Boneta loves me!

I want to start by saying this is by far one of favorite restaurants in Vancouver.

When it first opened i was really excited that some great young industry professionals were starting a place so close to where i live.

Since then it's been a little but up and down for me, I've had wonderful experiences and a few that were almost there but stumbled in the service area.

After my last visit i can say they have worked those issues out and then some.

My girlfriends and I started with their charcuterie plate which our waitress told us was made entirely in house even the board! It was so delicious and perfectly paired with a rose. I wouldn;t have normally eaten the two together but the maitre de who checked in on us insisted and thank god he did.

We had three main courses to share and all of them were outstanding. My only small complaint was that there wasn't more of the vegetables with our short rib dish. I mentioned this and 3 minutes later an extra plate of the vegetables arrived.

We were too full for desert this time but sorry we were the deserts are to die for!

We had cocktails to finish instead (always room for drink) and as always they were just divine.

We love you Boneta!!!

With all of the new openings in the last year it's hard to pick places to try out.
I chose Cibo because I've been to it's wine bar UVA with girlfriends and had a good time.

We started at the UVA side for a cocktail, we all ordered different and i found the selection limited. None of the drinks seemed very creative and we quickly switched back to wine.

We made our way over to the Restaurant side and i was surprised at how quiet it was. We ordered a few dishes to start as suggested by our server, and enjoyed the flavors but the dishes did seem small for the price.

Our mains or Secondi arrived and they too were on the small side. My scallops were overcooked and too salty. I love seafood and lemon (who doesn't) but the myer lemon didn't add any flavor.

We opted for desert elsewhere as the server seemed to be anxious for us to pay even though they were 3/4 empty.

Not a terrible experience, I will go back to UVA for wine and bites, but will pass on Cibo.

We walked by this place by accident once and had to make the return trip. When we did we couldn't stay long but ordered lunches to go for 4 friends. They were so delicious!

One was pulled pork with bbq sauce and it was amazing! We've been back for beers and snacks and this is a great little spot to meet with friends and hang out. Definitely recommended for a relaxed night out.

Unfortunately not worth the wait

I have been anticipating this restaurant and it's bar for almost one year now and after a few meals am sadly very let down.

The food was terrible. The Frogs legs and the quail in particular were just awful. Frog meat is so delicate and delicious on its own but the poor legs were drowned in what could only be called a sweet barbecue sauce and were cold when they arrived.

Quail is also so beautiful on it's own and one of my favorite meats. It was served in soggy batter that was also cold on arrival.

I enjoyed the room itself but it was very much like "boutique hotel anywhere" I didn't notice anything that was particularly west coast about it, but maybe that wasn't the point. The service was solid as noted and the wait staff was very professional.

My friend had a delicious martini finished with champagne and the wine choices were good.

We had a few appetizers, a share plate and a few drinks and the bill was 145 dollars before tip. In this economy for that price i would hope for outstanding, i left feeling dissapointed and hungry.
