Hi Genki Japanese Restaurant6680 Southoaks Crescent, Burnaby
Delicious

One of the places I go to when I'm tired of typical sushi and Izakaya joints. The home-style feeling of the dishes make it taste so much better. They have daily specials outlined on a sheet of paper and showcased at the entrance. The ambiance itself is nothing to speak about. It's a senior home so it looks like a senior's home cafeteria which means very sterile looking and clean. I highly recommend the pork katsu hayashi if its avaliable as a daily special.

Benkei Ramen1741 Robson St, Vancouver
Decent but a bit bland
Submitted Tuesday, September 9, 2008 - 2:51pm [Dine in]

Been to Benkei twice. First time I had the Shio with all toppings. The shio base had the right amount of richness and was generally good. The second time around however, I had the Miso which was very bland. Both times the noodles were decent and the extra toppings really add to the ramen however Kintaro and Motomachi do ramen better.

Great Lunch
Submitted Tuesday, September 9, 2008 - 2:39pm [Dine in]

Stopped by Kiyo for a quick lunch and it was great. I visited this place years ago for dinner and haven't been back till today. I ordered the Grilled Gindara (black cod) which was cooked to perfection and presented nicely may I add. Took a look over the entire lunch menu and everything was reasonably priced. Unlike the other reviews, I received great service and my meal came within 10 minutes which was very quick. Will definately go back to try their Kyoto-style Chirashi.

Guu with Garlic1698 Robson St, Vancouver
Incredible price, great food
Submitted Wednesday, December 7, 2005 - 1:42pm [Dine in]

Guu with Garlic is probably one of the better izakaya's in Vancouver not just because of the price (for two people, bill came to about $38 before tips and I was stuffed!) but also the service. When we entered to find no line ups but full tables, the server asked us to sit down. We waited about 15 minutes and while waiting, the server offered us some japanese gum which made the wait a lot more enjoyable. We sat at the Sushi bar and ordered two rounds which came to about eight plates. The portions are quite hefty especially for the price. After only going twice, I'm addicted to Guu with Garlic! But, expect to wait if you plan to get a seat from 6:30-7:30
