Brunch here is amazingly pleasant. Wonderful view, excellent service beyond excellent actually and reasonably priced menu with a very good variety. I would highly recommended, especially for out of town guests that you want to impress. Get there early because it does get very very, very busy

Make sure to get table by the window for the best view.

I am a lover of Shabusen and would highly recommend it to anybody who loves fine Japanese cuisine and Korean Barbeque.

Though not a fan of sushi myself, I can still comfortably say that Shabusen offers a wide variety of well-priced maki rolls, lunch boxes, and sashimi. The Korean Barbeque is also great and lots of fun, offering enormous, tasty portions during the dinner service. You get a little less during lunch, but luckily the All You Can Eat prices during the lunch hour are more than fair at $13 dollars per person.

The wait staff are all very friendly, but the restaurant can get very busy. A little understaffed in my opinion, so sometimes people can seem very focused or look irritated. During the busier hours they can also tend to forget menial things like your drink or refilling your water, but a quick reminder usually does the trick and I have yet to encounter any problems with not receiving something that I have ordered.

MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS IN ADVANCED. On Friday nights or Saturdays, the restaurant is usually booked solid by noon, so make your reservations early.

GO VISIT SHABUSEN. GO VISIT NOW.

Good times all around
Submitted Monday, August 23, 2010 - 9:55pm [Dine in]

I met my friends there on the weekend and had a fabulous time.
We had a bunch of dishes to share, which they recommended, and everyone really enjoyed the food, we really liked the sweet chilli chicken and they have the best calamari.
Our server was friendly and very helpful to accomodating my friend who has food allergies.
Good times all around, We all will definitely go back

So yummy.

What an excellent experience. So yummy. Because I regularly read this site (just started adding to it) I knew to go early.
So we went on Monday night last week around 5:30 and were sat right away -so I think that's the trick!
It was really good food and really good service. mmmm, just thinking about it makes me smile.
I didn't find it typical indian fare (and I love indian food) but that isn't why I went there- most high end places you don't get leftovers, so I was expecting something a little small but really good and that's what I got.

The server and owner were gracious -perfect.

I think this is a place that everyone should try -at least once.
I won't be a regular as it's a little pricey and by 6 o'clock there was an hour long wait -on a monday -(we ran into some friends that were going to wait once they took a look at our food).

Overall a great place!

Worth the $$$
Submitted Sunday, August 22, 2010 - 10:13pm [Dine in]

Took my friend here for her birthday and no regrets here. We spent $200 and it was worth every penny.

The service was outstanding. I would've gave it a 5, but our server didn't warm up until the end of the meal. She was very professional, but didn't utter a word to us about anything that wasn't related to the food. But our server did go above and beyond-- I had the tasting menu and my SO did not, but she went ahead and arranged with the kitchen for small samplers to be served to my wife while I dined so that she wouldn't be just sitting there in between her courses. The waitress was also very accommodating when we had a dilemma with the dessert. Very nice touch.

As previous diners have noted, the food was amazing, especially our appetizers, Bay Scallops (done perfectly), Truffled Lobster gnocchi (delicious!), tuna tataki (flavourful). If we hadn't had so much food, I think we both would've enjoyed the entrees much more. The chocolate souffle is a must!

The room is interestingly shaped, there were 6-7 tables in the front area where the kitchen & chefs are clearly visible, but the rest of the tables are somewhere in the back (couldn't see them). But at least the chairs are very comfortable and the room is nicely-lit and warm in its neutral colours.

Yes, a full meal will cost ya, but it's worth it.

Tojo's Restaurant1133 W Broadway, Vancouver
The most succulent
Submitted Sunday, August 22, 2010 - 12:54am [Dine in]

This would not be our first time to Tojo's. Their quality of freshness is hands down second to none in the city! I'm the biggest fan of tuna toro nigiri sashimi. What can I say? Tojo's offers the most succulent cuts I've ever tasted. We were entertaining out-of-town guests to their omakase. This is a must try for any special occassion. I will point out that not all the dishes were big hits in this tasting menu, but definately well crafted. Their premium sake was absolutely wonderful and very aromatic. Overall, if you want fresh and creative dishes in Japanese cuisine, then book your next reservation here. Just don't expect them to serve you typical sushi rolls, cause they're capable of so much more!

Absolutely fantastic..
Submitted Saturday, August 21, 2010 - 11:18am [Dine in]

This place is fantastic.. I take everyone here for their introduction to East Indian cuisine. The service is absolutely fantastic.. they treat you like you're the only customer. The food is divine, truly delicious.

I don't really know what I could say that is negative about this place.. ummm.. yeah beats me. It's just a really good place, good food, extremely friendly.

Give them a shot.

Oh I know something I could say.. their hot isn't very hot. I mean, it's maybe hot for old white people. But if you REALLY love spicy food, make sure you ask for "Indian Hot." Mmmmmmm Mmmmmm.

This place is a real trip
Submitted Friday, August 20, 2010 - 7:50pm [Dine in]

The other reviewers are right on the money about this place -- huge subs, great prices on cheese, and some really, really dirty (but good natured) talk. This place is a real trip and not for the faint of heart. it goes on and on and on. Cash only. Not open weekends.

Eatery, The3431 W Broadway, Vancouver
Always yummy
Submitted Friday, August 20, 2010 - 8:49am [Dine in]

I've been to the Eatery several times. The food is always yummy & well-priced, the decor a matter of personal taste, the music too loud, and the service has ranged from ok-ish to great.

We ordered all food to share. The pork gyoza was ok (but I don't often find GREAT anywhere). ALL the sushi rolls were totally delicious! We got 8 very different ones to try - ranging from veggie to all kinds of seafood, sweet to spicy. We all found them tasty (I was especially happy cause I'm pretty timid of anything with the word "spicy" and, although there was noticeable spice, I still liked it).

Perfect ending: all the food (2 small starters - I didn't try, gyoza & 8 rolls) came out to $14 per person!

Definitely worth a try

Was rteally suprised in a good way when i stepped in the door.

Their specialty role, Ocean, includes salmon, tuna, and i think crab topped with chipped scallop and roe. Some of the best tasting rolls out there and some of the freshest fish i've ever tasted. Definitely worth a try

Cafe Crepe2861 Granville St, Vancouver
If you love crepes
Submitted Wednesday, August 18, 2010 - 9:02am [Dine in]

We visit Cafe Crepe often and the food is consistently, reliably, great. I guess it's not rocket science to make a crepe, but I must commend them for doing it right every time. The only downside is the crepes are so big and filling, I never have enough room for both a sweet and a savoury, and it's so hard to choose!

Recently their service has been a little lacking. They always have a help wanted posting on the door and it seems like nobody working there is in charge. The staff is joking around together at the front. I guess it's glorified fast food, so this level of service may be acceptable for long-term.

Intruding at times but still gets an A+
Submitted Tuesday, August 17, 2010 - 9:45am [Dine in]

4 to dine out. For starters, the pasta dishes were the best I've ever tasted. The pasta were all perfectly cooked, the sauces and seasoning authentic and absolutely delicious. The restaurant then threw in a free salad which had really good balsamic vineger. The main dishes, however, weren't to my liking. The veal and fillet of sole both had some kind of sticky sauce on them neither of which were particularly appealing. The chicken was fairly good if only they would remove the thigh bone. For desserts, the tiramisu and orange were both good. The pear tart unfortunately had a thick glaze that was too sweet. Highly recommend their coffees. Service was good but intruding at times

disapointing service
Submitted Sunday, August 15, 2010 - 9:39am [Dine in]

There is no denying that this place has great food. Their sushi is very, very fresh and pretty much everything on the menu is delicious. That said, their food isn't good enough to negate the horrible service I receive every visit to this restaurant.

These people are really ill-mannered, and it's not as though I am expect an English tea ceremony-calibre service. Just a smile or a "thank you" would be greatly appreciated. Of course, they can afford to be grumpy and altogether very conceited given the amount of customers they get. Still, that's no excuse.
