WAY too expensive for what you get!
Submitted Thursday, September 11, 2008 - 3:20pm [Dine in]

We used to go to BP all the time and have a decent meal for a fairly decent price but in the last few years, the pasta has gotten sticky, the pizza has lost half their toppings and yet the prices have skyrocketed!! Service is OK. I have heard a few bad service stories but I personally have only experienced fair to excellent service while I've been there. I won't be going back though, if I feel like going out for pizza or pasta, Romeo's is a much better value for my money!!

Other pubs are WAY better!!

A lot of people like this place and I've never known why. The few times I've been there the food is overcooked and bland. Service is OK and the atmosphere is way too dark and dreary. There are no interesting food selections, it's all burgers and chicken strips. I guess that is traditional pub fare but every other pub seems to jazz it up a bit and add some more interesting things to the menu, but not this place.

Some stuff good, but it's frustrating going there!

This is a cool little restaurant where you can sit on couches or at tables and they have quite a variety of food. The food is quite cheap and most of it that I have tried is fairly good. There is a lot of weird stuff on the menu such as pig intestine soup and stuff like that, but there is normal stuff too such as shrimp fried rice and chicken stir fry. Portions are quite big and fairly cheap. They have bubble teas and juices that are quite good too. The first problem with this place are that none of the servers speak English so unless you actually point at what you are trying to order on the menu, they don't understand and occasionally we have gotten the wrong thing. They don't clear your plates and you have to walk up to the counter if you want anything else, or your bill. We have also ordered food that didn't even come, then when we went to leave, had quite a hard time explaining that we never received it when we saw it on the bill. The second problem is that especially if you go later in the evening there are large crowds of asian students that tend to take over large parts of the restaurant and get rather loud and obnoxious, the service usually dwindles for the other patrons at that time as the servers turn all their attention to their orders as well. The place is worth a try if you want a soup or a plate of rice and the thick toast is to die for, but it is quite a frustrating trip, so don't go if you're in a hurry or want good service.

Not the best sushi....
Submitted Thursday, September 11, 2008 - 2:55pm [Dine in]

We have tried every sushi restaurant in Victoria and this is definatly not one of the best. The combonations they offer, as well as the prices are not bad and the food is not really that bad, but as far as the food goes, there are other sushi places that offer better sushi for the same or better prices. Service wasn't bad though.

Just OK

We have been here a few times and while the sushi is not bad and better than some places here in town, there are other places that are WAY better. We would go to Azuma over this place any day! The prices and food are OK, and service is quite decent compared to a lot of japanese restaurants we have been to, but it just doesn't compare to other places close by.

Just OK

I have been here a few times and it's OK. Just OK food, just OK service and just OK location. The prices are a bit high for what you get. The food and prices were better many years ago when they first opened but since then have just gone downhill. There's not many other restaurants in the neighbourhood so that's probably why it continues to be busy, but I'm not in a big hurry to go back.

Gone WAY downhill!!!!
Submitted Thursday, September 11, 2008 - 2:45pm [Dine in]

When Earls was in it's old location up on Blanshard, it was a decent place to go. food was decent, but a bit pricy still, and service was always fair to quite good. Since it moved right downtown I have been twice and what a BIG disappointment! Servers are obviously hired on their looks - have you seen the girls all try to manuver the stairs with their 6 inch heals and 3 inch skirts - and know NOTHING about the menu! We were even seated once then told to move because the hostess wasn't supposed to sit anyone there. A waitress then took our order, then proceeded to flirt with the guys at the next table for 10 mins, then return to our table to ask what we wanted!!!!!!!!!!!! The prices have gone up significantly and the portion sizes have also gone down since the move. I may eat at another Earls in the future as I used to like it and I'm sure the service and quality is still fine at other locations, but as for the Victoria location, I am done.

Consistantly good
Submitted Thursday, September 11, 2008 - 2:38pm [Dine in]

I have been going to Moxie's for years and have always had an excellent meal!! It is a great place to go with friends as the menu has something for everyone, especially at lunch. Prices a bit high but you don't mind paying it every once in a while for such a decent meal. Food quality is high and I have eaten the best steaks I have ever had at Moxie's. I deeply miss the Town and Country location but the downtown location is very sophisticated, yet inviting.

OK place with a decent view
Submitted Thursday, September 11, 2008 - 2:33pm [Dine in]

I have eaten here twice and both times it was just kinda mediocre food for quite a large price. The first time they messed my order up and they apologized but then walked away and didn't offer to rectify it. Last time the service was better but still not great, just minimal. The view is decent and sitting on the patio is neat but I don't think I'll be back, I'll spend my money where the food is better!!

Yum Yum - our favorite!!
Submitted Thursday, September 11, 2008 - 2:29pm [Dine in]

We have been going to Azuma for about 3 years now and have had great food every time!!! Everything we have had from there has been very tasty! We have tried every single sushi restaurant in Victoria and have found it to be the consistantly best, especially for the value. The service can lack from time to time, unless you get the guy, who is wonderful and I agree with the earlier poster about the girls standing up front who just talk and yawn, but if you do need anything, they will help you out without any attitude!

What a poor experience!!!!!!!!
Submitted Thursday, September 11, 2008 - 2:24pm [Dine in]

We went here for a friend's birthday celebration. There was about 20 of us and we pre-ordered the option where they bring you "unlimited quantities" of the 4 course menu you preorder. EVERYTHING we had was extremely poor. The calamari was rubbery and tasteless, the pasta's tasted like TV dinner pasta and the chicken marsala was a rubbery dry piece of chicken covered in a gray gravy like sauce. I'm sure the caesar salad sat under the heat lamp for about an hour before it was served to us because it was extremely soggy and warm! The few times we asked for more of a certain dish the servers (we had 2) acted like it was an imposition, then took quite a while to get it to us. Drinks took an incredibly long time to come to the table as well. When the bill came it was separated by person, however it was on one long bill instead of making it easier by handing out individual ones. All in all, we each paid $35 for the food, plus drinks and an already added gratuity, which brought our total up to about $60-$70 each. A HUGE waste of money!!!!! A friend phoned to complain afterwards and never received a call back from the manager so that goes to show you how much they really care about the customers!!! There are at least 20 people I know now who will NEVER go back and will warn everyone else to save their money and go somewhere better!!
