Excellent set menu
Submitted Thursday, December 20, 2007 - 11:42pm [Dine in]

Checked out this place a couple weeks ago as part of a work function. Overall I was impressed with their food and the quality of service, even with our large group of people.

Food - Tried out the prime rib, medium-rare. It was superb. The accompanying grilled veggies were also very tasty. The dessert bar is okay, but I've certainly had better - Sutton place hotel has an incredible chocolate buffet!

Service - Really fantastic, especially considering our large group. Drink orders were filled and refilled quickly. Requests were serviced in a timely and efficient manner.

Ambiance - Very nice decor, but a little too spacious for me. The high ceilings made me feel like I was dining in a concert hall, instead of an intimate, upscale restaurant.

Overall a good experience. Recommended.

Tasty Food, Decent Prices
Submitted Tuesday, November 27, 2007 - 2:02pm [Dine in]

Checked out this place the other day with my girlfriend. Nice restaurant conveniently located on Hastings, with great interior and a home-style feel. Recommended.

Food - Spanakopita and chicken souvlaki were pretty good. I especially enjoyed the kalamari appy, very tasty and not at all greasy, just the way I like it.

Service - Friendly service. The hostess was very nice and our waitress greeted us with a smile. Food was served promptly.

Ambiance - Really fantastic. Great Greek decor throughout the restaurant. Even noticed some items from the Athens 2004 Olympics. Nice touch.

Good spot for tapas
Submitted Sunday, November 18, 2007 - 12:10pm [Dine in]

Tried out this place a couple weeks ago for a friend's birthday. Cool restaurant in a trendy spot.

Food - Excellent. Sampled the 40 dollar set menu and it was really tasty. I believe it was 11 courses. Each was well prepared and presented nicely.

Service - Pretty good. Whenever you have a large group of people on a weekened night, the service is always gonna suffer a bit. Our waitress did an admirable job trying to service all of our requests.

Ambiance - Nice place. A little cramped, but well decorated.

Outstanding Views, Good Food
Submitted Monday, November 5, 2007 - 2:46pm [Dine in]

First off, this restaurant is very expensive. You can get an equivalent meal at any other restaurant for about 1/2 the price. That said, you come for the views and the ambiance, and both are spectacular.

Food - I sampled the rack of lamb and my dining partners had the seafood medley and pork ribs. All dishes were presented nicely and tasted great. As previously mentioned, the prices were easily 2x more than you'd pay at any other restaurant.

Service - Our server was very friendly. Having said that, he was a little awkward and missed a couple of drink requests. Still, his effort and positive attitude were appreciated.

Ambiance - Outstanding 360 degree views of the Vancouver skyline. Our two hour meal allowed for two full rotations of the restaurant. Great experience overall.

Keg Steakhouse & Bar, The4429 Sundial Place, Whistler
Something Missing
Submitted Monday, October 29, 2007 - 1:19pm [Dine in]

I've been to a number of Keg locations throughout the lower mainland. Without a doubt, this place was my least favorite. Still though, a good place for decent food and a decent atmosphere.

Food - Pretty good. Keg-like quality, though my prime rib was a bit cold when served. Our bread automatically came with the garlic cheese spread which was nice and oh, so tasty. On another note, the prices at this Keg (not sure if its because its located in the Village) are noticeably higher than its lower mainland counterparts.

Service - Okay. I thought our server was pleasant, but my significant other thought he was a bit cold. In any case, we both agreed he was fairly quiet - he must've said less than 20 words to us the entire evening.

Ambiance - Missing a little something. The ambiance at other Keg locations is much better than this one. Looks to be more suited as an upscale bar instead of a nice sit down restaurant. One thing I liked was the fireplace. Nice!

Not bad, decent specials
Submitted Monday, October 22, 2007 - 7:38pm [Dine in]

Food - Tried out their fish and chips special. Huge fish pieces and tasty fries. My significant other ordered the burger and fries and that dish was pretty good too.

Service - Fairly slow, but friendly. Pub-like and not restaurant level service.

Ambiance - A really nice bar. Great flat screen TVs everywhere, and a modern decor. Central City is looking pretty good these days.

Pleasant Dinner
Submitted Sunday, October 14, 2007 - 3:29pm [Dine in]

Food - Tasty and well prepared. Fairly small portions for the price, but the presentation was fantastic. I enjoyed my steak and my significant other's chicken was superb.

Service - Friendly service, but there was a slight mix-up with the bill and the waiter forgot to bring us our jackets when we finished our meal.

Ambiance - A noticably small dining area, though a nice place with modern decor.

Chocolate Buffet... Incredible
Submitted Sunday, October 14, 2007 - 3:10pm [Dine in]

My significant other took me here for a little birthday dessert. I had never hear of this... but a chocolate buffet? It was absolutely superb.

Food - A great chocolate buffet selection of about two dozen different items... and a station where you could get freshly made crepes, with incredibly tasty ice-cream. Phenomenal.

Service - Absolutely outstanding. Friendly service, incredibly polite and attentive. Everything you could possibly want.

Ambiance - Classically elegant, intimate setting, and easy to see why this is one of Vancouver's two 5-star hotels. Gorgeous decor.

Good Food for the Price
Submitted Sunday, October 14, 2007 - 1:08pm [Dine in]

I've been to this location serveral times, the most recent this past weekend. I've alway been pretty luke-warm about this place. I find the service and the food to be fairly inconsistent. Still, recommended for their always fantastic bellinis, and great curly fries.

Food - Sampled their prime rib, medium rare. Pretty tasty and a great cut of meat for the price. The accompanied veggies and mash potatoes were okay. My significant other had the four-cheese burger and fries. At least one of the four cheeses was pretty strong with a sharp after-taste.

Service - Friendly and polite, but noticeably slow. Restaurant looked to be medium busy, though it took quite a while for our food to arrive.

Ambiance - My SO was unimpressed with the decor. I thought it was pretty normal, but certainly nothing to write home about.

I've been here a few times and its always a great place to hit up after dinner. Incredible atmosphere, great dessert.

Food - I'm not even a cheesecake person, but I love the cheesecake they serve here. Simple menu, quality dessert.

Service - Polite, friendly and fast.

Ambiance - The best aspect of the restaurant. Very cozy, intimate and just an incredible atmosphere.

Good Pho, Fast Service
Submitted Sunday, October 14, 2007 - 12:28pm [Dine in]

Tried this place for lunch a few days ago. Standard Pho food selections open 24 hours. Recommended overall for decent pho and fast service.

Food - Pretty good pho. Tasty and hot.

Service - Incredibly fast service. Our pho was served within 3 minutes and my fried rolls within 5 minutes.

Ambiance - Lacking. Tables and chairs in a cafeteria-like setting.

Great show, great food
Submitted Sunday, October 14, 2007 - 12:14pm [Dine in]

Recommended. Great food with a great show from a friendly chef. His tricks are pretty stock, but entertaining nonetheless and I liked the cheesy strobe light he turned on when doing some of his show techniques.

Food - I ordered the steak & prawns and my significant other sampled the chicken teriyaki. Both dishes were superb and the accompanying veggies were fresh and tasty as well.

Service - I laughed looking at one of the previous reviews which described the waitresses as porn stars. Its a pretty accurate description, as I remember thinking to myself that their uniforms seemed very bachelor-party stripper-ish. Honestly, it takes away from the dining experience.

Ambiance - Incredible. Just a great idea for a restaurant. Great food and a great show turn in a nice place result in a great night out.

Good Food, Great Value
Submitted Tuesday, October 9, 2007 - 10:27am [Dine in]

Checked out this place for the first time with the family a couple weeks ago. Very inexpensive menu, and a much larger restaurant than the exterior would have you believe.

Food - Tasty greek food, incredibly large portions for the price. The pita bread, calamari, rice and greek salad were fairly good, but my lamb souvlaki was noticably chewy.

Service - Attentive wait staff. Not very friendly, though requests were serviced in a timely manner.

Ambiance - Pretty basic. A few plants, some greek photos on the walls. Our table was in a fairly dark corner.

Recommended overall. Good food for a good value, though you may want to try something other than the lamb souvlaki.

Great Experience
Submitted Wednesday, September 12, 2007 - 7:41pm [Dine in]

Checked out this place in the early evening on a Saturday. It was a little hidden away, and the rear parking was a little tricky to find. Outside looks a little run down, but it was beautiful on the inside.

Food - Outstanding. I sampled the linguini and my significant other had the chicken breast special. Both dishes were incredibly tasty and presented very nicely.

Service - Since we dined earlier on in the evening, we were the only table being serviced by our waiter. He was friendly, attentive and courteous.

Ambiance - As mentioned, a little run down on the outside, but quaint and lovely on the inside.

Great food and good service. Recommended.

Sanafir1026 Granville Street, Vancouver
Incredible Ambiance, Okay Food
Submitted Wednesday, August 22, 2007 - 5:26pm [Dine in]

Let me first temper this review by saying that tapas dining isn't really my thing. Personally, I'd rather have gone to a 'regular' sit down restaurant. Having said that, the atmosphere of Sanafir is quite unique and really an amazing experience. Checked out this place as part of a work function some time ago.

Food - Small. Tasty and unique, but oh so small. I couldn't fairly say that you could even 'share' these dishes they were so tiny.

Service - Okay. Mind you, whenever you're part of a large group of people the service is expected to suffer somewhat. We only had one server for two tables of eight per table.

Ambiance - Amazing. Loved the upstairs where we were located. The see-thru drapes were very cool, as well as the 'private bed/tables' that were available. I enjoyed sitting on a pillow on the ground and eating at a short-table... absolutely incredible decor.

Submitted Wednesday, August 22, 2007 - 5:05pm [Dine in]

Checked out this place the other day with my sister and mom. Ordered the roti, mee goreng, chicken/pork/lamb skewers, and the beef curry. Great food, reasonable prices. Recommended.

Food - Excellent selection of dishes and the food itself was outstanding. Presentation left something to be desired but all the dishes were hot and tasty.

Service - Prompt and polite. Servers seemed to be rotating to our table so we didn't really get one server, but rather a team!

Ambiance - Nice decor, but pretty much a typical asian restaurant. Place was setup more for efficiency and volume of patrons rather than style.

Incredible New York Strip
Submitted Wednesday, August 22, 2007 - 4:56pm [Dine in]

First off, this place is very expensive. Appetizers are in the $15-$30 range and entrees are upwards of $40. With that out of the way, let me just say that I had my best steak over the last couple of years from this place when I checked it out with a friend, about a week ago.

Food - Incredible New York strip. Had it served rare and it was cooked to perfection. Absolutely fantastic steak... the side salad I ordered left something to be desired, but the perfection of the steak certainly made up for that.

Service - Not bad. Definitely not as knowledgeable as you'd expect out of this 'caliber' of restaurant. Relatively fast with the food, but slow on the drink service.

Ambiance - Incredible. Huge ceilings and fantastic bar setup. The lounge looked like it should have been used for a "Sex and the City" film shoot.

Great Steakhouse for the Price
Submitted Wednesday, August 15, 2007 - 3:22pm [Dine in]

The last couple of reviews made me laugh. How can you give bad ratings to a steakhouse if you've never tried the steak? I checked this place out with a few friends on the last day of the fireworks. Place was expectedly pretty empty, and we received some good service because of this.

Food - Ordered the New York strip, cooked rare and it was pretty damn good, especially given the price. A comparable steak at Morton's or Hy's would cost you about 2x to 3x as much and taste just marginally better.

Service - As mentioned the place was fairly empty, so we got some good, prompt service from our waitress. Host and bar staff were very professional.

Ambiance - Hip, modern, and dark. Very cool wine rack on the 2nd floor, viewable from the 1st floor bar area.

Sandbar Seafood Restaurant1535 Johnston Street, Vancouver
Good Seafood, Good Location
Submitted Monday, July 30, 2007 - 4:07pm [Dine in]

Checked out Sandbar for the first time a few weeks ago. Went for lunch as part of a work function on sunny Friday afternoon. Another one of the restaurants that you need a treasure map to find.

Food - Shared a couple of the large Dragon boat platters. The squid was pretty good, everything else was decent. For my entree I had the pacific northwest wood grilled salmon. Tasty and tender, though not the best salmon I've ever had. I found the sides to be a bit lacking.

Service & Ambiance - Of course when you come with a large group the service is expected to suffer a bit. Having said that, the servers did a decent job trying to service our requests. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Superb decor and nice location right by the water.

Great Food, Incredible View
Submitted Monday, July 30, 2007 - 3:47pm [Dine in]

I've spent many a summer going to Granville Island and never knew this place existed. Its located right at the back of the Granville Island hotel and it features a gorgeous view of false creek. My friend and I checked out this place a couple weeks ago on a weekday evening and were very pleasantly surprised.

Food - I ordered the prime rib and it was pretty damn good. Not the best I've ever had, but a tender and tasty cut, and the accompanied sauces and veggies were excellent. I also enjoyed their spring roll appetizers and a couple of mango margaritas. Yum.

Service & Ambiance - We came on a sunny weekday evening so most of the customers were out on the patio, while we were seated in the restaurant right next to the floor-to-ceiling windows with the spectacular view. As such, we were the only table served by our waiter and received some good, prompt service.

Highly recommended, thought a bit on the pricey side. Good food, good service, good location and phenomenal view!
