Uncle Fatih's Pizza1685 Broadway East, Vancouver
Dry, Salty, Cheeseless Pizza
Submitted Friday, May 7, 2010 - 11:53am [Dine in]

We have heard good things about this little joint on Broadway and Commercial so we decided to try it for the first time via delivery. The person on the phone misunderstood my address and the order took 1hr and 20min to arrive. The pizzas we ordered were dry, cardboardy, salty and lacking cheese big time. Very disappointing, would not order or eat their pizza again.

We went there last night, a Saturday night a little past 6:00pm and the small restaurant was full. There was about a 20 minute wait for a seat. It was a very uncomfortable wait as there is not much space at the entrance to stand and it felt very stuffy inside the restaurant due to lack of ventilation. We lined up to order the food like a fast food restaurant. I had a lemonade in which the cashier gives you a cup and you help yourself at the fridge where they store their other canned and bottled pops and juices. The lemonade is supposedly fresh, and it did taste okay. You're allowed one free refill. From the time we arrived there until we put food in our mouths was about over an hour. We were starving by then. I had a small pulled pork sandwich which was quite tasty but only with BBQ sauce on it. My partner had the full rack of ribs which turned out to be just okay. The meat was dry, flavourless and didn't quite fall of the bone as nice, quality ribs should. I don't think we'll be returning to this location.

Flavourful!

We went to this restaurant for a late night dinner and was quite pleasantly surprised! The ambiance is nice, dark trendy wood and tealight candles. Their menu is quite different from your typical Japanese fare, the selection borders on fusion-style cuisine with deep fried cheese-stuffed crab cakes and prawn and cream cheese gyozas. I ordered the Miso Ramen expecting an ordinary bowl of Japanese noodles but it was served in a stylish rustic bowl with wooden ladle for spoon and the nicest touch was the fragrantly-marinated beef brisket on top!! Mmm... delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant and would be returning many more times!

Cold Ribs

Went there on the weekend for Valentine's as we didn't make a reservation elsewhere and Montana's doesn't take reservations anyway. We arrived before 6:00pm to make sure we get a table and even after 6 it didn't get too too busy, I guess it isn't the most romantic choice for Valentine's. Anyway, we use to really like the ribs here because they were well-marinated, tender and served at the right temperature but the last 3 times or so, the ribs were served less than warm and we were quite disappointed. This time I ordered the half rack of back ribs but they were thick, fatty and tough... very disappointing! I enjoyed my dessert, a cholate-dipped cone at Dairy Queen way more than dinner!!!
