I don't know how they stay in business.
Submitted Monday, July 25, 2016 - 9:03pm [Dine in]

I was at Town Hall for the first time for a fundraiser. The place is pretty nice, wait staff if superb, very friendly and able to keep us happy despite the slow service. We waited almost 2 hours for a burger and fries. It wasn't worth the wait either, the burger was pretty tastless although it looked good. Lacked seasoning. I don't know if the quality suffered because it was a fundraiser night or if they just don't know how to makes burgers and fries. I had fun there because I was with some pretty cool friends. But I don't think i would go back there.

Fat burger Delivers
Submitted Sunday, April 24, 2016 - 5:50pm [Dine in]

Fat burger has great burgers. I have tried it a few times. The kids meals are not too bad value, about $4.50 for a kids meal and the kids seem to like the burgers. The all day breakfast is a pretty good deal. The burgers are very good! I would commend leaving a tip, if you don't leave a tip you are guaranteed to be disappointed. I found this out on my first visit. The burger I had ordered, the sauce that was supposed to be on it was almost non- existant. I did ask for more sauce afterwards. After you order you pay for your order and if you leave a tip, the cashier will announce in the kitchen, fat tip. It made me really question this "fat tip" call out when you leave a tip. What if you don't leave a tip? Should you maybe keep one eye on the kitchen staff as they are preparing your meal? I don't know, it just doesn't seem right. Usually I tip based on service. Here you have to tip to get service. I think I will tip just to stay safe. I don't go here too often as$10 for 1 burger is pretty steep,
I tried the Buffalo Wings for the first time. I shuttered at the price. $13.50 for 10 wings. I don't think I will be coming back here for wings. They were very good, but wow, this was a total rip off.
Despite the high prices, the place is still quite busy, people do love Fatburger.
Just wondering what experiences others have had who did not tip. Write a review.
Over all I liked the place and will go back, just not too often.
Cheers !

Overall wasn't bad, just ok.

I go to WS quite often, one of my wife's favorites and my kids enjoy pirate paks. My wife ordered a mac and cheese burger and i got fish tacos. She absolutely loved the burger. Looks like they got their burgers down. My fish tacos left more to be desired. There is nothing I could point my finger to and say this was bad. It was just the over all quality of the dish. When you walk out of there you feel somewhat ripped off. I know I can do fish tacos myself better than this Maple Ridge location did it. I know WS does burgers, breakfast and the usual fair pretty well. I think the price of burgers is a little on the high side, but it's alright. Now I am somewhat of a home chef/foodie. I like to research recipes and make my own things at home. When I eat at certain establishments I find I am disappointed quite often. It's like this chef/ cook who prepared this meal for me does not have the same standards as I do. I guess that is why I am usually disappointed at most restaurants. I don't like to be the guy who only writes reveiws when he has a bad experience. I like to be totally fair and unbiased. If it's good I'll tell you so. So white spot in general is great for burgers, fries and breakfast. But it's hit and miss on other menu items.
Service was good overall.

Somwhat disappointed
Submitted Tuesday, February 23, 2016 - 11:10pm [Dine in]

Drove down to Steveston with my family to spend the day there. I wasnt planning on eating there, but why not grab some fish 'n chips because the kids were hungry. So we decided on the Shady Island. We got a table right away despite how busy they were. We ordered the seafood platter for 2. It comes with Kalamari, 3 peuces of fish Cod, Salmon and Halibut. The fish and chips were good. The calamari was rubbery and not seasoned well. It was a very poor job with the batter not covering the majority ofbthr squid. The kids just ate fries and a bit of fish. It was $45 for thr platter, the bill totalled $58 with drinks. We left hungry. Im not very impressed, i dont think i would go back here. Its like a tourist trap restaurant. People just go for the novelty.
Still searching for a good fair priced restaurant in Steveston. Shouldnt the fish be cheaper here becsuse they are right next to the fishermans wharf?? I dont get it.
We had to stop off somewhere else for a bite. This place is not bad, but i think i will pick another spot in the future.

Witchcraft Beer Market and Bistro22648 Dewdney Trunk Rd, Maple Ridge
Great food and brew
Submitted Monday, December 21, 2015 - 8:44pm [Dine in]

I tried the new Witchcraft Bistro in Maple Ridge. Formerly the Witch or Witch of Endor. The place looks real neat inside. Decorated with old doors and such give it kind of a rustic look.
We ordered wings, Pizza and Beef dip. It was all very good with Kettle cooked chips. I was impressed. The maple bourbon wings were spectacular. Definitly not your average pub-style wings. So delicious, cooked to perfection. Only thing is they didn't give enough wings. Pizza was totally fresh tasting, they did emphasize how they like to keep everything as local as possible right down to the flour in the dough. Beef dip was great, the portions are good size.
I tried several beers from some local crafts bewers. A fine selection. You can order the 5 beer sampler for around $11 to 15 as they do in other craft brew establishments. Fraser Valley IPA was my preferred taste for that day. The Mission Springs Lemon Ginger Radler was nice as well, refreshing and light.
My jaw dropped a little when i got the bill, But i think i will be back to try other stuff just not too too soon. Now i'm going to try and make that bourbon wing sauce.

I highly recommend this place if you are looking for something out of the ordinary. Cheers :)

My wife and i had a dinner date here. I thought over all it was a good experience. We ordered the dinner for two B.Miso soup, seafood salad, Salmon Oshi, salmon wave, special roll, teriyaki chicken or beef, and a dessert. It was pretty good value i guess. The food was absolutely delicious. Quite filling with the Asahi beer aswell. We couldn't finish the teriyaki portion. seafood salad was incredible, Salmon Oshi makes you say " Ohshi#" it was all very good, and somewhat unique. i would say a cut above the regular sushi joints. You have a choice of Green tea or mango ice cream in the end which i thought was a bit of a let-down, but refreshing non-the less. i was expecting some deep fried banana's or something more exotic.
Service was good but in my opinion lacking the added touch.
I would revisit this place for sure.

I order pizza from here quite often. They are good pizza's and have decent value. However on the last two times i noticed that when i eat the pizza i get this gritty sand pebble. You know when you have bit a piece of sand. It makes me question if they are washing veggies properly or practicing good cleanliness.

Submitted Thursday, February 26, 2015 - 7:01pm [Take-out]

I ordered take-out. 3 souvlaki dinners, one chicken, one beef and one lamb. It was very good and tasty. I like garlic, but i thought the Tzatziki was a little over board on the raw garlic. Everything else was good however the portions were a bit small for a greek restaurant. $15 for a dinner souvlaki i kind of expect to get a good size portion like Greek restaurants are so well known for. I would go back here, but not too soon or often. Its kinda of expensive.
The restaurant looks nice inside, i may decide to eat in , in future. Save up some money first though. ;)

The butter chicken pizza here is awsome. Other items are good too. Aloo tiki needs some work.
The service is horrible. I've ordered takeout from here 3 times and all three time the order was not correct, i had to wait a long time, the staff does not communicate with each other and the customer. No customer service skills.

I had lunch here the other day with a co-worker. It was the 3rd time eating here. The quality of the food has gone down hill, extremely poor. The fried rice was dry, the chicken in kung pao chicken tasted off. Not fresh at all. It wasn't this bad in the past. I compare this place to mall food court chinese food. The mall stuff is better. Very disappointed, i don't think i would eat here again. I thought it was supposed to be fresh fast gourmet, not even close.

We ordered a bunch of stuff bento box, kiwi roll, chicken karage, oysters, unagi, tako, ebi. Everything was very good, service was good the kiwi roll was fabulous, i would try that one again. unagi was delicious. A friend we were with was trying some of the more adventurous items for the first time and he was pleasantly surprised how tasty it was. I'm glad i helped open the door to trying some more unique unusual foods for him. I would go back.

Capstone Tea & Fondue1429 Robson Street, Vancouver
Not my usual cup of tea, but a good cup nontheless.
Submitted Sunday, February 23, 2014 - 2:10pm [Dine in]

I was strolling down Robson on a chilly afternoon with my main squeeze and saw this Tea and Fondue place. I normally wouldn't go to a place like this as it looks very pretentious to me. But rather than judge a book by its cover i dove into Capstone. We ordered, yes you guessed it, tea and fondue. One cheese fondue and one dessert chocolate fondue. I had earl grey tea and my super hot wife had chocolate mint tea. She really enjoyed the tea as i did mine. You get some fresh fruit, grapes and apples and some veggies, baby carrots and cherry tomatoes along with some bread and pastry things with the cheese fondue. With the chocolate fondue there is strawberries, pineapple, grapes, apple and mini cookie things. Both were very good and refreshing. Something different. I found it all to be surprisingly filling aswell.

The decor of the establishment was bright and fresh. The staff was friendly and flirty.

My only complaint would be its a little pricey for some cut up fruit and bread with cheese and chocolate sauce. I hear what some other reviews say about "rip off". I guess if you are looking for value, this wouldn't be a first choice, but if your looking for a fun thing to do on a date or with some good friends, this would be a good place. I notice alot of people of the female variety really like this place. Guys take your date here!

Next time i'll try the ice cream, but i'll wait till summer.

Cheers :)

Submitted Sunday, February 23, 2014 - 1:35pm [Take-out]

I love donairs. This place in Maple ridge is not bad but i find it is inconsistent. I first started with donair affair in PoCo.Awsome donars! I was delighted to see we have one in Maple Ridge. I find the MR location is not as good at the PoCo location. I ordered three donairs, one hawaiian chicken, carribean lamb and carribean mixed chicken and beef. i guess the difference must be the portions of ingredients that go into the donair. There was too much onion and not enough tabouleh and not enough sauce. It's not like it was a bad tasting donair, it was still good. But i notice the PoCo location it's always good. Maybe they should get together and compare notes.

A good donair, nice friendly staff. I will try again soon.

Keg Steakhouse & Bar, The7948 120th Road, Surrey
Great night out - except the Keg portion
Submitted Sunday, February 23, 2014 - 11:20am [Dine in]

A bunch of us went to the Keg to celebrate a friends B-Day. We called to make reservations but they said they dont take reservations after 5. This was the 152 nd surrey location. They told us if you get there around 5 you'll probbably get a seat. When we showed up at 5 , it was like a 4 hr wait for a table. Ok, it was busy because of this dine out vancouver thing that was going on. So they called the Scott rd location for us and we managed to get in there.
At the scott rd location we had to wait about an hour for table. We sat at the bar and had a few drinks and some appies to kill time. Calamari was goid, but a bit small portion.

When we got yo our table. We ordered food and the waitress seemed quite nice. As the evening progressed the service seemed to decline. The quality if service from our service provider was nil. Shouldnt we all be given water especially if we ask for it? The waitress seemed bothered about getting water for all of us. 6 adults at our table. When our steaks arrived 4 of 6 steaks were cold. They did take those off the bill in the end. My steak was ok. I ordered a sirloin oscar (a Keg favorite of mine) it was hot and tastey but lacking in bernaise sauce. My wife had pepper gravy steak, it was lacking in pepper.

The bar tender needs to learn hiw to make a good paralyzer.

Although my steak was good, speaking on behalf of my friends and the birthday girl It was nit a good night food-wise. Overall i hada great night because i was with friends, but the food portion was a total let-down. $40 for a steak? I expect top notch service at the Keg. I get better service at a fast food drive through.

I wonder if its just this Surrey location that is bad. Ive never experienced this at other locations, Vancouver, Burnaby.

I understand it was a busy night for them with the dine out Vancouver thing happening. In my book thats no excuse.

Im going to do alot more of making steak at home rather than go out to the Keg.

A Unique Japanese Dining Experience
Submitted Saturday, November 9, 2013 - 1:38pm [Dine in]

I have ordered take out from this establishment before but i wanted to try their Burning Stone Tataki. This you can only sample if you are eating in. Basically is it a large black stone that is heated and you have your choice of food you can put on it to cook. You have to cook it yourself. I ordered the assorted tataki which is raw ingredients. Tuna, Salmon, Scallop, thinly sliced beef, mushroom and some veggies. Served with miso soup, Sunomuno salad and a choice of dessert. My partner ordered a bento box with beef teriyaki which is always a good deal. A good assortment of goodies, Beef teriyaki, Gyoza, tempura, chicken karage and a dynamite roll with their signature pink rice. A typical bento box with the exception of pink rice.
All the items were very good. The pink rice is something unique to this restaurant. Some may consider this to look unappetizing judging from other reviews i have read, but it really does not make any difference in taste. The pink rice has a fruit and vegetable extract added to it to enhance the nutritional value of rice. It is 100% natural, no artificial ingredients or supplements. That sounds pretty good to me.
Back to the Tataki, it was my first experience with this burning stone and there was a lack of instruction from the staff here. How was i supposed to eat this, was there a sauce to go with it? They just served the plate of raw ingredients and then brought a hot stone out later. I placed a piece of beef on the hot stone and cooked it and ate it, it was really gross, no seasoning. Then we asked if there was a sauce. Oh yeah, there was a sauce and seasoning, they just forgot to bring it to us. Not very good for a first experience. After i figured out how to cook it, it was a satisfying experience. It was also delicious. You have a choice of spicy or teriyaki sauce. I went for the spicy sauce. I would recommend dipping the raw ingredients in soy sauce and then cooking on the hot stone. I would definitely order this again. A Great thing to do with friends or a hot date. A nice Sapporo beer to wash it all down adds to the enjoyment.
The ambiance was decent, the tables and larger comfy chairs gives the place a lounge-vibe. Just sitdown and relax. What was off-putting was the smells in the building. It smells like an old building, and some of the smells were a bit unappetizing for a restaurant setting. That would be my only negative complaint on ambiance.

Overall it was a good experience, i shall return with some friends next time.

I've been waiting Pho Long for some good pho
Submitted Tuesday, August 27, 2013 - 8:45pm [Dine in]

Pho Long is a vietnamese noodle house in Maple Ridge. Its been open for about 2 months now. I decided to give it a try.
The decor is nice and simple, clean looking.
The soup, It was good. I ordered the Pho Dac Biet which is a mixture of everything and a spring roll. The soup was good but i found the broth to be lacking in some flavour. It was more like a chicken stock than a home made authentic beef broth like i am used to from the other Pho soup places i have been to. The tendon in the soup was chewy, it should be soft. The spring roll was soaked in oil and not crispy, but the server or i think she was the cook, noticed it was off and replaced it with out us having to ask. The other wait staff or hostess, (not sure what her position was) served us tea. I thought the tea was way too strong and normally a server would come and ask you how the meal is after you've been served. This didn't happen. She was sitting and doing something on her laptop, seemed a bit out of place in a dining area. So a little bit a professionalism in a place of business wouldn't hurt anyone.
Overall i enjoyed my experience and will return to try some other dishes.

I ordered take out from this place. Its been a few years since i tried it. I thought maybe it changed and i am on the hunt for some good chinese food in Maple Ridge. I'm sorry to say that King's Kitchen has missed the mark. Another bad chinese food joint in Maple Ridge, the list keeps growing. Shrimp fried rice, rice is mushy, no flavor. The crispy Ginger beef wasn't crispy and over-sauced, way too sweet for ginger beef. The special house chow mein was just so plain, no flavour, bland. Hot and sour soup was ok. Nothing to rave about here. I don't really see anything authentically chinese in the flavours of the dishes. It's just bland food.

China Buffet - Pray to the chinese food gods for better chinese food.
Submitted Tuesday, August 27, 2013 - 7:48pm [Dine in]

I have eaten here a few times. It's not a bad deal, $14.95 for dinner buffet with dessert. I take my two year old and 1 year old kids and they seem to like eating here. This last time i went they charged me $6.95 for my two year old daughter who really doesn't eat much. Just a handful of noodles and some ice cream. I think that is quite pricey for a child. Definitley not worth $6.95. That brought my total bill to over $40. For that price i could have ordered chinese food at home and had plenty of leftovers for the next day to take for lunch.
Overall i would say i am quite dissappointed. The chinese food in Maple Ridge is generally bad and this place isn't much better. I don't think i will be going back anytime soon. I just wish we had a decent chinese restaurant with good consistant food in Ridge. The menu at China Kitchen is getting boring , same items all the time. The mussels didn't taste fresh, Store bought desserts . Not really impressed.
although The servers are quite friendly and prompt. Overall i would say it was just ok.

I had the koobideh. It was very good spicy meat. But i wish it had a little more meat. The wrap in total seemed to be lacking volume compared to some other wraps along the same corridor. But it was good and very tasty. I would try it again.

Submitted Saturday, December 8, 2012 - 10:07pm [Dine in]

I tried Japadog for the first time. I ordered the the Terimayo dog, Japadogs Signature Hot Dog. Teriyaki sauce, japanese mayo, sauteed onion and seaweed make a very unique hotdog. It's really messy and you need alot of napkins to clean yourself up after. But i loved it. Absolutely the best dog i have ever had. We also tried a new addition to their menu, the Avocado. It has avocado ontop that is torched. It was very good aswell. I will have to go back and try every one of there dogs. Loved it!

$4.75 buckeroos for the Terimayo, $7.09 for the avocado . A little expensive for a hotdog, but these aren't your average regular dogs. As gourmet as a dog can get. Its worth the money.

The dining area is very small and cramped. You will definitely be bumped into if you are dining in. It was a little dirty, the tables don't get cleaned and are very small. But this isn't a fancy restaurant. Its Japadog!
