A Go-to Spot!

I don't go out for drinks often, because its cheaper to drink at home, and besides some downtown pubs, the fare is usually pretty basic.

But one night my bf and I decided to head down and try the GBP. It always seems to be busy in the evenings, and we thought how nice would it be to have a pub within walking distance of home?

The inside is nice and simple, the carpets and booths look a little worn, but not shabby. Otherwise, I enjoy the mostly wood decor, the simple shelves behind the bar and the nice and bright room. The patio seems nice though I haven't sat outside yet.

The food has been delicious with incredible prices! I have been several times now, and have had the fish and chips, wings, quesadilla and my bf has also had the burger that was on special.
All of the food has been delicious! The fish and chips is fresh and not over battered, the tartar sauce is homemade (I think, but its tasty anyways!) and the fries are steak fries, which aren't my fave but are still good.

They have something going on at 9 every night, including Guitar Hero on Tuesday nights, and live music! The one time I have stuck around for the live music, it was nice and with a dance floor!

They have a pay pool table, and TVs with different games or fights on. The washrooms have been clean every time I go, and recently I sat with a view into the kitchen which was very clean and professional.

The beer: What a deal! The only place I know with Bowen Island brewery on tap, which I am a fan of. They also have a few other good beers on tap, and a good selection of bottled too. Its nice to not worry how much a basic pint of beer is going to cost!

I gave the food a 4 simply because I have never had a complaint, its always been super tasty and its not just "Pub" fare, its food I would specifically go to get.
The service I put as solid only because I think they may want to hire another server for the weekends, as ours seemed a little run off (but she later mentioned in conversation she had been there since 10:30 that morning, an almost 12 hour shift! Yet she was smiling and attentive and prompt).

I even dropped a reservation for 15 people at 2pm on a Saturday afternoon, which they accepted with no complaints!
Definetly a place worth going!

Aye Aye Captain!

Took my BF out for birthday dinner here. I take him out someplace "fancy", someplace special or outside our normal eat-out scope.

This time he requested seafood. Buckets of mussels and clams especially. I know he has a softspot for crab as well, so after seeing the Captain Vancouver platter on their menu, I knew I had to bring him here.

I made last minute reservations (not always needed, but I wanted to make sure that I had a nice seat. The service was excellent, prompt, friendly but casual (we came in jeans and t-shirts and did not feel underdressed despite the well dressed staff). I didn't feel like they were hanging over our meal, yet I never had to flag anyone down.

The food was fresh! Right from the ocean! I am not a fan of crab, but they prepared it in some sort of broth that was divine! Still tasted like crab but enhanced! All the seafood was like this, enhanced but without hiding or over-powering the flavours.
The mango on the salmom was alittle weird to me, but I just scraped them off and kept eating. Didn't negate the flavour.

Dessert was pecan pie and decaf coffee (we had to go to bed early that night). The pie was delicious, not too sweet like most pecan and the pastry was real pastry! Coffee was tasty, nothing special but coffee nonetheless.

The Decor was simple, but not out of taste. I didn't feel overwhelmed by fancy art, and I didn't feel like anything was out of place.

The prices were a bit above the other seafood places in Steveston, but I feel like I got that extra little bit that I was paying for. Would definetly go back again!

Decent for Price

This little place is in need of a decor update (is a little worn), but there is the typical "Japanese" paper art on the walls.

The food was much better than expected, was fresh with large portions for all you can eat. My companion and I had typical AYCE fare, including rolls, cones, miso, tempura and sunomono.

There was only the one man in the restaurant playing server and cook and sushi maker. But, the service was fast and friendly, and displayed nicely on the plate. We have eaten at several AYCE sushi places, and this food was on par with them. We live in the metrotown area, and the one we usually go to for a quick AYCE was almost done its lunch hour. So we found this little place (through Google) and decided to take a chance.

Glad I did! Seems they have cleaned up significantly since the last few reviews (a year ago). Would go again.
