Been going here for years, service is ok and the place was not very clean but the food was great. Loved the vegetarian soup broth full of ginger and yumminess, also the house fried noodles and onion pancakes were delicious. Really that's what you go for great food. As they just had a fire yesterday I don't know if that means it's the end of this Vancouver fav or if they will rebuild. My word of advice would be rebuild, clean the place up (and keep it clean) and make it more cozy. Maybe a nice warm color on the walls some art something. Will be sad if it is gone forever.
A group of us went here for dinner the other night. We walked into a warm inviting restaurant. We liked the kitchy lamps hanging from the ceiling and all of the mirrors. We ordered 6 dishes, 3 appys, naan bread and papadams in total. All the food was tasty, especially the kofta balls but I would warn that the medium heat is more like a hot in western standards. And considering we ordered 6 entrees the servings were more on the small side, we could have ordered more. We generally had a nice time, but they played the same strange song over and over and over again the entire time we were there which made us go a little batty at times. There was no real check in to see how we were doing or to ask if we needed anything more, (We were the only table there, other than the owners) but they were nice and kept our waters full.
Overall I was not wow'd but did have a pleasant time. Not to sure if I would go back when there are so many other Indian restaurants to choose from but not a bad choice in a pinch.
I love Jolly's, it is so good. The food is excellent, the service was good and the small restaurant has a great layed back ambience. I've told my friends and they have gone and agree there's some tastiness to be had their. I will go back again and agian!
Well if you are looking for the best Indian food in town don't go here go to Jolly's or one of your favorites. If you want a good buffet, go to all india sweets. I've been there twice and enjoyed it both times you can't beat $12 for dinner. We had the buffet both times and ordered their partha naan bread it was really yummy.
I know I will be back! You can't beat it for what it is.
I love sushiyama and have been going there since I moved to vancouver a couple of years ago. They have good sushi, the best Yam roll in town, and I always enjoy the bento boxs at lunch time. The owner and staff and always pleasent and it is a comfortable place to go and get some good eats.
Ok we also made the mistake of going there yesterday, it was an awful experiance, and this is the story.
We ordered the lettuce wrap (the only actually good thing), the gado gado bland but edible, my boyfriend ordered the peas and chicken he said it was ok and I ordered the vegetarian Pad thai it was aweful so bad in fact that I sent it back (now I hate having to send back food and only do if nessesary) well I have never experianced what came next. The owner came up with the pad thai in hand and asked why I didn't want it after I told him it was too sweet and overcooked he became so rude and when I asked to order something else he refused saying that I wouldn't like anything else. Now I have grown up in the service industry and know that people sometimes send back food and when they do you try and make them happy not uncomfortable leaving then thinking of just walking out! it's no way to run a business. all I know is no one I know or I will be going there agian it gets 3 large thumbs down!
This place looks like a hole in the wall for the outside and that's what it is, but ambiance has nothing to do with food. My boyfriend and I have been there a few times now and really enjoy the food. I'm a vegetarian, he's not but we both love there vegetable dumplings (there soo good!) and green onion pancake for appy's. I've tried there noodles with spinach and peanut sauce yummy and well he has there meaty dishes and we always enjoy our food. Sometimes they have lineups and other times it's pretty dead but always good food and friendly service!
this was a good place in it's day, it had amazing muffins, desserts, foods and great coffee. But the hotel that it was part of felt that more money could be made so they closed down the diamond in the rough to open a cold beer and wine shop, which sounds fine enough if you don't know the area but a place that makes it's money off of the welfare cheques each month (I'm not trying to be rude it's just the truth), well it just makes you wonder. That's the story.
Well my boyfriend loved there butter chicken he said it was the best he's had to date. So if you like butter chicken than go. If you are vegetarian like me you will find this place somewhat dissapointing, I mean it's solid enough but not outstanding. it left a bit to be desired. And the ambiance if you want to call it that is well stuck in the time the restaurant was founded the 1980's, don't get me wrong if you have a thing for light pink 80's style then this hole in the wall is perfect for you. The service was decent enough.
Went to the red sea cafe again last night for dinner. The food is soo good. My boyfriend and I had the sharing platter for 2 and shared some foul, soo much food you need to go hungry and the best foul I've had! I just love this place it's run by this sweet husband wife team and the place is so tidy and clean, I really enjoy it there it's in a weird area of town but don't let that fool you it's worth going to.
I really enjoyed my meal there. went there for he first time a couple of nights ago and was happy to have a great greek meal in this city. It was the first one there's alot of crap in this town. The whole wheat pitas, humus, greek salad, lots of vegitarian choices, and my boyfriend and friend really enjoyed the lamb shoulder and chicken. Definitly worth going to I want to go back!
Well I have yet to have a poor dessert there. The cheesecake is well the way it should be but never is. The chocolate mud cake, tiramisu yum that's all I can say. I love this cute little place and they have an amazing tea list you can keep it simple or add in a splash of your favorite liquor. This has fast become one of my favorite spots in the city.
You can't go wrong. I don't know what the person before me ate but, go back, it is worth the crazy 30-40 minute line up or get take out. Try the baked eggplant, house roll, grilled squid, awesome soy sheet rolls ect... Everything was fresh and tasty, the only thing I wasn't thrilled about was the green tea cake it was so so in my opinion but authentic according to my boyfriend and he's Japanese so. But really if you are looking for very good Japanese food and don't feel like spending alot this is the place for you. Go that's all I can say
What can I say??? When you can make better food at home what's the point. The reef in victoria is much better as they had a true caribbean chef in the kitchen although that was a good few years back, but the reef here leaves alot to be desired. Don't get me wrong the ambiance is great if you want some drinks and haven't had true caribbean food before, but if you are looking for something outstanding or authentic this is not the place for you.
