Very Disappointed
Submitted Thursday, October 2, 2008 - 11:50pm [Dine in]

Food: For lunch, I odered a veggie burger and my partner had a hotcakes platter. Both were very bad. My burger was overcooked, tasteless and not fresh at all. Pancakes were also overcooked and tastless; probably the worst pancake i've ever had.

Servie: The owener/manager seems frendly, but my server wasn't. She didn't bother saying 'you're welcome' whenever we thanked her for the service.

Oh Fondant au Chocolat!!
Submitted Wednesday, April 9, 2008 - 2:25pm [Dine in]

I was at the mall and I found out that there was no line up at Beard Papa's. YAY!! When I was slowly entering into the dividers, I saw one of employees uncovering and chopping a gigantic Callebuat dark chocolate bar. The really stuff!! So I immediately bought a piece of Foundan au Chocolat and it was really really good. It was oozy and gooey chocolaty inside. But I have to say that the filling could be too much to scare off non-chocolate lovers. I heard it is best served warm; although I didn’t bother reheating.
I would defiantly return for more of these sinful cakes!!

Weird Matcha Cheesecake
Submitted Sunday, April 6, 2008 - 10:29pm [Dine in]

I was having cravings for good bubble tea and I remembered all the good reviews for this place. It looked really nice inside. Service was okay. I mean it's more like a self-serving system; you go up to the counter and tell them what u want. How bad the service can be?
After reading all the listing of teas in the menu, I chose strawberry mango slush with lychee blueberry jelly drops. The drink was good, but the texture of jellys was a little off; it wasn't jelloy enough. I also ordered a up-side down matcha cheesecake. I was expecting it would be full of green tea flavour, but the colour wasn't even GREEN!! And the cheese that they used was odd. It was more like whipped cream with extra fat.
So I just want to warn those peolpe who expect better do not expect too much from them.

Top Shanghai Cuisine Restaurant8100 Ackroyd Rd, #120, Richmond
they shouldn't be called top Shanghai restaurant
Submitted Tuesday, March 4, 2008 - 12:30am [Dine in]

Heard it's one of better Shanghai restaurents from my friend. Brought my parants to try. We ordered steamed pork& shrimp dumplings, pork chop with onion and green onions, and Shanghai noodle. The dumplings were decent although my mom thought their skin was little bit undercooked and I thought the juice inside was greacy. My main problem was with the noodle which cooked with dark soy sauce and was so salty so that it was bitter. I expected better Shanghai noodle from a Shanghai place.
I thought Northern Delicacy was better since their food was milder and cleaner. Or I'm not authentic enough to understand strong and bold Shanghai food..
Service, I normally do not expect too much from a Chinese restaurant. It wasn't horrible though..

Good Fresh Mango Cake!
Submitted Tuesday, February 12, 2008 - 4:42pm [Dine in]

Since there is a ton of Chinese bakeries in Richmond, I tend to go for each one's "specialty' items. For this bakery, they were known for fresh mango cake. It is a little pricey but it's worth it. Outside is covered by thin layers of fresh mango and chunks of fresh mango cubes and fresh whipped cream inside. Very light and fresh.

Super salty food!
Submitted Monday, January 28, 2008 - 11:02pm [Dine in]

Had dinner at the pub with three other friends. We ordered crab cake for a starter. It was described as 'famous home made' but it was very dry and didn't taste anything like crab. What's more, main dishes were disester. We had Steak & Guinness Pie, Irish Corned Beef & Cabbage, and Roasted Chicken Panini. Everything was extremly salty. After a bite, we couldn't have another one so we had to tell the waitress, who was very friendly and attentive. She told to the manager and we got our dinner for free which was a good thing (althought we had to leave with our stomach empty and had to have cup noodles in the hotel suit.).
I don't think i'll return there ever again.

Cupcakes on Denman1168 Denman Street, Vancouver
Go for the mini ones
Submitted Monday, January 28, 2008 - 5:52pm [Dine in]

I agree with other reveiwers that the icing is too sweet and the cakes are little dry. Sometimes they even taste so artificial. BUT! if you go for the tiny mini ones, you'll see how creamy and soft both of the cream and cakes are while they balance to each other so well. Downsides of the place are that the service is a little weird (it's not like they are really horroble or anything but they not kind..) and those cupcakes are pricey!
