You Get What You Pay For..... PLEASE READ!
Submitted Sunday, January 31, 2010 - 9:07pm [Dine in]

I have been a long time AYCE Sushi fan. I have been coming to BC Sushi since it was Yukiyama back in early 2000. I have seen it change from a great place (Yukiyame) to BC Sushi, where it was good, then changed ownership and was TERRIBLE and then changed ownership again, I think around 2008-09 I think.

I am a HUGE eater and have eaten sushi all over Vancouver and Japan. First off the sushi is OK, not great, but OK.

People complain they don't get their full orders. That happens at any AYCE sushi. It is to try to get you full to save costs. The next reason why it takes so long? it is so your stomach gets full. I have studied the human body extensively, and there is basically a window that you can put a lot of food into your system to a certain time, and then it starts to realize it gets full. This is why your first order is VERY quick, then the following are usually slower. The service is not great, and items are routinely "forgotten" from your order.

To all the people who gripe and complain saying it is terrible and will never go there again. Please remind yourself. you are PAYING $10.95!!! COME ON PEOPLE. I just went to Handi on Dunbar for 4 people, not even eating that much, with 5 beers total, the bill was $140 after tip. You get what you pay for. You are paying $11.30 before tip on menu A, you are going to get $11.30 worth of service. How is the service at Subway? Pita Pit? McDonalds? And don't just say its good because you get it fast either!

If you want EXCELLENT service and GREAT sushi, go somewhere else. Go and pay $50 p/p or more at Tojo's to get full. But don't come to AYCE for $11.30 and then have the Audacity to complain and say it was poor quality and poor service.

If you have ever run a business, or worked in a restaurant you would know these things. Each AYCE person only nets around $5 p/p sometimes less, after paying staff, paying rent, paying for food and paying all other bills. So please, the next time you come to an AYCE sushi place, shove your face as full as you can, pay $11.30 and then wonder why the service wasn't that great, maybe cosider not being so cheap and going to a more expensive restaurant. I can understand all the complaining if you were paying $20-$30 p/p...but you are not! It's like flying 1st class or Business class, compared to flying on a Cargo plane.

Overall, the food is decent for what you pay. Service, about what you would expect from someone making minimum wage and CHEAP UBC students or whomever leaving 10% or less for a TIP.
