My sister and I had seen this place over a year ago, but it was only recently that I'd finally gone to eat there. Was really quiet, but nice. Decor is tasteful and even the bathroom was nicely decorated. The woman behind the counter was really nice and took my order. My 3 year old daughter was napping when we got there, so it was nice that it was just us and she was able to lie down on the bench they had at one of the tables.
We had the ginataang baka (beef and veggies cooked in coconut with a touch of spice) and caldereta (beef and veggies in a spicey tomatoe sauce). I had ordered the garlic rice, but after explaining my allergies, we went with the steamed rice. The caldereta was good, but the the ginataang baka was utterly amazing. Even my incredibly picky daughter devoured it. The portions are fairly large, so those two things were enough for our family and another meal after.
The service was good, and I will be back!
Was trying to decide what to eat and my daughter said she wanted sushi and a sandwich. Since this was walking distance to our home and we'd never been in this particular restaurant before, decided to check it out. Originally, I had ordered the Vietnamese subs which were on the menu but we were told that they don't make those at that location. No biggie, we ordered the Lunch Box A and Lunch Box B and a veggie maki and a kappa maki. Well, we got the veggie maki which was really good, but got a tekka maki instead of kappa. I didn't bother complaining since it started getting busy and my daughter was actually eating them, so no biggie.
The lunch boxes were also really good as the tempura was still fresh-tasting and not too heavy or greasy and the teriyaki didn't overpower everything, but I had told the waitress prior to serving us that my daughter and I are allergic to shellfish and needed to have all the tempura be veggie and no prawns. Unfortunately, she brought a salad with baby shrimp in it, so I did send that back and they served us another one. I'm going to assume that since we didn't have an allergic reaction, they didn't just pick off the shrimp like some places have.
I did like the fact that she offered the smoothies to go since I had asked for them last to make sure my daughter ate her meal.
With regards to the ambience, they had two TVs by a bar area playing the game. It just seemed a little out of place and distracting for a lunchtime meal, but overall, a decent experience.
Nice place, good value

I was in downtown Vancouver with a friend, wrapping up some business and she suggested that we go to Stepho's. She was telling me there's usually a long line-up, but when we got there, we were pleasantly surprised that it was fairly clear. Just one party ahead of us, so that worked.
Our server was nice enough but didn't really do much besides give us our food and refill our waters. Didn't talk or chat us up, even though I tried to engage him... I had to keep trying to flag him down for refills on the water and juice.
We both had the roasted lamb dinner. The lamb was excellent. Meat was fall-off-the-bone tender, the salad was ok (too many white onions), converted rice lacked flavour.
I will be back for the food, NOT the service. Might be better to take out and just eat it on the beach.
My family and I were in Maple Ridge for a salmon fingerling release and saw their sign for $1 sushi on the way in, so when we were headed home, we decided to drop in.
We ordered a #12 platter to go since we had more errands to run. The server was nice and took our order while my family browsed though the colourful take-out menu. I'd forgotten to mention that I'm allergic to pork, so I went back to where the chef was preparing the food and he was really gracious and he swapped the pork gyoza for salmon maki.
The salmon they used in the maki was high quality, wild sockeye. The yam tempura roll was so refreshing and crispy. My picky sister who worked in the fishing industry and my even pickier daughter loved the sushi we got. We'll be back and will try more of the menu when time permits.
I'd been meaning to go to Kefi for a long time, so when a friend mentioned he wanted to go out for Greek, we decided to go here. I'd called ahead of time to see if reservations were needed and the girl on the other end said it was recommended, so I made them.
When we got to the restaurant, I almost laughed as we were the only ones in there and it stayed that way for over an hour. But it was nice, as we were able to talk and relax without too much interruption.
The server didn't come over until we'd been seated for a good 20 min, which I thought was a little odd since we were the only patrons there. We placed out orders, and waited. It's a good thing we had a lot to talk about since we hadn't seen each other in a while, but we waited for a very long time for our appies, much less the main course. we decided to skip dessert as we didn't want to have to have another long wait. I understand that everything is made from scratch in-house, but I think it would have been faster for me to make it myself.
Over-all, the food was solid. Nothing extra special about it, but it was well done and we enjoyed it. We had ordered dolmades and spanakopita for appies, I had the Roast Lamb and my friend had Rack of Lamb Paidakia for entrees. Basically it took almost 3 hours from the time we got there until the time we left to place orders, eat, and leave.
The only thing that kinda ruined it was the service and the slow speed. It would have been nice to have the server more interactive with us since we were the only patrons for a while, refilling drinks or giving us an update on our order since it was taking a fair amount of time. I understand it's not a fast food joint, but when you only have two patrons, the service should be better than what it was as there was nothing else competing for their time.
Went to Catus Club with some friends. It was the first time for them to go to Catus and my first time back to this particular one in eight years.
We had a large group of nine and it was a busy Saturday afternoon, but were seated fairly quickly. Our server was friendly and was attentive as the drinks were refilled in a timely order without us constantly asking, our food came in a good time and was really good. We shared tuna tataki (first time eating that for some of the people at the table) and we all ordered something Mexican, but with various changes, but the server was good and remembered who ordered what, which was quite a feat.
Even though it was busy and a bit noisy as there were at least two birthday parties going on, the ambience was on the loud side, but it was still not deafening. We had an over-all good time and now that I live in the area, I'll be back. :)
This is the second time I've been here and unless it's a private function (like a big party or wedding) and someone else is paying, I'm never darkening their doorway again. I've worked in hospitality and in customer service for years and there are some things that are inexcusable.
It was a baby shower brunch for my friend. She'd always wanted to go to Horizons, so that's why we took her there. I don't know if the server was just having a bad day or hated babies, but she was rude to our party, particularly the guest of honour. There were a few of us in that party who heard her mock our comments, gift selection, etc. I don't care about the server's personal feelings, but those comments could have waited until we were at least out of hearing range.
We waited a long time for our drinks and food, so we entertained ourselves.with the gifts, stories, and shower "games" that could be played around a table. Some other diners there joined in the fun at different points and that made it more fun for us, but not so much fun for our server.
The food was good, as always. The fruit was fresh and the waffles and pancakes were light and fluffy. A bit too sweet, but that was ok.
Next time, we're going to IHOP.
We live nearby, so my husband and I have been doing take-out and lunches here for a few years now. We usually order a vegetable dish and chicken or duck. Their vegetable dishes are excellent as they are cooked well enough, but still have a fresh, clean taste and aren't over-whelmed with sauces and salt. The egg-rolls tend to be a bit greasy for my liking, but aren't bad.
One thing I like is that they cook the meats in separate areas/pots so the cross-contamination is kept to a minimum, unlike some places that cook and prep it all in the same area. I like their duck and my husband likes their beef and tomatoes. I always find their rice over-cooked and mushy, so we don't bother ordering it anymore. Another annoyance is that they have bubble tea on their menu, but they rarely have supplies on hand to actually get bubble tea, so I've finally stopped ordering that, too.
The service isn't that great, though. If you're eating in, sometimes you're waiting a while to get the menus and have your order taken or even get the bill. It's esp bad at night. Sometimes the servers will just yell at you across the room, even if is busy, and the first thing they ask if you'd already placed your order instead of asking if you're a dine-in or take out customer.
I used to live a ten min walk from this place and I'd come here often for dates or after work with coworkers to chill. It got to the point where the staff knew me by first name (and I knew them and about their lives) and it was a great place to go for decent food at reasonable prices and a fun date. Hey, if the guy wasn't all the great, at least I could laugh about it with the staff later.
Fast forward five years. WHAT HAPPENED?!?!?! I ordered my usual Greek salad and Popeye pizza with an iced tea. I ended up sending the salad back literally over 10 times since the tomatoes tasted rotten. The pizza was practically RAW (crust not cooked properly and the spinach was half frozen). Each time we talked to the servers (there were two of them), they got ruder and abusive to the point of making us very concerned for our well-being. THEN it took almost an hour to get the bill. I ended up walking to the back, pizza in hand, demanding to see the manager and get a bill, reduced for my troubles. There was a fairly large party of us since it was a going-away party for a co-worker and none of them got the correct order, either. The manager never showed, so I wrote on the receipt that it was the WORST experience I'd ever had and neither I nor my colleagues would be back.
Since we work in the mall, we complained to other mall employees as well as our co-workers within the company. This kind of thing shouldn't happen. What a shame!
We've been here a few times and the service has always been good. We went there again tonight and ordered our usual 3pc cod dinners w/their coleslaw and fries. Since we took our 13-month old, we were wondering how it would be since it's usually busy.
Had a quick chit-chat with our server and she took our orders. Since it was an AYCE night, it was fairly busy, but we got our orders fairly quickly. I was impressed that the server asked if we'd like a kiddie plate for our daughter and when we'd mentioned that we forgot her bib, she offered one as well, which is something that's relatively new there since I've rarely since kids when we've gone in the past. The plate was a bright plastic plate and our baby had a lot of fun with it.
The food was good, as always, with the fish and chips not overtly greasy like most places and the coleslaw remains a favourite of mine since it is always made fresh and has a clean taste to it, not like a lot of places where it tastes like it was just pulled out of a jar or had been sitting on the shelf for hours. The portion size of the fish is fairly large compared to what you would get at a place in Steveston for almost half the price. Even though most people go for the fish and chips, there is a Chinese menu as well, which is decent enough to eat again.
The decor could use some up-dating as it looks as well-used, which I think is the only real drawback to this place.
Over-all a good reason why we come here often enough.
I've referred friends from the Mediterranean to this place and gotten good feedback from them because it is fabulous.
I was going there for my father-in-law's birthday, so I went on-line to check out the menu due to allergy concerns, as well as the fact that I was pregnant at the time and wasn't able to eat certain foods. I called ahead to make sure that the things I order would be made without ingredients that I was allergic to and they assured me that they would accommodate my dietary needs.
When we got there, we were informed that we would be served by two servers, one who was in training. When we placed our drink orders, I mentioned to the main server that I was allergic to oranges and she had come back, telling me that the cranberry juice came from the same hose, then proceeded to give me the list of juice that came from different taps, which I always thought was a nice touch.
The food was prepared for me without incident. I ordered the lamb and my husband ordered the rock cod, both of which were simple yet amazingly delicious.
The value for the food is amazing. There isn't a view to speak of since it's not on the water, but the interior decor is tastefully done. The biggest compliment of the evening came from my mother-in-law when she complimented the chef and the server, esp. since she has been working in high-end hospitality in Europe and Vancouver for over 30 years. I will be back again and again.
I've been to this restaurant a few times and every time I go, it seems to get better. There are little bits of humour (or at least, I find them ammusing) tucked into the quasi-traditional decor.
The servers are very friendly and polite, even with each other. We've asked for changes to the menu (I have allergies) and they have always been nice and accommodating. I like trying different items everytime we go, but I always like ordering their platters to share. The food always tastes clean and fresh.
This place is also kid friendly as we've taken our daughter a few times as well. Before even asking, the waitress actually brought a small plate and smaller plastic flatware out for our baby, so that was a nice touch. She wasn't quite old enough to eat anything, but it was still a nice gesture.
While I was pregnant, I was craving Greek food a lot and this place just so happened to be within walking distance of our house.
I was pleasantly surprised at the interior decor of the place, but that's where it ended. We were briskly asked how many in our party by a unsmiling seating hostess who was smiling before she noticed us. The table we were originally going to be seated at was not accommodating of my ample womb, so we had to ask for a different table. It wasn't too busy, so that was possible.
We placed our order of salad, souvlaki, spankakopita, and moussaka and waited. And waited. And waited. I got annoyed that some people who had been seated after us got their orders before us, even though we had ordered the same items.
When we had finally gotten our order, I was even more upset when I saw the rice (converted Uncle Ben's kind of rice). The spanakoita was soggy, my lamb was tough, the moussaka had a strange after-taste and my mouth went funny (I'm sensitive to some food preservatives) so it wasn't made from scratch, and my Greek salad had no calamata olives.
We wanted to just eat and leave. I actually wanted to send the food back, but I was so hungry by the time it came, I just ate it. It took almost as long to get the bill and to get out, but I don't think I'll be back.
After several Greek friends of mine recommended this place for authentic Greek food that won't burn a hole in your wallet, my hubby and I decided to check it out.
It's not much for looks on the outside, but the service is great and the food is delicious. The taste was very clean and fresh and the fried foods weren't soaked in oil. The lamb was perfectly done, juicy yet tender, and infused with flavour. The moussaka was amazing, and the spanakopita was light and crisp.
The server was pleasant with a sense of humour. A very enjoyable evening over-all.
I love sushi, even ones that are not authentic, so for my birthday, my friends too me to this place. I had been there before with my husband and it was a nice little lunch, so I thought this would be fun with a group. My friend had reserved seats in advance, so it was irritating when we arrived to be told we had to wait until a table was available. We ended up waiting almost an hour past our reservation time since it was a really busy night.
When we placed out orders, we asked for glasses of water. We ended up asking four people for them before one of our party got up and walked up to the desk and asked for a tray of water glasses so he could serve our table. That's when we finally got the water.
Half the food was the wrong temp (the hot food was cold and some food that was supposed to be cold was warm) and we were missing a lot of our order. When we asked a server about the missing orders, she just huffed at us and told us to just order more. So we did and ended up with significantly more food than we wanted. They have a thing for a limited amount of sashimi (which didn't taste fresh) but only half the orders came in and then we were told we could not order more, even though we had no gotten everything.
When we were done, we were told that we had to pay for the extra food. that was "waste" since the "missing" food showed up at the same time the second order of the same food was placed.
The rude service and the poor quality food are why I'd never go back to this restaurant.
First off, I LOVE Red Robin in general. But this particular restaurant has a SERIOUS problem with service. More often than nought, the food arrives cold, stuff is missing, or the food is wrong. I've been there four times with my family JUST to see if it has improved, but it hasn't. The only time I will go there now is if someone else is paying and I've got no other choice. Which has happened, with the same results.
Went there for lunch with a friend of mine and it was a decent value for the food that we got. The portions weren't huge (I didn't have to have half of it packed away like at most places) and it was nice and fresh tasting. The server was very polite and the food was fairly prompt.
The next day, I went there for dinner with my husband and it was a WHOLE other story. The server was VERY rude and abrupt and kept interrupting us, I was nearly showered with someone else's wine order, and the food tasted blah, even though it was almost the exact same order that I had placed for lunch the day before.
I haven't been back since and I'm debating if I should venture out there again....
I've been coming to this tiny little restaurant for over seven years and I've only been disappointed once. The owner and his various staff over the years have always been pleasant and fun to talk to. By now, he knows the drill as far as what I want.
The Tokyo Rolls are for sure my favourite and the Canuck Roll keeps me filled during games. Even the vegetarian selection is good and my vegan friends appreciated it when I had them over and served the veggie sushi platter.
This place isn't for those who want a delicate taste treat (read - small rolls) or who are overtly concerned about their portion intake. The rolls and sashimi are HUGE. One can get full on a single roll order. I am usually given my choice of what goes into my rolls (maybe it's because I'm a regular), so that's always a bonus for me. They use minimal vinegar and salt in their sushi rice, which I personally love.
The selection is varied enough so that someone who's allergic to shellfish, like myself, can still enjoy the food.
