$3 cupcakes - never again!
Submitted Monday, January 19, 2009 - 4:10pm [Dine in]

These cupcakes are stale and expensive! I treated myself to 6 different cupcakes and only one of them was even slightly edible! the other 5 were extremely stale and artificial tasting. Perhaps I hit the baker on a bad day but I'm not willing to spend my $ again to find out. Store is cute and service is pretty good but I was hesitant to spend that much money on cupcakes in the first place and now that I have with a bad experience, I won't be going back.

Great service with really good food
Submitted Thursday, October 9, 2008 - 12:05pm [Dine in]

We LOVE going to Red Robin nowadays. The burgers and everything else on the menu are quite yummy, although a wee bit pricy. You do get endless fries so you can get your money's worth if you want to though. The drinks are REALLY expensive, especially for non-alcoholic ones but are really good too. We have always gone to Red Robin once in a while but lately we have been going more often because the service has just been phenomenal!!! All the servers we have had are super friendly and helpful and give great suggestions. They bring refills of your drinks without asking and ask you when you're about halfway done if you want fry refills. Service at restaurants in victoria has gone so far down in the past few years that it's nice to support restaurants like this that still offer good service.

OK for packaged sushi
Submitted Wednesday, September 17, 2008 - 5:26pm [Dine in]

Being a huge sushi fan I find it hard to love the sushi from fujiya but if you are looking for decent, quick and cheap - this is the place to go! It is always busy but they are always replenishing the food so you know it's fresh and the lineup to pay moves really fast. If you have any questions or special orders they are quick to answer or get you your food. I find they use a bit too much rice and it seems a bit chewy but the rolls are always packed with good stuff too so I just don't eat all of the rice. They make a decent, extremely cheap, sunomono salad and have several sizes of fresh miso soup. If you want to cheaply experiment with sushi to find out what you like before you spend more money to go to a fine dining sushi restaurant, this is the place to go! Great for a cheap snack too! Plus this place has a ton of japanese groceries so you can experiment with making sushi and other japanese delicacy's on your own too!

Going downhill...
Submitted Wednesday, September 17, 2008 - 5:17pm [Dine in]

This used to be one of our favorite places to go for sushi but the last few times we have been it just hasn't been great as usual. It's still good, but not nearly as tasty, or as large portions as we used to get. The service has never been great and it certainly hasn't gotten better. The tataki and sashimi used to be really really great but the last few times it has been tough. We've had items forgotten lately and certain things arrive WAY after our first plates. I'd try it again in a while in hopes that the quality goes back to normal but I think I'll go to other places - like Azuma - for a while.

Ferris' Oyster Bar & Grill536 Yates St., Victoria
Great great food, Bad bad service
Submitted Tuesday, September 16, 2008 - 2:53pm [Dine in]

My friends and I go to Ferris' often because they have great food and you get A LOT of it. Everything I have ever had from burgers, to salads, to oysters, to pasta has been fantastic! The service however, is a completely different story. Do not go here if you are in any kind of hurry because it will take them several minutes to take your drink order, several more to bring it to you, then a long, long time to get your food. After you get your food if you need anything else, you will have to track them down because once they drop off the food, they are never coming back. Not to ask how the meal is, not to ask if you need anything else, and not to clear the plates, so you'd better order everything you need while you can. This is not an isolated experience either, we have been here about 15 times in the last 3 years and it's the same every time. Sometimes the service is friendly, sometimes not, but you always wait a long time and you always feel neglected. I would like to introduce this restaurant to new people but I feel a little embarrassed taking people there because of the service. Bottom line: if you don't mind feeling ignored and are not in a hurry try this place because the food is delicious!!!!!!!!

Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic!!!!
Submitted Sunday, September 14, 2008 - 5:31pm [Dine in]

This is probably one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at. The entire staff is exceptionally friendly - which is quite rare these days at other restaurants. We had the most delightful meal, tasty fresh ingredients cooked perfectly! All the desserts are to die for as well! It is a tad pricy but the food is well worth it. The view is spectacular! Great place to go if you're not downtown and want a really really good meal!!!!

I won't go back after the way we were treated last time!
Submitted Friday, September 12, 2008 - 2:46pm [Dine in]

I've been to this place twice because I live nearby. the first time our server was polite enough but nothing special and the food did take a long time to get to us. The food was OK but nothing special. We went back again a few weeks ago for breakfast: we walked up the steps and saw the door to the restaurant was propped open with a chair as it had been the last time we were there and the outside tables were all set up because we contemplated sitting there, instead we walked inside. there were two girls behind the bar area that both looked up with nasty looks on their faces, one turned around and started to do something on the back counter, the other continued counting money and didn't say anything to us. We filed in and sat at a booth by the window. AFTER we were settled, the girl counting money looked over to us and informed us nastily that they were closed and could we please leave! The other girl started to laugh. We got up and walked out amazed that someone could have been that rude!! Why have the door propped open and the tables outside set if you're not open?! Plus, why not say something to us as soon as we walked in the door instead of giving us a dirty look and waiting until we sat down. Too bad because it's close and had decent enough food but that was just to rude for us to excuse!!

Great place to go!
Submitted Friday, September 12, 2008 - 2:27pm [Dine in]

I go at least once a week! This place is fantastic! The service is always friendly and there are lots of yummy options. They are always very nice about offering you options, like if you hesitate about getting a large wrap, they will suggest a small with a small salad or something like that. Everything I have had there has been very good and very fresh. they don't skimp on the meat or seafood which is good. It is a tad bit pricy but it's worth it for fresh ingredients and your meal usually is quite big. they are very accomodating if you don't want something in your wrap and they offer you different spicy options. Service is quite quick so even if there is a line you probably won't be waiting too long. Neat funky atmosphere too. If you have not been to Delicado's - go!!

Quite good place with up and down service
Submitted Friday, September 12, 2008 - 2:17pm [Dine in]

I have been a few times and the food has always been quite good with relatively big portions so I find it to be a decent value for the price. The first time the service was phenomenal and the waitress really went out of her way to please us, several other staff members smiled and chatted as we were paying and getting ready to leave. The second time I went, food was as decent as the first time but we had to wait quite a while to get served. the waitress this time was friendly but made several comments about getting too drunk the night before and joked around how she was a little off today. One meal was forgotten and arrived well after the others however the manager came out herself to apologize and we were offered a free dessert to make up for our inconvenience. We felt it was great that they took note of their error and compensated us and we left happy - plus the dessert was quite good!! The last time I went, food as good as ever and service just OK. Nothing was forgotten, she was friendly and helped us choose meals but she didn't come back and check on us and our plates took a while to be cleared, and the restaurant was not very busy at all. So, I would for sure go back if I was in the area and I would recommend it for the wide variety of good food that they offer, but don't go if you're in a hurry because it seems to follow the slower pace of life that occurs in Oak Bay!

Good food but bad everything else
Submitted Friday, September 12, 2008 - 2:07pm [Dine in]

We have been several times and while the food is quite tasty and very different from a lot of other places the service can leave a lot to be desired and it is quite pricy for what you get. The restaurant is generally clean but the atmosphere is quite borring and the tables can be too close together in some areas. The last few times we have gone the portions have gotten a little bit smaller and the service more rushed. The service is relatively friendly, with the exception of most of the hostesses who seem quite rude, but several times food took quite a while and things were forgotten. The servers apologized several times for mistakes and lateness, but didn't go anything to rectify it, or even bother to be more diligent in the future. I'd go again if I was with someone who really wanted to go, but it wouldn't be my first choice for value and service.

Submitted Thursday, September 11, 2008 - 4:02pm [Dine in]

This place is great! You get a variety of choices of meat and fillings wrapped up in a freshly made naan bread. You pick the level of spice and you pick the veggies and other fillings they add subway style so it really is made how YOU want it! It just tastes fresh and reasonably healthy! Price pretty good too. $10 gets you a large naanwich, pop and a side and it really fills you up! Service is really quick too!

Portion sizes are incredibly small for the huge price they charge you! Food is quite tasty, but you can get just as tasty food with bigger portions for cheaper at other places. An extremely small steak with a few veggies didn't even come close to filling me up! the chocolate cake can be eaten in about 3 spoonfulls and costs $9! Drinks good and fancy but overpriced as well. Neat atmosphere but I'll spend my money somewhere else!

Pretty good
Submitted Thursday, September 11, 2008 - 3:54pm [Dine in]

We find ourselves going to Spaghetti Factory fairly often because it really is a great deal. They bring you yummy warm bread as soon as you sit down. Service is fairly quick and friendly. Pastas not great but not bad either. Salad's decent, clam chowder is relly quite good, but the best part is the spumoni ice cream for dessert!! And you get all this, plus tea or coffee for a really decent price!! Great place to go when you are hungry because they bring the bread right away, they keep it coming if you want more, and you get a decent amount in your salad or soup, pasta and ice cream.

Submitted Thursday, September 11, 2008 - 3:49pm [Dine in]

We had heard really bad things about this place but one night a friend and I were out and saw a ad for their local menu which looked good and seemed fairly cheap. There was no one around when we first got there and thought back to the bad things we had heard, but someone seated us who was not overly friendly but not impolite either. Our server then came over and he was GREAT!!! He paid close attention to us all night and kept checking on us and our food. The restaurant wasn't very busy but the other people seemed to be getting enough attention too. The food was not outstanding but I got a decent steak and a yummy lobster tail for only $20!!!!!!! My friend got the three course meal and was quite happy with that as well. I have had better prepared steak and lobster, but not for $20, we felt is was quite good and well worth that kind of money! The rest of the menu looked quite expensive and probably not worth it but the local menu is well worth it!!

Submitted Thursday, September 11, 2008 - 3:41pm [Dine in]

Denny's used to be a great place to go for a decent cheap meal. You can still get a decent meal at Denny's, especially the breakfasts, but the prices have skyrocketed!!! Generally you have to wait at the crowded front door for at least 20 minutes, and several times we have been ignored after we've been seated too. One time a friend complained to a manager after we'd been sitting there for 20 mins with no service and he apologized and sent someone to us from the back, who was then our personal waiter for the entire meal and was super! Several times we have also had to wait up to an hour for our food as well, even when the restaurant is not all that busy. The do have decent desserts and is a good place to go in the evening for coffee and dessert at a decent price with no major waits.

Good food, shame about the service!
Submitted Thursday, September 11, 2008 - 3:37pm [Dine in]

We love Korean Garden's food! It is some of the best sushi you will ever eat and the Korean food like the noodles are phenomenal too. Service is just not good. I think the owners have changed over the last few months but service has not changed. It used to be that service was non-existant unless the owner was there, then the girls would suddenly get to work, and the owner was great, always making sure things were OK, but the last few times service has gone back to being non-existant so I'm not sure if the owner really did change or if he just hasn't been there lately so the service is gone again. Worth a try if you're looking for a good meal and good sushi, but expect to be there a while and to have to flag down a server several times if you need anything.

GREAT pizza, too bad about the location!
Submitted Thursday, September 11, 2008 - 3:33pm [Dine in]

This is some of the best pizza I have ever eaten at the best price! The variety's and toppings are great and service is relatively quick and friendly. The only problem is that it's right down on Douglas and even if you go during daylight, there is bound to be someone come right in to the restaurant to ask you to share your food. You are generally accosted again outside when leaving. Luckily they offer delivery so we have been getting our fill of their yummy pizza without having to go there!

This place is so neat and everyone is quite friendly. The food is delicious and is freshly made right there and you can taste the difference!! I like that you can recycle everything afterwards and the price is very decent considering you get quite a bit of seafood in the tacos and stuff. If you haven't been there yet - go!!

Submitted Thursday, September 11, 2008 - 3:27pm [Dine in]

I've been to the Tapa Bar a few times and some items I have had have really been outstanding and delicious, however other items have been rather disappointing. Portions are quite small as they are meant for sharing, but for the cost, you'd think you'd get a little more from some of the dishes. Service is generally fairly good but a little slow. Definatly worth trying if you've never been before as it is unique and most of it's tasty.

I have always had a very good meal at this restaurant. Some of the combinations sound weird but once you try it: it works and is very tasty! Prices are a tad high considering portions are a tiny bit small. Service is usually pretty good, even when busy, with a few exceptions. Even when it's busy you don't generally have to wait more than 10 mins. And the bathrooms are a must to be checked out!!!!
