Great pasta! Amazing mussels and clams!
Submitted Saturday, November 7, 2009 - 1:02am [Dine in]

This hidden gem is a really great restaurant with amazing dishes. Our waiter was great, he was attentive and very nice and genuine! They have a special on the front page of the menu where you get your choice of appetizers (the mussels and clams was really yummy), pasta trio, veal done 3 ways with delicious roasted potatoes, grilled tomato, peas, red pepper and broccoli!! After your meal, you get a choice of dessert (the home-style Tiramisu was really well done!) and coffee or tea is offered after. There were a lot of food and I even had take out from each course to bring home!! We would definitely come back to order off the regular menu. Very pleasant dinner and great service, it was amazing from start to finish.

Great lunch!
Submitted Thursday, November 5, 2009 - 12:26am [Dine in]

The smoked salmon pizza is really good, I also like the bottled peach juice they sell, its the most light but flavorful peach juice I've ever had. The nutella flat bread is also very creamy and good. The coffee is okay. I enjoy sitting outside most of the time, they have a nice open space outside! The service needs to improve though, they need to be be more genuine!

DELICIOUS Chocolate!
Submitted Thursday, November 5, 2009 - 12:15am [Dine in]

My first piece of Thomas Haas chocolate was a gift from work, after the first bite I knew I had fallen in love with their fine chocolate, as soon as the new Kitslano location opened I was jumping for joy becuase North Van was just too far for me! They have a great selection here. I tried the Raspberry, Caramel, Crispy Hazelnut, and Matcha chocolate bar, loved this handmade white chocolate with matcha green tea bar!! Everything I've tried so far is delicious! Also had the Raspberry Cake, it was really yummy!

Expected more but still good.
Submitted Tuesday, November 3, 2009 - 12:08am [Dine in]

Service was good, we were greeted immediately as we entered, as soon as we sat down our waiter appeared! The vodka cocktail was weak though, did not enjoy my drink at all, kinda bland and too much ice! I really enjoyed the selections on the 2 tiers of seafood tower! The oysters were really good, jellyfish salad was okay, smoked salmon was average, scallops and mussels were good, shrimp was okay. I loved the plating and decor on the tiers! Not sure about my entree, had the Arctic Char, the mushrooms were way too salty to my liking, but I enjoyed the mini pearl pasta around the dish. The Beef Tenderloin was cooked well but nothing special, it came with a fresh baked macaroni and cheese with spinach, it was creamy and had a crunchy top. Dessert was good, cheesecake was light and sweet perfect to end the night, but I did not like the super sour mandarin in the cheese cake though, it was way off!! Yikes! Overall dinner was okay, guess after all the great reviews we expected more.

Very happy with the food and service!
Submitted Saturday, August 22, 2009 - 1:03am [Dine in]

We did not have reservations, walked in at 6:30 pm and the owner let us know that if we finish within the hour we'd have a table that was reserved for the next hour. I was fine with that considering how hungry we were and we knew exactly what we wanted to order. The beef was very thinly sliced, chicken was tender, oysters were big, the lettuce was very clean unlike most hot pot restaurants. It was $17.95 for all you can eat hot pot and $5 for choice of soup base. They have many selections on the menu! We also ordered a beer and a plate of deep fried fish skin on the side and the bill came to $49.95! Overall everything was fresh, the food came quick and they always refill your tea and refill the soup. I really enjoyed dinner here, it was a pleasant dinner without the long wait at any Chinese restaurant in Richmond during dinner hours. I was very happy with the food and service!

Really great PHO!
Submitted Thursday, August 20, 2009 - 9:32am [Dine in]

I was introduced by a friend to Taste of Vietnam, they have really good beef noodle soup, the soup base is perfect! My friend said its like having a traditional bowl of Pho in Vietnam! You really taste the beef and the onions in the soup, and not MSG unlike most Vietnamese restaurants. Don't expect your meal to be quick, you do have to wait awhile for your meal. They serve really good spring rolls too! Sometimes I'd even order 2 orders just cause they are so good. You also get complimentary fresh fruits for dessert! The restaurant looks like a little French cafe with paintings on the wall, and vases and flowers on each table, it all accents nicely with the quality of food. I would highly recommend A Taste of Vietnam for lunch or dinner!

Fresh Mango Cubes on BBT!!
Submitted Thursday, August 20, 2009 - 9:23am [Dine in]

I went to check out Bubble Queen on a Sunday, unfortunately it was closed!! There was a photo of a delicious looking mango smoothie bbt with loads of mango cubes on it on the window, ever since I saw that I've been thinking of this place for awhile now but never made it to try it and finally checked it out one night. The fresh mango cubes on top of the mango milk smoothie was really light and fresh, perfect for a warm summer night. The mango was perfectly ripe and sweet, the mango milk smoothie was very nicely blended together, not too sweet and the pearls were fresh and soft. They do close early at 10pm, when we walked in at 9:55pm, there was still 2 tables of kids sitting around, however they asked us to take our bbt to go as soon as it was ready. Service was pretty poor even though they were polite when they asked but considering most places do wait til their guests leave then close, I found it annoying.

Incredible Japanese Fine Dining!!
Submitted Wednesday, July 29, 2009 - 7:38pm [Dine in]

I felt very comfortable walking into the restaurant, we were greeted with a warm and friendly smile by the hostess, we didn't make reservations but we got seated right away. Our server was very pleasant, he knew what he was doing and was attentive. The decor was beautiful, great view of the coal habour, it was one of the most memorable night, the sun was just setting and the sky was orange-red and you could see the sunset while we were dining. I was really impressed with every dish we ordered, we started off with a salmon sashimi, it came with 2 soy sauce, the sweet soy sauce was perfect for the sashimi, I enjoyed the regular soy sauce more for sushi. The deep fried chicken with special sauce is absolutely delicious!! It was the best chicken dish ever, you could taste the sweet flavor of the chicken breast, so juicy and tender and on top was some kind of sauce that I couldn't stop eating and I dipped everything with! The salmon aburi roll is incredible! Dessert was beautifully presented, we had the creme brulee pyramid, it was very creamy and light. The shortbread cookie worked really well with the creme brulee! I would highly recommend Miku, it is definitely a must try if you love Japanese fine dining!

The best chicken wings EVER!!
Submitted Sunday, July 19, 2009 - 2:58am [Dine in]

I love the chicken wings at Phnom Penh, everytime I go its almost a given that every table has a plate of their deep fried chicken wings with lemon and pepper sauce on the side, its soooooo good, the deep fried chicken wings with rock salt and pepper taste is truly amazing! I also like the salad rolls, and beef with vermicelli dish where you mix the carrots and cucumbers with everything and pour fish sauce on top. They make great iced coffee too. Every lunch and dinner is packed, theres a normally a 5-10 min wait, but so worth the wait!

Excellent Skewers!
Submitted Sunday, July 19, 2009 - 2:50am [Dine in]

Zakkushi makes excellent skewers, my favorite is the beef tongue and rice cake on skewers. They make a very yummy deep fried baby prawns with soy sauce to dip on the side, its fried so you could eat everything except the shrimp head. I loved the beef and veggies in soup alot! (I actually ordered one to go after dinner) The salmon sashimi was really fresh, great to accompany the skewers with. Great place to hang out and grab a sake!

Tony's Beef Noodle5710 Cambie Street, Vancouver
Tender beef and great soup base!
Submitted Sunday, July 19, 2009 - 2:41am [Dine in]

Tony's Beef Noodle is famous for their soup base and tender beef. We started with a trio appetizer of marinated beef, beef tripe and pork intestine, they were all very well done, the flavors was good, the meat was tender. Then came the bowl of their signature beef noodle, the soup was hot and tasted excellent, the beef was super tender and juicy. The mango green tea bubble tea was not too sweet and had just enough mango and green tea flavor. I was very impressed with the bubble tea, many restaurants try making bubble tea and fail horribly, but here they've mastered it to perfection! We also ordered steam pork buns, it was one of the best juicy pork buns I've had and the skin was so delicate!! Tony's beef noodle is a family owned small joint that makes delicious dishes, great prices and love the prompt service.

Copa promises a good meal!
Submitted Saturday, July 18, 2009 - 2:38am [Dine in]

Copa has a great selection of food items on their menu. They range from Asian inspired/Western dishes to authentic Asian style dishes. They also offer appetizers, soups and snacks. Between 11am-6pm and 9pm to close; they offer mini sets which will includes a drink at $6.95 & up .Normally the mini sets do not run from lunch time to 6pm which makes it a great deal! The Thai-style roasted chicken fried rice is amazingly tasty! The rib eye steak is tender and cooked medium rare like we wanted it. The tapioca creamy soup was innovative, it was served as the daily soup when we went to dine. I had never had tapioca in my regular soup before but to my surprise it came out pretty interesting! Normally I'd add salt to everything but I was pleased to find the flavors were just perfect and I did not have to add salt to anything! I would definitely recommend Copa for a promising meal.

Small rolls of sushi in a fridge?
Submitted Wednesday, July 15, 2009 - 1:44pm [Dine in]

Not sure about the bite size sushi roll, looks like its been sitting there for a long time, but the ingredients seemed okay though. Theres no option of just white rice, I'm not a fan of brown rice and the combination was just not good for me. The service was ok, since it is a walk in, sit by the stool kind of place. $3.50 & up for a couple bites? Not sure about the price too!

Great Place for All You Can Eat Hot Pot!
Submitted Saturday, May 2, 2009 - 10:53pm [Dine in]

I love going to Cattle Hot Pot for all you can eat for $17.95, you really get your money's worth, the soup base is $5, for $8 you get to choose 2 soup bases, and pop is only $1 for 2 cans. They have a wonderful variety of everything from meat to seafood, and vegetables. Everything is fresh, the restaurant is small but very clean, and I especially like the service, the servers are prompt and attentive. My favorite dishes includes the fish fillet, chicken fillet, fatty beef slices (very tender and thinly sliced). I always leave happy and satisfied, Cattle is definitely one of my favorite restaurants for hot pot!

Bad Service!!
Submitted Friday, May 1, 2009 - 8:03pm [Dine in]

Shopping on Main St, we decided to check out Shaktea one afternoon and I was very curious with the menu, the woman behind the counter acted annoyed after 2 questions. I had never been to Shaktea and I asked for a good green tea recommendation and she just kept going on and on about what they had on the menu, ignoring my question. We were the only customers in the store, what was so important other than business? She was also trying to rush me to order, who walks in not knowing the menu and orders within a minute?! I got so fustrated with her I just left the ordering to my boyfriend and went sit and wait. She should not be working at a tea house if she doesn't know what to recommend to customers! I did not enjoy my tea at all, I thought the tea I got was like any other at your local Starbucks, except it cost $6 for a small cup and it came with bad service.

Seto Sushi in Richmond is consistently solid with everything on their menu, I especially love the chopped scallop cones here! It is stuffed with creamy chopped scallops and massago, so delicious!! I also love the salmon sashimi, marinated salmon sashimi (spicy~love it!), grilled black cod, perfectly grilled, beef tataki, tender and fresh, and prawn tempura, crisp but lightly battered. They are very busy every day of the week, so make reservations!

Authentic Thai Food!
Submitted Monday, April 27, 2009 - 12:05am [Dine in]

Bangkok Bistro has great quality Thai cuisine, as we entered the restaurant the owner/server was very warm and friendly. We ordered the chicken skewer, the chicken breast was very tender and juicy, one of the best chicken skewer I've had! For entree we had the brown curry beef, which came with jasmine rice, excellent curry! You could smell the spice and the beef melts in your mouth, loved this dish! Also loved the chicken pad thai noodle, it was flavorful and it came with a small side of salad, a nice touch to the dish! For dessert we had the deep fried banana with mango and coconute ice cream, very nicely done and I especially loved the black sesame on top! Great place, delicious food, outstanding service, Bangkok Bistro is now my new favorite Thai restaurant!

Bad Steak!!
Submitted Wednesday, March 25, 2009 - 8:32pm [Dine in]

This is suppose to be a steak house? We had over 25 people in our party, almost everyone ordered steak and all of them came out way overcooked and chewy! Some more people arrived even later, also ordered the rib eye steaks and it came out well overcooked, for $40 and up for a steak Carver's needs to reconsider using a different head chef. The ambiance was very uncomfortable, the restrooms were in the hallway of the hotel, so you'd have to make your way out these 2 big doors and everytime it opens it brings extra light into the low lighting restaurant which is quite disturbing. Bad quality steak at fine dining prices, this place is a waste of money.

Solid All You Can Eat Japanese Restaurant.
Submitted Wednesday, March 25, 2009 - 8:21pm [Dine in]

This all you can eat Japanese restaurant is quite solid in terms of food quality and selection. For an additional $5 more, you get more sashimi selection, including; salmon belly sashimi, geoduck sashimi, uni sushi, amaebi sashimi, bbq black cod and rack of bbq lamb and more...which is quite the deal! They offer a fish soup that is very tasty, other than the miso soup. I would definitely recommend Ebei for all you food lovers with a stomach for Japanese all you can eat.

Great Sushi Joint!
Submitted Wednesday, March 25, 2009 - 8:12pm [Dine in]

Blowfish is a small but great sushi joint that makes great food including the Chicken Karage, Ebi Sunomono, Spicy Crispy Tuna, Spicy Crispy Salmon, Bite-size Mini Mango Cheesecake. The portion of salmon sashimi is quite big compared to most Japnese restaurants. The chef will greet you as you come in, the server is polite and friendly, the tea is nice and hot, and the food is fresh. I have become a regular here now and will keep coming back for my Japanese food cravings! Great place for a light snack, lunch or dinner!
