i had. It wasn't quite up to the usual Me-N-Eds quality and taste that i am used to. I didn't mind paying the huge price tag for the quality, but not so much anymore. Their bead sticks were awful and the pizza crust was burnt and fell apart while biting into it.

Very good vietnamese food
Submitted Saturday, March 27, 2010 - 2:18pm [Dine in]

This little dive packs alot of flavour in their dishes. Their food is very good, fresh ingredients with great flavours. The place looks like a total dive, but i have seen worse. The service is super fast, but the servers could use some lessons in manners and etiquette. When you walk in, the vietnamese lady barks at you, How many! You sit here, ready to order! It's actually kinda funny to see how blunt they are. No hellos, smiles, goodbyes or nothing. Just fast service and great food at an affordable price. They are open late aswell. Great soup for hangovers.
