The food was good and wholesome. We had the avocado salad (which didn't come with any avocados--apparently it's in the sauce), which was ok, but the blackberry salad was very delicious. We also had a few of the pizza - the bradner and oceanwiser, which were very tasty and the crusts were perfect!
However, the service was atrocious. Our server, an English lass, was rude and ambivalent. While the service was moderately quick, she was rude to both our table, other tables in the restaurant, and even yelled at one of her coworkers, calling her "stupid". Completely unprofessional and disgusting service; the owner should seriously consider getting some new waitstaff.
The ambiance was nice cafe style, with the pizza oven and open kitchen adding nice touches.
Overall, we wouldn't consider returning to dine unless the waitstaff was overhalled; we may order take-out.

Let's start with the good. The food was flavorful, authentic Mexican. Jonny had a great chicken enchilladas and tasty chorizo quesadilla; the rice and beans were somewhat stale, but still decent. Gina had a pleasant chicken fajita, even though she ordered the beef, which leads us to the bad, the service. Even though the server was nice, if somewhat apathetic, he needed to be prompted for water and hot sauce, did not quality check the meal, forgot to put the salad dressing on the side as requested, and failed to include the fajitas in the food to go. As for the ambiance, it was typically westernized, distasteful Mexican decor. Illuminated with Christmas lights and no shortage of sombreros, need we say more? The washrooms were dingy; walls were dirty, toilets barely flushed, lights fluttered and buzzed.

We went on a whim with our entertainment coupon, which gave us one free entree. Jonny had a delicious steak with chef's gravy and fries. Gina had a magnificent lamb dinner that fell off the bone, served with a delicious wine sauce and accompanied by a decent syrah. Overall, we'd give the food a four and a half, but dinehere only allows us to choose four or five. Our waiter was prompt, friendly and not overbearing or annoying. The ambiance was average bistro style, but had a distinctly dog decor emphasis. Overall, we'd definitely recommend Smoking Dog, and will return.
