Hachi Hana1426 Lonsdale Avenue, North Vancouver
Great family dinner

We just came back from another great meal at Hachi Hana sushi in North Vancouver. Consistent, fresh, friendly, they have yet to disappoint us. We came at 5:20 on a Saturday; we had a reservation but it was fairly empty when we arrived; packed when we left. With three kids in tow (7 - 5 - 1) we are a bit hard to please but they satisfied all palates; great sushi (5-year-old loves salmon sashimi - go figure); cones; tasty gyoza and tempura; noodles for the baby. It was all good. Complimentary bbq tuna was a lovely addition as well. They do a roaring takeout trade here - phone early and be prepared to wait a few minutes because they are so busy, but its well worth it. Highly recommended; we've been here a dozen times or so over the last 3 years. Same servers; gracious & quick, know what they are doing. One downside is the wine list; practically non-existent but a good choice of beers -- better with sushi anyway.

Great new spot in dead stretch of Granville

We ate a pre-concert meal here on May 10th. We almost went to Whineo's and I'm so glad we didn't - this place was quieter (but still had a great ambiance with fun music) and the food was way, way better. Extremely hot, fresh-tasting items: we had lamb kebobs; veggie samosas; chicken pakoras; fries; and a couple of other items. A really outstanding server made the whole experience very enjoyable and the chef or owner came out to chat - very nice. I'd definitely go back - maybe for lunch as my office is nearby and its a bit of a bad zone for restaurants. Its a nice room too; relaxing and interesting. They've done a good job here.

We ate here on May 17th with our three kids (aged 6; 4 and baby). We all enjoyed the meal (well, baby mostly slept). We went early when it was very quiet; I imagine at night it would have a fun atmosphere. We ate several of the appetizers; the ebi gyoza were among the best I've had; the fries were great & a kid-pleaser, as was the chicken karaage. We enjoyed a main course consisting of hamburger, breaded prawns and tonkatsu (breaded pork); all delicious. All comfort foods we recalled fondly from days in Japan as English teachers, and each one was well executed and above average ...Service was also great but then we were almost the only diners. It needs a better sign - we almost missed it and we were looking for it. Great room -- well designed and fun.
