I've seldom been disappointed by the food which has both imaginative but homey elegance. Usually it's outstandingly good and remains the most reliable bet for an evening of fine dining on the White Rock waterfront. I've lived here for 12 years and was sad to see other excellent restaurants fold - Giraffe's enduring quality and style are beloved by locals. The warm, funky, elegant interior and stunning view are worth the visit. The service strikes a perfect balance between professionalism and friendliness.Highly recommended.

We were worried about going to NU after seeing some of the reviews on this site. However we had a gift certificate so off we went.
It was so much fun and a memorable meal. We had the Dining Out lobster menu - 4 courses with wine pairings for an amazing price. The courses were all lovely - a bit too much truffle oil in the bisque but everything else was great. The setting is pure ambience with floor to ceiling windows over False Creek. Granville Market is on the opposite shore with boats and sea buses trundling by every few minutes - it was charming. I agree that the seats are alarming but by our 4th course we had forgotten and were swivelling to see all the interesting people who were there that night. The courses were often such great presentation that other folks were taking photos of their food and we wished we had brought our camera. Evedryone in the room looked like they were having the time of their lives.
There was a bit of a service lag before we got our menus and again before the main course. The greeters and servers were all exceptional though - polite, sophisticated, friendly, helpful and kind - every one of them, haven't seen service quite so pleasant in too many places. It must have very nice management. In fact a manager talked to us at length as we retrieved our coats and he was a nice, friendly guy with intelligent insights about the local food scene. Can't wait to go back. The food, ambience and service are outstanding especially for such reasonble prices.

The view is good, the mostly organic menu is very well prepared. The fly in their ointment is the service - we saw silly, pompous waiters the evening we went. Oh please, that kind of attitude has rarely been seen since the 90's. It's sooo Surrey-trying-to-be-upmarket.
If you want wonderful food, a better view and friendly, sophisticated service (sophisticated service is ALWAYS unpretentious) then go to Giraffe.
