Probably the worst lamb souvlaki I've ever had. It actually tasted rancid. I would not recommend Eugene's to anyone. I will not be going back there. I'm very dissapointed because I love lamb souvlaki, but this place is useless to me.
The Penny Farthing scores big points for its decor and ambiance. So much effort was put into creating an authentic english pub. Stand outside and have a look at the incredible detail that went into the building, then go inside and be surrounded by dark wood and cozy corners. Excellent service, and great pub food. This pub has become an icon of Oak Bay.
I stopped in to the Ogden Point Cafe to get some simple food, and that's exactly what I found. I had the meat lasagna. It's cafe style, go up and order food, then sit down and wait for it to be brought out. It's OK. Good place to stop for coffee after a walk along the breakwater or Dallas Rd.
On Friday nights this place is packed. Very popular and lively. Choose your noodlebox and go up and order it, then watch your food being made while you wait. Personally, I think the food is pretty average, but it's fun to order and it comes in a little take-out box which is good if you're on the go.
This restaurant is outfitted like a stereotypical Mexican village (or something like that). Pinatas and stuff like that hanging from the ceiling. I've had great food every time I've been there, and wouldn't hesitate to go back.
The Beacon Drive-in is just a place to get some cheap hot dogs, burgers, or ice cream. Very fast food-ish, no so much about quality as it is about convenience. Right across the street from Beacon Hill park. Grab a cheese dog and go chase the ducks in the park.
Bartholomews is a great place to find some cheap pub food in a Olde Englande style decor + great service. I think they also have live music a few times a week. There are also some TVs for watching the big game (hockey, soccer, etc...)
