Good value and pretty decent food.
Submitted Wednesday, December 22, 2010 - 11:10am [Dine in]

Food is great for the price and the portions,
The lamb shank is very tender and fresh, but a little on the dry and salty side.
Calamari is crispy outside and tender inside. Risotto is baked and extremely hot when it comes but the flavours are wonderful and different layers of flavours inside.

Service is pretty fast and good.

Good value, try to avoid peak hours to avoid huge lineups. Really, it's huge lineups

Great Neighborhood eatery- Excellent burger
Submitted Tuesday, November 30, 2010 - 8:37pm [Dine in]

This new neighborhood place is excellent,
the chef to be someone who takes pride and make his food carefully.
The burger is delicious, solid patty grilled/baked to perfection and still tender and juicy; topped with baby spinach leaves and the works.

They have surprisingly good cookies too. I am a cookie fan and i go around Vancouver hunting down the best white chocolate macadamia nut cookies. This place has the best one so far, way better than Subway, Tim Hortons and even cookies of course in Harbour centre. Large chunks of white chocolate, whole macadamia nuts and chewy moist inside, you can ask him to microwave it for you for 10-15 seconds, then let it sit for a while.

Gyoza is very good. Ramen is okay, good value though
Submitted Sunday, October 31, 2010 - 12:24pm [Dine in]

The Gyoza is very crispy outside and juicy inside. The sauce that goes with is is not too salty as well. The ramen is so so, not the best place if you want quality japanese ramen but the value is outstanding. Please beware of the waiting time though. Depending on when you go, you might have to wait for a long while.

Food is excellent, a bit pricey
Submitted Sunday, October 31, 2010 - 12:18pm [Dine in]

I had their squash soup lunch special with a feta and tomato quiche. The quiche is on the dry side but the soup helps it to go down. the soup is very thick and a hint of cinnamon.

The best is still their paninis, pricey but very crispy and you can pick out the distinct flavours of the things inside and it's quite filling for their half wedge.

Black Cod must try
Submitted Sunday, October 31, 2010 - 12:15pm [Dine in]

Their black cod is a must try for lunch special,
comes down to around 15.50 after HST and tips during lunch time.

The blackcod is extremely tender and i think they cure it for a few days before grilling it, it has a little bit of a "salted fish" smell to it. Nevertheless, the fish is tender, sweet and has a good sweet aftertaste. The lunch combo comes with well made miso soup that is not too salty and some traditional japanese pickles and a garlic mashed potato salad. The highlight is the grilled blackcod.

You can see the chef grilling it on the robata and spraying either oil or water onto the fish every once a while.

Great Italian food, one of the better pasta joints in downtown core area
Submitted Wednesday, December 16, 2009 - 5:14pm [Dine in]

I had a proscuitto sun dried tomato panini and Gorgonzola Gnoccchi.

the panini is filled with meat but i find it too salty for my liking. My friend ordered basil pesto chicken and it was superb. the basil pesto's flavor is just right and does not cover the taste of the chicken. The panini was crispy and piping hot when it came and the argula leaves inside were still at room temperature and not mushy from the heat. Great job.

The gnocchi is cooked to al dente. The gorgonzola cheese sauce might be too strong for some and is a flavor similar to blue cheese and strong goat cheese. Better pasta than Italian kitchen and Il Dino.

Excellent Lunch Menu. Very Traditionally French
Submitted Wednesday, December 16, 2009 - 4:54pm [Dine in]

Service is very good and fast.

I had the wild mushroom soup with truffle oil for appetizer. The wild mushroom soup was beautifully done with a very fine texture and the truffle oil adds an extra dimension to the taste. Garnished with perfectly chopped spring onions.

Amouz-bouche was smoked salmon and asparagus quiche. The smoked salmon taste was subtle, i would have liked it more if it was stronger. Nevertheless, the quiche was warm and moist and delicious.

I also had escargots. The escargots were very fresh and each one of them had a garlic pastry shell underneath. Eating the escargots by itself lacked some flavor but eating it with the garlic shell destroys the smooth consistency of the escargot. Beautifully presented.

For my main, i had the seared trout. Wonderfully cooked to perfectly, flaky sides and still tender inside. The sauce was creamy but not too much, with a hint of lemon and garlic and did not overwhelm the taste of the trout but complemented it beautifully.

The details at this place is wonderful, detail of the food presentation, the waiters, hosts. Remarkable experience.
