Onyx Steakhouse & Lounge1225 Johnston Road, White Rock
A real hidden gem

Last week one of the guys from work told me about this new restaurant he had found in white rock called onyx. He was raving about the fantastic time him and his wife had when they went so I figured I had to go see what was going on. I took the wife and our little girl there for dinner on Friday night and I totally get why he was so excited. It's a steakhouse so it's right up my alley and its totally contemporary and comfortable, you walk in, sit down and unless you walk back outside you could easily be at any number of great restaurants downtown. It was a pretty busy night but we had a reservation so it wasn't a problem getting a table, and they were great about having halley there with us, they even did a little tweaking of some of their normal menu items so she had something to eat. She had the java chicken skewers without the peanut sauce and the gorgonzola mac and cheese without the gorgonzola... kind of wish she hadn't so i could have had some lol, guess i'll have to go back for that. So i had the 16oz ribeye medium rare and sides of yam gratin and sauteed vegetables and my wife had the petit filet and we shared a beet salad to start. everything was fantastic, perfectly cooked and all came out to the table together, our server was great as well, totally helpful with the menu, which is a la carte by the way, and she really made our night special. i really think the best part of the night was the fact that we were home in 15 minutes and could get halley to bed, way easier than driving all the way downtown and i think way better.

Me and the guys regularly head to Samz to watch the game and have a couple of drinks. Always a good time, The slammin samz burger is awesome and the servers and bartenders are always really friendly and attentive even though its busy. every night too they have food and drink specials and prize giveaways during canucks games. definitely a great neighbourhood spot.
