Ebisu on Robson827 Bute Street, Vancouver
Good Food, Service Ok
Submitted Wednesday, July 14, 2010 - 7:02pm [Dine in]

We've only been here once. First Impressions.

Food: Had a variety of appty's. Most of the food was quite good. Except for the hair we found on the Ebi mayo. The oysters were very good as was the tuna tataki.

Value: Not bad. Not great.

Ambiance: Very cool and nice view overlooking Robson. Too bad there's no patio.

And finally, Service: I have to agree with the other reviews. This was a big turn off. Not friendly to us. We were very polite (not an overly obnoxious teenager or drunk patron). We didn't understand the servers attitude, but oh well, we didn't tip that well either.

We liked how the Chef's yelled in Japanese "Iras-shai-mase" when we entered.

Wonderful Japanese Food
Submitted Wednesday, July 14, 2010 - 6:50pm [Dine in]

Food: No farmed salmon is my lunch. Nice. I'll eat farmed, but getting wild sockeye is even better. I have eaten here many times. The food is consistent which I think is the most important thing in a restaurant. Consistently, good! Sashimi is fresh. Deep fried roll is amazing. Very very good.

Service: Wonderful. The waitress made my day. She was so nice. She could have used some help from the man behind the counter (owner?), as she was pretty much running the entire floor by herself. She was knowledgeable, friendly, efficient, and sweet. She deserves praise.

Value: Very reasonable. Nothing overboard in the pricing here.

Ambiance: I like the layout of Kansai. The private tables in the back are very nice. The decor is appropriately decorated.

I like the fact that there are some real Japanese people working here. That's always a good sign for a Japanese restaurant.

We like it!!!
Submitted Wednesday, July 14, 2010 - 6:40pm [Dine in]

We like coming to the Gull. It is close and convenient and has a nice feeling.

Service: While I'll agree the some of the servers can get stressed out many others are wonderful. I have learned if you treat people with some kindness and like human being and not like slaves you will often get the same kindness and respect back. I like the servers. Remember: Some of these people have to deal with a few bad apples, who are drunk, and perhaps create most of the problems themselves. Personally, I couldn't deal with drunk fools.

Drinks: The bartender is awesome! He is experienced and knows what he is doing. I've had him make me several special martini's that he just created off the top of his head. DELICIOUS! He's nice, efficient, and makes a nice Ceasar!

Food: For a pub, it is very good. I've had a variety of appty's and sandwiches here and they have all been very fresh and tasty. Have yet to try brunch here though. A nice selection.

Ambiance: I like it here. We come in pretty early when it's more quiet, have a few drinks, and some food. Watching a Canucks game on the big screen is great. They often have live music I have heard.
