Minoas Greek Taverna3823 Kingsway, Burnaby
Great Food, Bad Service, Cool Building
Submitted Tuesday, January 16, 2007 - 7:21pm [Dine in]

Food - Excellent. I've been to Minoas about a dozen times and each dish I have tried ranges from good to great to phenomenal. My personal favorites are the lamb souvlaki and the spanakopita. They go pretty heavy on the garlic, so make sure to bring some breath mints with you.

Service - Ranges from okay to mediocre. Once had to wait 25 minutes from the time I asked for the cheque to the time I actually received it. Always the same 2 or 3 waitresses around - none of them smile. Ever. No really. Ever.

Ambiance - Nicely decorated building. Very cool greek artwork and pictures displayed throughout.

X-Site Grill and Bistro4625 Hastings St., Burnaby
Cheap Prices, Decent Food
Submitted Tuesday, January 16, 2007 - 6:31pm [Dine in]

Food - All menu items are $9.99 or less. I ordered the steak, and my SO ordered the garlic prawns. The steak was okay. About as good as you can get for a $10 steak meal, but obviously not the greatest. I tried the prawns, and they were very buttery, but not garlicy at all.

Service - Excellent service. The power actually went out when we were eating, but the staff really stepped up by lighting candles and placing them at each table.

Ambiance - Its a bistro. Pretty rustic interior, but there was a weird smell (like rotting wood) that permeated the air.

Subeez Cafe891 Homer Street, Vancouver
Great Atmosphere, Good Food
Submitted Friday, January 5, 2007 - 6:44am [Dine in]

I've been to Subeez three times in the last year and I've enjoyed my experience each time. The owner is hilarious and has a huge passion for hockey. What a Canuck!

Food - Always tasty. Healthy portions. A bit on the pricey side, but to be expected, given superb location and eclectic decor.

Service - Good, solid, restaurant service. Friendly staff.

Ambiance - Incredible. Love the huge ceilings and funky paintings. Light fixtures are cool, and decor has been 'classed up' recently.

Bimini's Tap House2010 West 4th Ave, Vancouver
Good Food, Bar-like Service
Submitted Friday, January 5, 2007 - 6:32am [Dine in]

Having lived in Kitsilano, I have gone to Bimini's for both food and drinks many times. If you come to Bimini's expecting outstanding customer service, and a creative menu, you will be sorely disappointed.

Food - Surprisingly good. On my last visit I sampled the Steak-Frites and my significant other had Grilled Chicken pasta. Both were tasty and filling. I've also been pleased with their burgers and sandwiches in the past.

Service - Bar-like service. Not friendly, not rude. Sometimes hard to get ahold of your waitress.

Ambiance - Popular Kits spot with a young, attractive crowd. Turns into a dance club on weekend evenings.

Robson Sushi Japanese Restaurant1542 Robson St, Vancouver
Japanese - Fast Food Style
Submitted Saturday, December 30, 2006 - 6:04am [Dine in]

Thought I'd give a more objective view of this place than some other reviewers. The all-you-can-eat is good for the price, and comes pretty darn fast. I had to be in-and-out of the restaurant in 45 minutes and I could have left in half that time!

Food - Tasty, but pre-prepared and 'not-so-fresh'. All-you-can-eat comes lightning quick.

Service - Waiter ordered food from his palm pilot. First time I've ever seen that. Food came out about 90 seconds after it was ordered. Fast food style!

Ambiance - Japanese-type seating, but still, only a half-step above food court-type ambiance.

Bottom Line - Decent all-you-can-eat food for the price. I'm a satisfied customer and wouldn't mind giving them repeat business.

Moxie's Classic Grill180 West Georgia, Vancouver
Poor Service, Decent Food
Submitted Saturday, December 30, 2006 - 5:53am [Dine in]

My thoughts mirror that of a previous review. I was very disappointed with the service at Moxie's on Georgia. Great location and decent food, but the service was just terrible.

Food - Decent food, okay selection of appys & entrees.

Service - Poor... and disappointing. Restaurant was half full and it took 10 minutes for them to get a table ready and seat us. Hostess looked very dis-interested and bored. Waitress frequently interrupted our conversation during drinks... then dinner... then dessert. Their only saving grace was their funny and attentive bartender.

Ambiance - Great location. Decent decor. Just too bad about the service. Won't be going back to any Moxie restaurants for a while.

Red Door Pan Asian Grill2996 Granville St, Vancouver
Pricey, but a Nice Surprise
Submitted Saturday, December 30, 2006 - 5:39am [Dine in]

If you want authentic asian food, do not go to Red Door. Its a weird, but fabulous mix of canadian-ized asian cuisine. A tad on the expensive side, but certainly worth the dining experience. I would recommend going with a few friends and sharing 5 or 6 dishes.

Food - Tasty and delicious, but fairly small portions for the price.

Service - Nice, friendly, attentive waiters. Though, we did have to wait until 7:20pm for our 7pm table reservation. Made up for it by giving us a free appy.

Ambiance - Excellent. You enter the restaurant thru a big-ass red door. Smart decor, comfy chairs, by far the nicest and cleanest 'asian' restaurant I have ever eaten in.

Lhy Thai7357 Edmonds St., Burnaby
Best Thai Food in Burnaby
Submitted Saturday, December 30, 2006 - 5:24am [Dine in]

I've been to this restaurant three times over the past four years and its been a great experience each time. Great family run restaurant which serves the best Thai Food in Burnaby.

Food - Superb. The curries are incredible and the desserts are fantastic, especially the deep-fried banana and mango ice cream.

Service - Prompt lower mainland asian-type service. Always there when you need them, always straight to business, no small talk.

Ambiance - Hole-in-the-Wall restaurant. You come for the great food. Though I do like the Thai photos on the walls.

Bridges1696 Duranleau Street, Vancouver
Outstanding Location, Good Food
Submitted Saturday, December 30, 2006 - 5:15am [Dine in]

Not sure why Bridges has been getting some bad reviews lately, as this has been one of my favourite restaurants of late. Absolutely superb bar and lounge and decent restaurant area.

Food - Best crab burger in town. Pretty good seafood dishes for the price, and a nice selection of wines and local beers.

Service - Attentive, attractive and talkative waiters/waitresses and bar staff. Friendly and informative.

Ambiance - Great views of the bridges (no pun intended) and downtown skyline. Incredible fireplace by the bar.

Amorosa Pasta House7874 Edmonds St., Burnaby
Great Food, Hole-in-the-Wall Place
Submitted Saturday, December 30, 2006 - 5:05am [Dine in]

Food - Fantastic selection of pastas. Tasty food, and a decent wine selection. Food portions were great value for the price and very flavourful.

Service - Decent, but not anything to write home about. Drink and food orders were taken promptly.

Ambiance - A pasta house in the middle of nowhere. Location would be better suited for a hardware store. Inside is quaint and intimate.
